I absolutely loved NCFOM. Javier Bardem was outstanding and created one of my favorite villians of all time. His delivery of some lines had me shaking and the scene with the gas station attendant always stands out with me.
The only thing that bothered me was that we didn't see what went down with Llewelyn at the motel.
Yeah, that gas station scene was probably the most intense, horrific scene by Chigur, and he didn't even use anything other than his words to evoke terror.
I'm guessing Llewlyn was probably killed but that's just a guess.

I was so convinced that he had me yelling out "tails" when he flipped the coin.
We saw the aftermath of his demise but I really wanted to see how it went down. It sucks to think that all the forward thinking and planning that Llewelyn did the entire movie only to be dispatched so easily. All we saw was the mom blabbing and then Sheriff Bell rolling up to a crime scene. Slight let down for me.

Well, it wasn't your typical showdown that's for sure. Either the mexican gang got to him or Chigur did but in the end, I don't think it was relevant. The main point was that he was dead and how he was dispatched was not important. Again, a very unorthodox way of telling a story but that's Cormac McCarthy for you. Some of it is left to your imagination or chalk it up as one of life's mysteries as you'll never really know, much like how things pan out in news tragedies. Sometimes the media cover every facet of the crime that you are convinced who is innocent or guilty...case closed.

Did you see the same Sunshine I saw? That movie was amazing. It starts off very strong, it has a solid and engaging middle then theres a skinless freak that I choose to ignore then it has one of the most satisfying endings I've ever seen in a movie.

Hey Prime, Costco.ca will be having a $400 price reduction on the Optoma HC815 1080p between Jan 26th to Feb 8th if you're still looking for a projector. Problem is it's not on their site yet so don't know what the starting selling price will be.
I seriously need to do some projector research but am inclined to get another Optoma because I was always impressed with the old 720p.
I'd love a 1080p projector, but my next purchase is a new pair of front speakers... I'll probably stick with my BenQ w500 until the bulb dies.

Did you see the same Sunshine I saw?
I guess not
the Sunshine I saw starts off showing me a crew of whiney characters from the get go I have no reason to care for (done better in Alien and countless other movies)
Ultimately I guess it really doesn't matter because we all know they are going to die despite the script trying to drum up some suspense by having them picked off one by one.
The movie goes on to be a grade school science class lecture of what happens when you go out in the sun without sunscreen under your spacesuit, when your body stays in cold water too long, when you are exposed to space only wrapped in foil insulation, the profound effects of fire on vegitation, 90% of all dust = human skin, two is better than one except when it comes to reduced oxygen levels, even though there are no cops in space u-turns are still advised against, math class is more important than Oriental cooking class, you aren't the captain unless someone gave you the secret code for the mission objective, space zombies are bad, etc, etc, etc
Cliche ridden garbage.
I would have been happier if HAL... I mean Icarus had killed the crew herself or if they just suffered the same fate as the other cryogenic astronaut in POTA

Seriously, I understand your point about the "emptiness" but I think that's what the entire theme was based on. Sometimes in life, there are no immediate resolutions to life's problems...sometimes you gotta learn to deal with ****. Hence what made the ending so poetic is that very point...as dire as it may have been.
the exact reason we didn't need to see the mexican gunfight at the beginning of the movie just the aftermath
we were just given more time to get attached to Llewelyn and then the end shows you his fate was no different than the others in a cruel world

I think the govt should just force stores to give instant rebates on the converter boxes if they are out of money. It is silly for them to make money off this in the first place. Let stores wait to be reimbursed for them.
There is totally no need to push this back though. No matter when you do it, there are going to be 10 million people who don't have TV when you cut it off. Some will sue. Life goes on.

Sorry should have put Obama is trying to push back the move and is trying like heck to get a new bill passed.
Ugh...I'd rather it not get pushed back. Really, if you don't have it figured out by now and haven't gotten a box or a coupon, then you probably aren't going to figure it out in 6 - 12 more months anyway.
There is always going to be a % of people who don't comply and don't follow instructions no matter how simple you make them. Supposedly 6.8% of 114 million TVs aren't ready for the transition as of last month.
I'm guessing over half of them probably manage to just ignore the constant messages and just haven't messed with it yet. So at best you get that number down to 3 - 4% with a 6 - 12 month delay. Those people aren't going to magically stop ignoring the messages.
It would be much more effective if they just cutoff the signal and replaced it with a message for 30 days that says, "If you see this screen, you MUST get a converter box to watch TV. This is mandatory. Call 1800####### for information on how to get a converter box."
As long as a % of people can still see TV and watch the programs they want, they aren't going to mess with it.

Well I was bored and I bought all new HDMI 1.3a cat 2 cables and got them today from monoprice.
WOW!! My sub has just woke up. I must of had an old HDMI cable for the PS3. I played Dark Knight and the sounds coming from my sub were unreal. My Girl was outside and said she hear rumbling and wanted to know what the heck it was. Funny part was I had it to the exact setting -16 I had when I first watched it. I didnt hear these sounds the first 100 times I watched it.
Now I am going to have to rewatch a crap load of new movies.. And do some more recalibrating of my speakers and receiver.

