Just because the medium is dead doesn't make the movie or player quit working :p
A lot of those titles haven't hit BD yet, nor are they likely for a year or two.
$8 is little high considering the other sales lately, but for HDM it's still pretty damn cheaper. Especially if you consider the BD counterpart will be a minimum $20 when it arrives.
No, I agree totally. I just thought that $8 was sort of high considering the size of the market for the media and they have nothing else to do with them. At this point, anything they get from them would help offset their loss in keeping it.
Great though if you want to pick up something not on BD yet or that won't be coming for whatever reason. If it was already on BD, but I didn't own it, I would still probably pay more for the BD version.

I'm trying to watch Max Payne, but my Blockbuster didn't have it for rent.
Who here has Netflix and who has Blockbuster online?
I have Blockbuster becasue there is one 3 minutes from my house, so I can swap movies easily. However, I find it takes forever to get a new release BD movie from them.

No Country For Old Men Revisited on Blu-ray
January 23, 2009
No Country For Old Men will make a return visit to Blu-ray Disc on April 7 in a new two-disc collector's edition offered day-and-date with a new three-disc DVD version.
My best guess is the double-dip release will tie into the home video debut of Miramax's Doubt on Blu-ray. The two films not only share a publisher but also were/are nominated for Academy Awards. No Country For Old Men scored a coveted Best Picture Oscar while Doubt was just nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (two noms!) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The No Country For Old Men: Collector's Edition Blu-ray will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio at 24kHz/24-bit.
Almost all of the bonus features in this set are brand new with the exception of three ported from the previous Blu-ray Disc and DVD release. The inclusive digital copy is the first time this feature has been offered on a title by Miramax.

I tried Blockbuster online, but it took 2-3 days to get movies compared to 1 day from Netflix. In addition, they literally have 30,000 less different movies than Netflix. The in store features are what got me to sign up, but it did not make up for the poor service and poor selection for me.

someone at Avs mentioned that with the British pound at an all time low it might be worth looking at picking up titles via Amazon.co.uk
I checked on 2 titles I was interested in
Burn After Reading 25.99 on .com 20.44 on .co.uk
Shawshank 19.99 on .com 12.25 on .co.uk (not a digi book either)
= 45.98 shipped from US or 38.25 shipped from the UK
not a huge difference but there may be better deals to be found and titles that aren't available here (Almost Famous,...)
they have a pretty extensive B2GO listing (13 pgs)
might be something worth checking out

That's not bad looks like you are fairly lucky on that front. I did sign up when they first launched the service and everything that went wrong did. Over 50% of the movies I had in my queue were not currently available, I could only get 3 movies a week due to the slow service, and they often sent the wrong movie. There are few services I would ever refuse to use again, but theirs is one of them.

USA Today reported in today's Life section that Stanley Kubrick's landmark 1964 satire DR. STRANGELOVE or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb will finally make it's high-definition premiere on Blu-ray Disc, in a deluxe 45th Anniversary Special Edition on June 16.
At a suggested retail price of $39, the black-and-white classic will feature a disc loaded with extras, including:
• Documentary: "No Fighting in the War Room"
• Featurette: "Best Sellers or: Peter Sellers and Dr. Strangelove"
• Interview with former Defense secretary Robert McNamara
• "The Cold Facts" - a bonus track that offers trivia and background information on the Cold War, plus interviews with experts and analysts (including Daniel Ellsberg and former counter-terrorism chief Richard A. Clarke)
-Additional Special Content to be announced

Watched Appaloosa from Netflix last night. Actually thought it was pretty crappy. For a movie that's billed as a "character study," I thought all the characters were pretty shallow and useless.
And, let me say, I've never seen Renee Zelwegger so incredibly unattractive as she is here, and that's hard to accomplish. Aside from Cinderella Man, she just ruins a movie for me.
PQ was very good, natural skin tones, good sharpness and colors. Audio was a bit weak, at least during gunshots, as few and far between as they are. I'd say a 7/10 there.
Glad I didn't bite on Best Buy's 22.99 sale of this last week.

Watched 3 Blu's tonight. I was overal happy with the PQ/AQ of them all. The first one I watched was the Mist. 1st time ever seeing it and I enjoyed pretty much until the end. My wife and I were both like ***, but not to bad just kinda like :spawnskul at the ending. Next up was Awake. I wanted to see this for awhile not to quite sure why. It seemed interesting. Anyways this movie surprised me. It wasn't the greatest of all times, but worth a watch kinda of a cool twist. It also kind of freaks you out about having surgery. The whole being awake on the inside but not being able to move is crazy and when the dude was getting cut open i was just like damn and couldn't imagine being in that situation. The last one of the night was the classic Cars. Ive seen this movie before but tonight was the first time on blue and it overall was just awesome. Its just one of those movies that just make appreciate blu-ray movies.

