Okay I can't remember the name of a animated movie from the 80's

It's in the same style of hard core 80's trip of movies such as

Heavy Metal

and

Rock and Rule "both being movies that truly transended my scope of what an animated movie could be when I first saw them in the mid-late 80's as a kid"

Here's what I remember:
plot: Two lovers trying to out run black, robot soilder's who turn people and anything organic to stone if their shots hit you. The male tries to save his trib by confronting the soilder's only to find that they are empty, a suit of armor with a small pink something in the middle of each soilder that dies after the soilder is knocked out. Along his way he find mutant people who help him in his quest "most memrable mutant was one who had no lower half and walked on his hands" He finds the "mother brain" who's controling the soildergs "a massive Brain that you find in small pices in-side the robots" they belive the "mother brain" that he's not their eneimey and leave him be only to later learn that they were dooped and ahve to go back and fight their way to kill off the brain using a black dagger or arrow or something...I won't ruining the ending because I don't remember it ..a bit to fuzzy..

So can anyone remember what movie this was called? and hey if you liked the other two movies I meantioned know of any other's with similer traits that I might want to see or recomend?

I've seen a few others based off of underground comics ..some pretty good..others no were near as good as the material they are trying ot imitate "aka Friz the cat" but let's get a list going on these gems of the 80's and any older/newer ones that should be on this list

Lightyears is not yet out in the states...or any region that I know of. It was kick ass though.

A new special edition Fantastic Panet is coming out soon. I can't wait to get that one.

ROBOT CARNIVAL is another one I would like to see get an official US release. I have an Asian version but the subtitles are so damn badly translated it is not even funny.

Fantastic Planet I might need to rewatch it..from what I remember it's a solid sci fi story, and would be interesting as an live action movie with today's graphics, and stronger dialog and character development...only down side...it won't happen..and even if it did most of the public will see the ending coming a mile away..not because many have seen it...but because it's an old old old story that's been told a hundred times in the past

TF

TF was ..is a good animated movie considering it sprang forth from an animated show. really good voice acting and sweet animation for even todays time......but if you were to add TF's the movie you'd have to add the two He-Man/She-Ra movies "sorry I'm a twin, I'd watch He-Man and my sis would watch She-Ra..then a movie? and they were twins to? ....too cool.....

is it just me or for the most part animated movies in the mid-late 80's just had much more care, talent, variety in looks, and polish then some of the stuff you see today....I think the only place you see the same level of care in American animation is some of the first CGI movies where the animatere's used talent and care not just good looking graphics to replace a strong story, and even stronger character development/expersons in their animations....."granted this is not true of all animated moves from the 80's but for a majority of them

Most of the companies that produced those animated films in the late 70's and 80's lost tons of money on them. The outer most fringe groups in the states sadly really only appreciated animation until the Anime boom of the 90's. Still today it really is a big risk to put the love and cash behind an animated project. It is much safer and lucrative to make a low budget genera flick than to attempt to make the next animated classic. I think we will still continue to see the occasional ambitious 3D animated movie (Beowulf) but the days of hand drawn cell animation is becoming a lost art form.

Anyone else seen and like the 80's animated film Starchaser: The Legend of Orin? It is a pretty dumb story and the character design is very 80's looking but it is fun and very well animated.

That very well could be Orin. They did some good work on the ships in that film.
