Technically speaking, the majority of music is "emo" because emo stands for Emotional.
I always thought that name for a Genre was stupid. But i guess it makes sense in other ways too.

Actually the other guy is right. Your being a di*k about it. It's cool that you don't care for others music tastes but you don't have to be mean about it "worst music ever" "only one good band on that list"
You remind me of a friend I have. He pushes his music on to EVERYBODY he knwos and sometimes its really good, other times not so much. If you disagree and say you don't care for it, we all of a sudden have no taste in music. Not to mention that if we try to get him to listen to something it will never happen because "he" didn't discover it.
Just chill out and hear what everyone has to say...go back to when you were 6 years old and recall what your mom told you, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all";)

The term would be 'banned'. Nevertheless, as you have the right to tell me my music taste sucks (as rude and classless as that is), I certainly have the right to correct your god awful grammar. I'm not gonna get dissed by some 15 year old wannabe punk. Sorry.

I think im the only one who put a Death Metal Band on a list. How is it Laughable when musicly it crushes all of the bands you listed. You have your tastes yes but fact is musicly its beter Of course I mean bands like Nile,Amon Amarth, and Death. But Id like to know his favorite bands cause all he has done is citicized people taste is music.
fluxcapacitorsandwich
05-17-2007, 07:47 PM
I think all Music is respectable in their own aspects, so saying that Any ONE band can crush, or is better then the other, is just a biased opinion, Of course you think its better then another band or all bands, its probably your favorite band/album, but saying its the best band overall, that's just far fetched and untrue. There's always that one band that is better then your favorite band, its a never ending cycle.
I think criticizing other people's taste in music is an ass thing do to, unless they directly asked for your opinion on it, This thread's Title says "Top 10 favorite bands" not "Top 10 Favorite bands so i can criticize them" Just be civilized and cool about it, i like this thread because i like finding out new bands that i may not have listened to before, and since i keep an open mind on just about any type of music, i have a broader range of bands i can listen to, and its always fun finding out new bands, i love music.
Daughtry? what kind of music are they? i've heard about it before, but never gave it a chance. sounds interesting enough.
My .02 cents.

I dont care...whatever the hell it is. I dont like it. Is it better than what I listen to? That's 110% bias because music taste is opinionated, not fact. The matter of fact is I dislike literally everything everyone in this thread listed. Did I post ew, ew, horrible, sucks, I would NEVER listen to that, awful music taste, etc.? No. I respect peoples' opinions.

I liked Amputechture. At first I didn't like it as much as their first two CD's but it's really grown on me alot. They are an amazing band. They already are working on a new CD due out this fall!

I'll have to check it out then, it took me awhile to get into their stuff, and i wasnt a big At the drive in fan, but they are growing on me too. I think its his vocals, really REALLY good vocals, just couldnt get into them at first. Sparta is one of my favorite bands to spawn from At the drive in.

The reason the Mars Volta get bad reviews is because most music critics don't "get" TMV so screw them. Live they are incredible and the music is great IMO.
As for Sparta, I like em, but not as much as TMV, and I think only one former ATD member is left in Sparta if I remember right, I could be wrong about that though.

do you happen to have any Human Piss Parade? I've got a stash that I mighty enjoy. Its very similar but its still got its own vibe, can definitely tell its the same guy though. I also heard his Confusion of a Raped Animal material, but it was pretty damn amateurish.

Why is that funny? I think Daughtry's awesome. Who the hell are you people to criticize me? I personally find all this death metal crap you people listed laughable. Am I commenting? No. So show some respect.
i think its funny because I find Daughtry to be a rather generic band and the man himself a terrible vocalist. thats fine that you think he's awesome because its your right to enjoy whatever the hell you want. why criticize? just my indulgent nature. its fine you find death metal to be laughable, much of it is. on the other hand, a lot of it can be really unique and original if you look hard enough as with almost any genre (some are just pure crap). you can comment all you want, and if you withhold thats your own business. as far as respect i think thats kind of laughable considering all I did was insult a guy you happen to enjoy listening to. it wasn't as if i called you a moron for listening to that soulless trash. i simply stated my opinion that you have poor taste in music. you likewise will share the same opinion of me no doubt, and i don't really care. its just the internet, and its not going to kill me.