I dont know if my old HDMI cable from the PS3 was 1.3a or not. By the sound of things probably not. I am floored at the new sounds from my Sub. I think I might have had 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 hdmi cable?? Who knows
But I am guessing 1.3a or 1.3a Cat 2 are close to the same if thats what you are asking. I looked on monoprice and noticed all there 1.3a cables were not sold out but the 1.3a Cat 2 cables were at the time I ordered. Must be the new standard

My reciever read PCM on it.. I dont honestly know. Very strange. My sub has always been solid but now its a different type of Sound. Stronger, tighter bass it really shakes the house now. So much more then before and I didnt even turn it up. I didnt change anything but the cable.

Yeah Strange I dont know. But loving it now.
This is all I could really find about it:
Standard (or “category 1”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 75Mhz, which is the equivalent of a 1080i signal.
High Speed (or “category 2”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 340Mhz, which is the highest bandwidth currently available over an HDMI cable and can successfully handle 1080p signals including those at increased color depths and/or increased refresh rates. High-Speed cables are also able to accommodate higher resolution displays, such as WQXGA cinema monitors (resolution of 2560 x 1600).
The more I read it looks like Cat 2 cables give better claity for PQ but not for AQ.. Oh well..

Possibly. When I changed from optical to HDMI, lossless, I noticed the tighter bass from the subwoofer right away.
Also when you guys calibrate, do you put the sub 10 decibels below the speakears? If I put it on the same level, it's usually too loud. But then my friends came along and started complaining that they can barely hear my sub.

Mine is 13 decibels below the speakers now it was 6 but I just had to turn it down just now because my Girl thought it was way to loud. I told here I didnt even turn it up. Something had to be wrong with the HDMI cable.
If I did the same level I think my windows will blow out.

Puhlease. Take a look at all the Blu's Warner has put out with regular Dolby Digital audio and no TrueHD. They have been the absolute worst studio when it comes to HD audio. They are only now giving almost every title TrueHD. Even the new Journey to the Center of the Earth didn't get it. In the world of technological awesomeness, if we can't hold studios to "what have you done for me lately" ... we'd never have high-def, DVD, lossless audio or any of that other wonderful stuff to begin with.
Stacked up against other studios, regardless of their faults, Warner is very spotty. And actually, I'll retract my first response to you and correct myself, saying the video quality suffers along with the audio.
They've DNR'd a few too many movies a bit too much, to the point where they're really stripping fine detail away from movies for the sake of eliminating a little bit of grain. I'm at the point now where I can recognize this (even though I still can't seem to recognize edge enhancement), and it's very unfortunate when the studio does this....and it's pulled New Line Cinema flicks into the mix with its care of those titles, as well.
And no lossless audio on every title at this point is just ridiculous. Seriously, what the hell are we paying so much money for then? And it's even more astounding that it's on new releases, not just a few catalog titles here and there.
So, Warner's made some good moves, put some good titles out there early and often, but a high-def God?

Well first of all I made the "Warner is a god" comment as a joke since literally 1 day ago, this thread was talking about how the high def war had ended only a year ago.
But with that being said the Matrix trilogy, 300, 2 Batman Movies, Blade Runner, I Am Legend, 2001 A Space Odyssey, an entire Harry Potter series says alot for a studio that is considered "average". Don't get me wrong when they release "Rest Stop: Don't Look Back" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" they may not be putting their best foot forward. But when a release actually matters to them and they know it will be a big deal and a high def must-buy they bring their A-game. Will it have the exact specs that will start up a high def thread bonerfest....that I don't know. But the quality will be there regardless of codecs or formats.
So maybe they had somewhat of a weak 08, I won't deny that. But before 08 they along with Disney were viewed as one of the top studios in this whole format war. Warner made without a doubt that absolute biggest move in 08 of any high def studio. Since making the change earlier this year it's been very much a catchup year for them. They've done a bit of double dipping they really haven't released anything amazing as a studio outside of Batman, and overall their lineup has been very weak in 08. Maybe it's just the kind nature in me but I'll give them a pass for one year. They made a huge switch in 08 so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It also doesn't help that while other studios were holding back quality titles in 06 and 07 because they weren't sure exactly how this whole war would pan out Warner was readying the Matrix and Blade Runner for release. Sure studios like Paramount will get a huge thumbs up this year for what they did with the Godfather....but when it's all said and done it was released at a time when no one cared.
So has Warner had a terrible 08. Yeah it's been pretty weak for them. But I'm still not ready to knock them down as many pegs as everyone else because they have without a doubt delivered some of the best high def experiences I have had during this entire run.

I price matched Ninja Gaiden II at Circuit City today as all of my local Best Buys are sold out. The supervisor was running the register and said, "I'll have to see if they have this in stock." So I figured I'm screwed. Well he walks the game and ad to customer service and yells back at me that the girl would help me there. By the time I walk over, she has already processed the price match AND I got money off (I'm assuming it was their price match guarantee or something) so I got the game for $8.65 out the door!