You'll need to contact the Panasonic Viera Concierge service (see link)
http://www2.panasonic.com/vieraconcierge
This is how it should work... call them and they'll contact a local repair company they deal with. The tech will come out and assess the tv. You should get a call back within a week or two as to what is being done. If you haven't heard back from them in two weeks, give them a call for an update.

Yep, as posted, they will do this. I did it when I bought my TV a couple years ago. It went on sale for $200 less a couple weeks later. I took in my receipt and they took it off right away.
I suppose you could run into a store manager that doesn't want to do it, but it is their policy. Just take your receipt.

1.) For a 44 year old, her body looked STUNNING...incredibly slim and tight.
2.) They had about 3 rewarding scenes with her topless.
3.) No beaver action below.
4.) Her butt was equally hypnotizing and quite firm.
5.) Her boobs were probably about a b-cup, so not exactly my preferred size, but they did look amazing on a giant theater screen!
6.) The tattoos added a nice touch to her stripper character.
7.) Towards the end, there's a scene where she bends over and we see her thong for 10 seconds...mercy mercy me.
All in all, she looked AMAZING and highly hump worthy! :)

If she is sensitive to strippers or barbed-wire/staple gun matches, that's about the only thing in the movie that I think a woman may find intolerable.
Otherwise, it has a LOT of heart and drama.

Yeah, it seems like these actresses tend to get more provocative and take risks when the spotlight leaves 'em and they get older.
I can't think of any recent movies with Marisa where she made any sort of splash until this. Now she's up for a best supporting Oscar nom, which I think she deserves for the amount of dances she performs...you could have sworn she'd been doing it professionally for a long time.

Yeah, it seems like these actresses tend to get more provocative and take risks when the spotlight leaves 'em and they get older.
Eliza Dushku has a movie coming out where she flashes her jugs. Talk about momentous occassion.
Now all I need is Jennifer Love Hewitt to do the same so I can die in peace.

You can print out the Wal-Mart.com price ($19.86) of Groundhog Day and bring it into Best Buy to price match. That's what I plan to do.
Also, BestBuy.com has Any Given Sunday for $19.99 and they always match their online price in-store...at least in my experience.

I finally have entered the world of HD. I'm still having some issues, but I'm still digging the difference. I went with a 52" Sharp Aquos 1080p and the Star Choice DSR. I'm loving it.
I bought hdmi cables that I can't connect to my receiver (no hdmi output, just the dvi output or component & composite outputs). With the dvi output I can't friggin' get audio from any of the outputs on that same hdmi input on my tv (if any of that makes sense). Anyway, I hooked up the out-of-the-box g/b/r component cables and the regular audio cables. There has to be a better way.

buy an optical cable and run it from your reciever to your media player (blu, dvd) for audio
standard cables from sat/cable box to receiver to tv for audio
HDMI cables from video source (satellite/cable box) to tv and from media player (blu, dvd) to tv

Until the new Starchoice receivers arrive, you're stuck with optical out for sound if you use DVI.
The new ones will have HDMI... and sadly you'll have to upgrade your current 505 or 530 to continue to receiver HD. :(

DVI only outputs picture, not sound. You should run an optical cable from your Sat box to your receiver as well.

Blu-ray to Finally Visit "Sin City"
January 28, 2009
What was once planned to be released during the first few months of Buena Vista's Blu-ray Disc era will see the light of day on April 21. Frank Miller's Sin City is at long last officially coming to Blu-ray.
Dimension is making sure to take advantage of Blu-ray's storage capacity by offering both the original theatrical cut and extended unrated recut version in the same package.
Each version will be pressed onto a separate disc flanked by a total of over 8 hours of bonus features. Disc one will include the theatrical cut; the first of two new Blu-ray exclusive features, Cine-Explore; two audio commentaries and an audio track from Austin premiere.
Disc two will include the recut version; Kill 'Em Good Interactive Comic Book that retells Marv's story with you in the driver's seat; four featurettes; interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Frank Miller; Robert Rodriguez special features and "much more" which are likely comprised of extras from the last DVD edition.
On the tech specs front, Dimension is blessing Sin City with 1.85:1 1080p video, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and D-BOX Motion Code on the disc.
Check out a sneak peek of the cover art and bonus features below. The retail price has been set at $35.99 which means the on-shelf price should be around $25. I'll report back with pre-order information and a link once available.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser Coming to Blu-ray
January 27, 2009
Starz Home Entertainment is dipping into the vast Anchor Bay catalog to bring another horror classic to Blu-ray Disc.
Online retailer Amazon.com has confirmed Clive Barker's original Hellraiser is coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 21.
It is being listed as part of "The Anchor Bay Collection," a new subset of Blu-ray releases Starz appears to be lining up for 2009.
Technical specs and bonus features are unknown at this time. Starz will likely mirror the extras found on the 20th anniversary DVD edition.
Amazon is offering Hellraiser on Blu-ray for a pre-order price of $20.99. Click here to secure your copy of Hellraiser on Blu-ray.

