Halo 3 submachine gun in Multi player

So I finally got Halo 3 today and just played it a bit.... I haven't played a Halo game in ages and don't have Halo 1 and 2 anymore. I'm a bit shocked about the submachine gun you start with in MP... Was that weapon also this useless in the last 2 Halo games? I don't remember it sucked this much, it takes about a full clip from up close to kill another player?! :confused:

It was about the same in Halo 2 multiplayer. It was only worth a damn when dual wielded with something else. SMG and pistol weren't bad.

Well Halo's got a lot of different guns, not to mention dual-wielding, so it wouldn't make sense to start you off with some badass gun at start.

No, you guys just suck with those weapons.

The SMG is really great indoors, you just can't treat it like an assault rifle (ie, keep shooting instead of shoot/melee). And of course it's a waste in the open field. So is the shotgun. Does the shotgun suck? Sources say no. Also, learn how to do short bursts, you'll be able to actually hit at long ranges, and will help if you time your reload right by the time you're in prime range. Compared to the Spiker, it is much better when strafing, but worse when head on.

And the assault rifle is much better at medium to close range than the BR. A bit more ubiquitous.

So remember, short bursts, pick your battles, stick to cover, and also remember that not every weapon does the same melee damage as another.

have yet to play halo 3, played 1 and 2 tho
used to love the pistol in 1, they need to have it still be an option

LOL. The pistol from Halo 1 was the best thing that ever came out of the series.

The assault rifle is pretty awesome in close range, followed up by a swift melee attack. Works like a charm.