GB sure did.
beginning of "Not a Beating Heart, Not a Baby's Cry
towards the end of "Cities, Shelled Out"
there are several others on the discography cd. granted these moments lasted from 5-10 seconds...but in a 30 second song thats a substantial amount of time.
there are also a couple of re-recorded Human Piss Parade tracks on there, as well as a track featuring live drums.

You simply stating your opinion that I have poor taste in music is unnecessary, rude and immature. The topic at hand isnt "evaluate the person below's music taste", now was it? to me Daughtry sounds like another one of those "nickelback" type bands. I'm not sure if nickelback is the band to reference, but i generally won't listen to that type of music unless its on at work and I have no other choice.

when i said his Confusion of a Raped Animal the "amateur" part was more his playing and song construction rather than production quality.
i think his playing and such are up to par for this type of music.

band would do lots of strange things on stage. front man would from time to time run around in a worm filled diaper, with a cork up his ass (to keep worms out, of course), and a cow tongue hanging from his mouth. then he'd run into the crowd and just bounce off of people.

You make it spill on the page.
So drunk on yourself, self-righteous,
The laughing stock of your own ****ing sage. (sage? does he even know what sage means? laughing stock of an "any plant or shrub belonging to the genus Salvia, of the mint family" or "a profoundly wise person; a person famed for wisdom." either way it makes no sense)

This is a mother****ing invitation
The only one you could ever need.

Just one time you got a reason,
Heard you had nothing to lose.

It must be easy to lose.
But I ain't one of those names,

The only one you could ever need.

What invalidates your point is that certainly plenty of people here are non-Spawn readers like myself. Not to mention the forums deal with other topics. Dont tell me to go anywhere. The fact is, 1) you're 15 years old. 2) Youve been here for what? 5 days?

I respect anything that people listen to, i may not like it, but i don't go around saying they have shtty taste in music, because all that is, is my opinion, and unless they directly ask for it, i won't give it to them, unless its constructive criticism, like a reason why i dont like it.

I actually like a majority of the bands you listed, i still have yet to listen to sigur ros though, but have seen that name many times before, what kind of music is it?
hmm. . . Sigur Ros is kinda hard to pin-point. it's definitely something you've never heard before as they sing in a language (created by them) loosely based on Icelandic (where they're from).
it's absolutely amazingly beautiful. soothing, dramatic, calming, poetic, overwhelming, all at the same time.
i literally held back tears at their live show in Austin a few years ago. unbelievable. listen to ( ) and Takk . . .
all their albums are great though.

You listed the lyrics to LoG's worst song. All of their other stuff is more like this:
Omerta-
Broken the paradigm an example must be set.
Invoke the Siren's song and sign the death warrant.
This is what has been wrought for 30 pieces of silver.
The tongues of men and angels bought by a beloved betrayer.
I am the result, what's better left unspoken.
Violence begins to mend what was broken.
You've been talking, I've been all ears.
Words meant to dwell in darkness shall never see the light of day.
Words can be broken so can bones, execute the mandate.
Mouth full of dirt your name is removed from the registry.
St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gate.
I am the result, what's better left unspoken.
Violence begins to mend what was broken.
You've been talking, I've been all ears.
Omerta.
Cheaply venal, stupidly verbose.
A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat.
Six feet under with no marker.
Keep my name from your mouth forever.
Free speech for the living, dead men tell no tales.
Your laughing finger will never point again.
Omerta.
Omerta.
Sing for me now.
Hopefully you are capable to comprehending all of these long words.
these lyrics are just as bad, if not worse than emo-crap.
I HATE THE WORLD! EVERYONE'S OUT TO GET ME! so i dress in black, ride my motorcycle, get tattoos and yell and scream to make people afraid of me.
and if the majestic "redneck" was their worse song ever, then why the hell was it their 1st song listed on their Myspace page?
at least Modest Mouse can take itself lightly (Dog Paddle) they don't have to put on a show of defiance and graduer to keep their fans happy, laughing.
but i guess fans of Lamb of God don't know how to laugh, since they're to busy calculating how to mutilate the English language. :)

Carcass (early)
Really dug Necroticism and Heartwork. The latter was one groove-heavy album. The earlier few were just too messy musically for me. But I can really get into the idea of cleaning out your insides with a Brillo pad *LOL*
wm10k
05-18-2007, 02:33 PM
well, Necroticism was the last album they released that I liked. Symphonies may be my favorite release though.
Heartwork was way too melodic and polished for me. I hated the leads, they didn't feel like they really fit in.
Impaled does a much better job at using melodic leads in a goregrind setting I think. Although I think Exhumed was the better of the carcass-clones to do the really raw splatter horror grind type ****....love those demos.
frinspar
05-18-2007, 02:40 PM
Carcass didn't transition as well as they'd wanted to. And I agree about the leads. There was some left to be desired. But overall, most of it played loud can be fairly satisfying.
Pestilence, with 'Spheres', did an alright job in transitioning, IMO. But that was also pretty much the death of them.
Kind of like what happened with Voivod. The direction that Balanger was taking them from 'Nothingface', 'Angel Rat', and especially 'The Outer Limits' caused the rift that split them for a while. Fortunately the got back together and kept on the same course more or less.

anyone here like early industrial music, back when it was minimalist, unpolished, and highly experimental.
i just found these groups, SPK, Whitehouse, Jutcliffe Jugend, NON, and i've finally heard some Foetus, and some Test Dept.
so far I really enjoy SPK, some NON, and i find the Whitehouse and Jutcliffe Jugend groups to be quite atonal and noisy, very droning, good stuff.
Not sure how I feel about Foetus, and I'm enjoying Test Dept. Reminds me very much of Einsturzende Neubauten.
also found a copy of this song called "Warm Leatherette" from the rather non-prolific group The Normal. This song predates "Flashback" from Ministry and yet the backing beat is very much the same. neat bit of useless info.

SYL reminds me too much of Fear Factory, a much better more kickass Fear Factory mind you....
I do enjoy Townsend's humor though, he doesn't seem to take his **** all that seriously.
not a big fan of Static-X.
I do like me some early (not "with sympathy" early) Ministry though.
I think I might even have some Godflesh somewhere.
Most of the industrial "metal" in my collection is more grind than metal.
wm10k
05-19-2007, 10:01 AM

dude -- awsome list! - every band is amazing :spawnorb:
Nice to see another person with similar musical taste.
thanks dudes.. I've been playin guitar for like seven years and all I wanna play is metal (with the exception of the classical guitar I've been learning on the side). If you're into heavy music, check out my band: www.myspace.com/verdictofvengeance
I apologize for the shameless plug. you guys rock!:)

I like your sound. I wasn't sure if I liked the harmonics in the beginning of Whirlwind, but after listening to the song a couple times it grew on me. I've been playing guitar for just over 15 years now. I've been in numerous bands over the years and they all fizzled out. Good luck in the future!
I just play now for personal enjoyment (and to show off when the time is appropriate :))
Rock On!
BTW, Are you Chris or Matt? And are you the lead or rhythm? Also, it's sweet that your bass player uses a 6 string.
i'm matt which makes me lead guitar. thanks for the kind words again. i've been playin for right about 7 years, but im 20. i wrote whirlwind myself after learning a children of bodom song (i think it was chokehold ****ed and loaded) and i liked the harmonics. thankfully, though i managed to do that and have it not sound anything like that song :)