I have yet to play a movie that i have downloaded. Apparnetly, they have it so that SD downloads start up pretty much right away. I think HD movies still take a few minutes to buffer at least before starting.
People love to talk up downloads and how it will crush and make BD obsolete and is the best thing ever. Those same people forget that less than 50% of the US has a high speed connection that would even support digital downloads.
Remember, this is the same country that can't get 7 million+ people to buy a converter box for their old ass TV. There are many more people that are technically unadvanced than everyone thinks.

Watched American Psycho for the first time last night. Sigh....what a waste of two hours. This movie was stupid. I guess I just didn't get it and need movies that spell things out clearly for me. I will avoid spoilers, but suffice to say I'm more than confused, but so confused that I don't care.
That's how I felt the first time I watched it... perhaps I'll give it another chance as it was a while ago that I saw it.
I've never really understood the cult following of the movie.

Yeah I think its more of a problem when it comes to Polk.
This is the best way to desribe it from another site:
What it refers to is the "sound" of each speaker. Speakers, more than any other piece of equipment, sound different from one another. You want your surround system to have a cohesive and consistent sound. For example, in particular, you don't want your front left and right speakers to have a distinct sound, and then the center channel to sound different. Vocals, as they move from one speaker to another as the actor moves across the stage would sound very odd as a result. Timbre matching, therefore, generally refers to matching the sound of each speaker. That's why it is wise to buy all your speakers from the same manufacturer, providing they have been matched together as a system

So the drywaller showed up to do a quote and I could barely breathe from the booze stench coming off his breath and clothes... he rambled something about $6000 to drywall walls and ceilings. I just got a Wii and was wondering about those 4-1 switchers like in this link:http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7080191
To me, it looks like a simple solution instead of continually unplugging and plugging in cables.
Anybody have any experience with this brand or any type of switchers?? How is the picture quality when it comes to all outputs? What difference does an electrical plug-in switcher make over one that isn't a plug-in?

The sale prices will be minimal at first. They closed a store near me in December at I think the lowest the Blu's got was 30% off, but obviously this will be different as they need to sell everything.

If I were you I would try to hide some movies. Ive done it with CC and Tower and Virgin and was able to score some good titles pretty damn cheap

I'm patiently going to wait for the end of these deals. 10% off is crap, and really 30% off isn't all that good either, Amazon does better than 30%. I mean when they have like 2 weeks left that is when I'll go and see what I can find. I imagine all of the good movies will be gone, but I've never been shy of buying bad movies for the right price.

gaving been at a CC store that was liquidating already I will tell you even when they are at 60%+ off there will be no deals and nothing of worth

Please let me know how this TV stacks up agianst others. My wife and I are about to purchase another HDTV in the 46-52 range.
I saw a Samsung 61" DLP.....but was not totally convinced in the DLPs. Anyone here own one?
I've had the 56" Samsung DLP for 1 1/2 years and I love it. **knock on wood** I've had no problems with it yet and for the price I paid, it's just great. It's 1080p and watching Blu-Ray movies thru my PS3 are just un-frickin-believable! I know people on here rag on DLP's a lot, but for the price, size and quality, I think it's a great buy.

Does anybody have any solutions to fixing the horizontal purple or green line that appears every couple of seconds?
I just got the Cablevision HD box (yesterday) for my parents Toshiba hm95 tv and in order to get the the 1080i resolution that shows on the cable box, I need to goto input and select the proper input where the component cables (red, green, blue) are connected into... but whenever it it switches from 480i to 1080i- the purple/green lines (it's random- sometimes it's purple and sometimes its green) are always appearing back to to back.
I messed around with the settings and there seems to be no way to try to change the TV to 720p.
Anybody know what could be wrong? I really rather not call Cablevision and bother with them.

The same Panny 50" 720p is $999 here in Canada, not a good deal at all for a closing sale in the US.

Question...
My TV has a PC input which I use... I just recently got rid of my external PC speakers and just use the built in speakers that are in my monitor. So I go to watch a movie and I'm getting no sound probably because I have nothing in my PC since I have to unplug it to put it in the TV.
How can I get the sound to come out of my TV? What type of input will I need? What should I be looking for.
Thanks.

I made the plunge and bought an Onkyo 606 today :D
It made it a lot easier as I found a buyer for my Sony 720 on Friday.
I managed to get everything hooked up again... my only minor problem has been I can't connect my sat receiver via a DVI to HDMI cord anymore. Thankfully the Onkyo is much more forgiving than the Sony as I can run component and anything else and it outputs over HDMI. :)
Now for my towers...Polk RTi A5s.

As long as you used component (green, blue, red) to connect the cable box to the tv, she will be getting HD.
You can't get HD over anything other than HDMI or component cables.

so were the hdmi cables a waste of money for her?