Snow White artwork
http://www.thehdroom.com/images/bluray/large/4831.jpg
Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's off to work we go. This time our work brings you a first look at Disney's big Platinum Edition Blu-ray Disc this fall.
This cover for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, viewable by clicking through the disc details below, is likely identical to what you'll find on store shelves later this year.
Disney has yet to formally release the final cover art with full disc specs so naturally what you see is subject to change. It does fit in nicely with the Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio Platinum Edition Blu-rays, doesn't it?
Current rumors point towards an October 6 release date for Snow White on Blu-ray. More Snow White on Blu-ray information will be passed along as it is released.

animated movies are probably the best at showing the true greatness of the HD format
if you look at most any tier rankings of PQ when it comes to Blu Ray releases, animated movies lead the list
definately wait for the BD release ... and Disney even packages their classic titles with a dvd version

My 2 cents... unless you watch a lot of tv in there you can go with a lesser and less expensive tv in the bedroom.
Anyone have any thoughts on this TV? I need a new one for my bedroom.

animated movies are probably the best at showing the true greatness of the HD format
if you look at most any tier rankings of PQ when it comes to Blu Ray releases, animated movies lead the list
definately wait for the BD release ... and Disney even packages their classic titles with a dvd versionthanks

I've always been pro LCD over plasma and definitely over DLP. But now with the new LED engine, the sale, and not having to pay anything up front for it, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it. Not to mention there's no way I could touch that size with plasma or LCD, at least not with my budget. So should I do it? It will be going in our living room which is pretty big.

What is so great about that vaccuum?
Miele makes the best vacuums, think of it as the Pioneer Kuro of vacuums. This is their first upright, their canisters have lead the industry in performance and reliability. They're made in Germany and to steal from ShamWow's Vince .. "You know the Germans always make good stuff". :p
Anyways, I was looking at vacuum dealers in Canada and other Miele listings on ebay.ca, amazon.ca - the prices are about equal to here in the US so this one just stinks of a scam, I'm not going to take the chance, that's way too low of a price.

Got a question for you high-tech guys. What is the best way to use up my digital copies that I got with movies like Incredible Hulk, Dark Knight and Speed Racer? I don't want to DL them to my PC but I want to at least make use of them. I've been thinking of buying a video I-Pod (mind you I've never owned an I-pod device) or something like that so I can at least watch some movies when I'm board at waiting rooms or appointments. What do you guys think or recommend?

I would absolutely recommend getting an iPod to watch them. They take up a good bit of space though, about 1 - 1.5G each. You're going to have the file on your PC, then just sync them straight from iTunes to your iPod. You could have all three of those on your iPod or one at a time if you wanted if you don't want to take up so much space on your iPod. I highly recommend an iPod Touch. They're really coming down in price and it's such a versatile gadget. I have The Dark Knight on mine (and I've only got the 8G Touch, bought it on launch day for $300, now they're around $230 I think.). I watch it every once in a while, especially when I'm downstairs in the basement at work waiting for a job to finish or something.

I have had my Panasonic Plasma the longest here I believe. 6 years now and ZERO issue with Burn-in. I have gamed alot on it as well.
I think its a thing of the past with newer plasma's as long as you dont leave it paused for a day straight.

I agree with Grif, you really have to try to get burn-in on plasmas these days. I have a panasonic plasma, as well, and you probably will see regular "ghosting" though. Especially when you're watching something in a 2:35:1 aspect ratio or something like that.
The image will remain on the screen for a while, but shortly after you change to a full-screen viewing or let static fill the screen for a minute or so, it goes away.
Funny, I've been watching How The West Was Won lately, and when I turn the TV off, there's a ghost image of the smile-vision on the screen for a while.
One thing to note about "ghosting" also, is it can only be seen when the screen is black. When there's an image there, you can't see the "ghost" image anymore.

