Does anyone know where I can find a video clip of Bo Jackson's injury that ended his career?

Reason I'm asking is because my Dad said the injury Cadillac suffered reminded him of Bo Jackson's career ending injury.

I don't think they were similar at all, Bo was a hip.

Your dad is mistaken. Bo's injury was his hip being removed from the socket. Cadillac's injury is a knee injury.

During a Raiders playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals in 1990, Jackson suffered a serious hip injury which ended his football career and seriously threatened his baseball career.

I love Wiki. It's just so, so..............so easy.

Big difference between a hip and knee.

Bo Jackson I believe suffered avascular necrosis of the femoral head on the affected hip. Basically the fracture or injury affected the artery that supplies blood to the bone there. No blood supply resulted in bone death. Thus he needed a hip replacement. That's about all I remember.

He might be thinking of Napoleon McCallum. I think his knee injury was similar to Caddy's.

Wow! Amazing post!

Are you a physician or do you have an absolutely amazing photographic memory? Excellent diagnosis, if so, doctor. :)

It was painful to see an athlete as amazing as Bo was try to hobble around the bases when he returned to baseball. Who knows what he could have done in either/both sports...

Rod Jones of the Cincinnati bengals is the one that tackled Bo on that play for those who want to know.

I agree with this. Bo Jacksons injury didn't even look out of the ordinary. The guy was pulling on his leg as he fell forward. Napoleon Mccallum's injury was just nasty! I thought the lower half of his leg was gonna twist off!

Ken Norton Jr did alot of damage to players that year. I think he had another tackle that led to a Napolean-type injury later in the season. McAllums injury was openning night, monday nite football

Thanks. Actually, I'm a Physician Assistant. I do Family Practice with Urgent Care. My memory has come in handy a time or two.

I was little (3rd grade) when Bo Jackson got injured, and I remember feeling guilty that the Bengals had injured him because I was such a big Bengals fan and my friend was a huge Bo/Raiders fan. I also remember being sad the Bengals lost.

that and the use of steroids made his hip vulnerable.. he had ripped thighs bigger than most peoples waste with hip bones the size of mine and yours.. I heard somthing somewhere about why it happened some doctor talking about it..ligaments and bones cant handle when you get a little too massive for your natural body weight..it would be like you curling a 40 pound dumbell when you weigh 170, juicing for 5 years and then curl a 95 pound dumbell, nothings grown except your muscle..bodys just not meant to get put thru that.

As I was reading this, they showed a clip of him on the Navy/Pitt game. They mentioned the injury, but didn't show it...I just thought it was weird, thats all...

If he was on the juice, then yes, it definitely contributed. There are case studies were even corticosteroids (a different type of steroid but has similar tisue effects) given to children in a single dose without any physical trauma to the hip have led to avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Here's a good summary:
