Actually, with it's foreign cume attached it's already made like 90 million in profit. :D
What I don't understand is how Superman Returns had a budget of 270 million and had hardly any good effects and Transformers had GREAT effects with a budget of 150.

Superman's inflated budget included all the re-writes and other crap from the past before they even started on the movie.

Transformers got a discount on special effects bc of Spielberg, without that dicount it would have been more like 250 million

Actually, the studios get about 53% of the box office numbers and production budget doesn't include advertising (which usually is around 30million).
So TF is still in the hole about $81million.
But they say if the box office gross meets or exeeds the production cost, the film will make a profit once it goes to DVD.

If the numbers hold, Transformers will hold the record for largest first week opening of any non-sequal movie ever.

Not to mention they probably off-set the cost by getting GMC, and other product placement deals.
No doubt GMC paid a **** load of money to get Ironhide to be a GMC truck.

Actually, worldwide, Transformers has made $246 million and since studios take on average 55% of boxoffice numbers, it won't be profitable until it hits $275, which should be by tommorow.
Right now: .55% times $246 million = $135 million - $150 = $15 million in the hole.

I dont know who got what money and how much. So I can only comment on things I know about (box office percentages).

the estimates had the world wide box at 186million this morning (figuring in an estimate for today). That's the number I went on until the actuals come out tomorrow.

What shocks me is that Spiderman 3 cost like, what, 300-500 mil? I can't remember. It was at least twice the cost of Transformers, but I think the visual effects looked better in Transformers. Of course, Spidey had bigger stars and **** and probably more production costs.

Officially, Spidey 3 cost $258 but that excludes marketing costs and since it had a worldwide campaign, people think it could've gone up to $350.
But i know what you mean, staff, cast and all the traditional non-action costs couldn't have been more than $58 million, so that means about $200 million went into FX and action.
That first Sandman shot i heard cost a lot to make and took 3 years but overall, it's the biggest waste of $200 million along with Superman Returns.

also the free marketing from eBay helped quite a bit
Its not a surprise that it made its money back so soon.

Everyone knew it would have a great first weekend, but itll have to keep that pace like a Spiderman or a Pirates movie to really rake it in.It's doing it so far, though.:)

I wonder if only filming for 2 days in front of greenscreen made the movie cheaper?
