I'm going to Hawaii in a few weeks. I'll be on each island for a day or 2. I already have some plans, but I'm looking for some good advice from people who either live there or travel there regularly.

Road to Hauna (SP?) on Maui... and of course Pearl Harbour. Those were the 2 big things we did.

I'd love to go to Pearl Harbor but it would bore the hell out of the Mrs., so we are skipping that.

Which Islands will you visit? What type of activities do you enjoy? I know the Islands pretty well so let me know your priorities.

They have non active Volcanoes you can take tours in, they have sugar hills you can slide down on big tree leafs, horseback riding, black sand beaches. My only advice is to stick to the places you will be staying at and not venture into some of the places downtown or outskirts that you are not familiar with. Hawaii is a beautiful place to go but like all places it has its fair share of bad people as well and people that like to prey on unsuspecting tourist.

As for swimming with dolphins , try this...

http://www.dolphinexcursions.com/

Great tour , great guides and a neat boat.. Your on a zodiac , probably 3 feet away from the water. If your wife wants to be in a more controlled environment and swim with dolphins try sealife park.. BUT book that in advance.

Pearl Harbor, get there early the line gets bad. St Germaine Luai is good on Oahu. Souvenirs for friends and family can be got at the swap meet which is on non Hawaii home games at the stadium. Other island

Akaka and Rainbow Falls on Big Island is great
Waimea Canyon on Kauai
Haleakala Crater on Maui

Wow not going to Pearl Harbor. I mean I would think she could spare like an hour or 2 to see some history.

We went on a tour that started at Pearl, then went all over the island (and we stoped for lunch at a big mall so she may like that for shopping) and then ended at the USS Missouri.. very cool day if you can talk her into it.

Pearl Harbor might be one of those things I do alone while she sleeps in late. She hates all that historic stuff but I dig it.

The Old Lahaina Luau is the best. . it's on Maui. Any other Luau is busted compared to it.

I went at the end of July to Maui. Definitely go to Pearl Harbor, but try not to spend too much time in Honolulu. And relax as much as you can.

My wife didn't really want to go to Pearl either but once she got there and saw it all she was glad she went. Its one of those places you have to go see if you are there. Its a lot smaller than I thought but its a must see.

Honolulu: Mai-Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian for Happy Hour and sunset.

Maui: no experience, but I heard the group bike tours are suspended after recent accidents riding down the volcano.

Kauai: Fern Grotto boat ride is fun. You can also kayak up there. Snorkeling at Poipu, Helo-tour of the island. Waimea Canyon is awesome too.

If you are driving from Hilo to Kona, take the South road and see the Volcanoes (National Park). There's a pretty good lava flow right now. If you don't have too much time, go all the way to the end of the lava flow road. You can take the short hike and see the steam or the long hike (4-5 hours over old lava that is pretty tough hiking- not recommend for kids) and see the lava going into the ocean. It's a long drive, but worth it.

There's a black sand beach on the way to Kona too!

You can also take a guided tour to the observatory on top of Mauna Kea. It leaves in the afternoon from Kona. Once the sun goes down you'll see more stars than you've ever seen in your life.

Whatever you do, you're in Hawaii!! Never miss a chance to see the sunset wherever you are. Most of all, have fun!!

When your on the big island take a horseback ride in the valley. It was the best thing I did when I was there. It was AMAZING.

it's very laid back in Kauai. site see, off road tours, helicopter rides. not much of a night life unless someone knows where to party.

i'll be there for a week in november, i too could us the advice for Kauai.

It won't bore her. The USS Arizona, The Mighty Mo and The Bowfin were all moving expieriences. Please go you will regret it if it gets skipped.

I got married on Maui almost four years ago.

The black sand beaches are pretty cool on Maui.

If you're going to rent a car, it's worth it to rent a convertable. Especially if your going to drive the Road to Hauna (SP?)
The one thing I didn't do that I wish I would would have done.....surfing lessons.

You should also do everything possible to find Dog the Bounty Hunter....just to get your picture taken with him.:D

If you do drive to Hana, and do rent a convertible, I would recommend keeping the top UP, as they get over 500 inches of rain a year. One minute it is nice, and the next minute it is raining.

Same with Kauai in regards to rain. We got caught with the top down a few times.

There's also a Dolphin Encounter at the Hilton Waikoloa North of Kona. Expensive and you don't really swim with them as much as they swim with you. Worth it though, as it's very interactive.

Relax on the beach. Wife and I had our honeymoon in Hawaii (10 Days) and after we got home we realized we never relaxed. Going from 1 place to the next. Island to island, we never took the time to just relax.

Waimea Canyon on Kauai
Haleakala Crater on Maui
We did both of these when we went and they were great.

Waimea Canyon on Kauai
Bike tour after seeing the Haleakala Crater on Maui. Who ever thought it would be that cold in Hawaii?

We did the same thing. I bought a S4 McNabb at that mall. :)