Yeah, no problem. I was able to put it on two of my kids' iPods as well with no issues. I thought for sure it wouldn't let me do it. But, yes, when I go to iTunes and open up Videos The Dark Knight is right there. I did have a problem with Han**** Digital Copy though, some crap about IE versions or something, I don't know what's up with that.

I'm okay with the 8GB version but I don't have much music on mine. I have around 750 songs only. I subscribe to around 10 podcasts and keep only the latest episode, a few of those are video podcasts (TRS, Diggnation, Official Lost podcast). I also have TheDarkKnight on there, my only movie. I also have about 40 apps installed and I still have about 1GB left so if that helps with what kind of space you need...do you really need all three movies on there at all times? Maybe you can get by with just one at a time. Change it up every week, have Wall-E one week, TDK the next. It's up to you though, what's the price difference between the 8GB and the 16GB?
The 360 question..not sure. I don't think so, last I heard the XBox doesn't recognize the Touch, it recognizes other iPods though, this may have changed as well so I'm not sure.

I see that on the input identifier in the top left corner, especially when I turn off the set after playing XBox360 which is over component cable. I'll still see the outline of that box afterwords and it scares the crap out of me but it does go away after a few or, like you say, if there's an image on the screen. I'm not even fully broken in yet but it sounds like it's nothing to worry about.

It's not...believe me I freak out about those things, too. I've had the TV for more than a year and I still turn it off if I pause a movie or game, even for 2 minutes. The "ghosting" is just part of owning a plasma. Newer models might even do a better job at eliminating that, but i'm not sure.

Also I would get a 10% discount off those prices. I would mainly want it for when I'm on trips or when we take vacations to the families cabin house which is very remote. Gave Rocknrolla a spin last night. It starts out a little slow for my taste but the characters are great and it picks up about 1/3 of the way through. Nice ending, good amount of action sprinkled throughout.
It's like Guy Ritchie took a mild muscle relaxer, if that makes any sense, compared to Snatch and Lock, Stock.

I have had my Panasonic Plasma the longest here I believe. 6 years now and ZERO issue with Burn-in. I have gamed alot on it as well.
I think its a thing of the past with newer plasma's as long as you dont leave it paused for a day straight.
Chris
Alright, thanks. I am picking up my TV tomorrow, and was concerned because about 70% of my time will be gaming.

Same. Still not a huge Temple of Doom fan, but for Raiders and Crusade, I will own Temple as well.

Unfortunately, at least story wise, the 2nd can be a bit of a let down. :(

Hey, I wasn't the only one... I remember many saying Vol 2 wasn't as good as Vol 1 at the time.
It's not without it's merrits, but it felt like a huge letdown after Vol 1 kicked so much ass.

I love my Harmony One.
Tonight I started to program the favorite channels option with downloaded icons from the internet... well damn does that ever look cool on the touch screen :D
I can't say enough good things about the One right now... I can only hope I can find another for $100 in the future to replace my 880 in the living room. :)

I'm about to go insane on another board I'm on trying to explain how 300 looks as intended on Blu-ray (with the added digital film grain) and how there's nothing wrong with natural film grain in virtually all other Blu-ray's. *sigh*

I think there's an obvious misconception that blu should look pristine and smooth, rather than "grainy", especially in certain red and dark scenes.

You're absolutely right about your message...but I have to say, I still hate the fact that fake grain was added to 300 for effect. I'd rather just see it as a clean picture, but again that's just my preference.

Never waste your breath on grain and DNR... it's not a battle worth fighting over.
I fully understand the artistic undertones of such flims, but like Jay, I prefer my HD to be pristine and eye popping.... whether that was the intent of the director or not.

What was cool recently was that Planet Terror (and I assume Death Proof, but I didn't buy that one) included a "clean" version of the movie. Not so much grain in this case than the added noise and reel "pops" etc to go with the feel they were trying to give the movie, but it's nice to see it, and maybe someday we'll see a "clean" version of 300.

Watched Into the Wild and Burn After Reading recently.
Into the wild was interesting enough, even if it was a little slow. I was forcing myself through the movie in the beginning, but it got good towards the middle and end. Good PQ and AQ I thought. I'd give it a solid 4 in PQ and probably a 3.5 in AQ, but only because there aren't any really big AQ moments.
Burn After Reading was what I expected it to be. Total nonsense dressed up as something more meangingful. What a crappy movie. I feel asleep 20 minutes into it and missed like 25 minutes. Had my wife explain what was going on and finished it out. Still didn't care. PQ and AQ were both good though. I'd give them both 4 and 3.5 for the same reasons as Into The Wild.
I currently have My Best Friends Girl, Saw V, and Rightous Kill in the queue for this weekend. I only expect one of those (Saw V) to be average at best.
