View Full Version : Why the Pegwarmers?

I've always wondered as to who makes the decisions as to the amount of SP's made. Here's a good example: The TRU near me(Everett,WA) has it's newest addition to the peg warmer family(Cowboys Bledsoe, Tedi Bruschi) and that is none other than Roger Staubach.
I always wondered why they make so many of one figure they assume is going to be popular(i.e. Staubach) and they make others impossible to find which are very popular(i.e. Bo Jackson).
Why not make all regular figures equally?
Let the flaming begin.
Oh, and BTW in case you were here's the latest pegwarmer count(in my area at least):
-Bledsoe Cowboys: 2
-Tedi Bruschi: 1
-Roger Staubach: 7

Whoa! You're very lucky, I need at least 3 Bo's but shipping is murder right now.

The only Legends 3 figure I see really warming pegs at my local TRU is Dan Marino. There are at least 20 there right now. With there being at least 3 per case, it is inevitable, I guess. I wonder how many have been sold by that same store.

I have 3 different stores near me that only have Marinos left.

Marino is the peg warmer at my TRU. The newest one will be Cedric Benson.

TMP makes players based on potential national sales. The problem is, not every player is popular in every single market in the country.... Since you live in WA state, lets use an example... Shawn Alexander, how many of his SP's have you seen in your area? Not many I'd guess, but you probably would see a fair amount of Eli Mannings as compared to my area , New York, where you rarely see Eli Manning SP's, but see plenty of Shawn Alexanders. Think about it, do you think many Teddy Bruschis are laying arund the New England states? The point I'm making, is except for the rare instance, most players are regional in popularity... In a perfect world for TMP, they'd have case of Roger Staubach sent to Texas, with a sprinkling of the other players, BoJackson cases in Northern CA, with a sprinkling of the other players etc, etc... It probably isnt feasable, from a distribution standpoint to do that, otherwise, I'm sure they would.

So, do some regional trading to get the figures off the shelf and make some extra scratch for yourself! I would trade out Staubachs for just about any Legends figure or NFL 15 figure (NO ROMO), get rid of the crap and guess what? Your stores will start getting more figures, then you can scalp all you want, errrr, I mean, get the figures you need for your collection.

At my local TRU....I think I could walk in tomorrow morning and complete a set of Legends 3. The only fig that is on the shelf in abundance is Marino...and a few more Bo Jackson's compared to the rest. The only one they might have sold out of is Elway. There is still, however, a few Raiders Moss and Cowboys Bledsoe figures on the shelves.
I'll take a closer look early next week, but now that NFL 15 has been out for a few weeks here locally, the Benson figure is growing in numbers rapidly, while the rest are selling reasonably well.

The closet TRU to me still has 7 Larry Johnson's from last year on the pegs. Staubach is clogging the shelves pretty bad too.

In oregon at least 30 alexanders sat on the pegs until they went on clearance for 4.98 a pop.

Most of Legends 2 is still lingering on the pegs of the TRU in South Portland, ME. Bruschi sold well though not surprising since this is a New England store.
Just forget about getting a Red Sox figure at retail around here, unless you're lucky enough to be there when they first are put out.

I've seen one Staubach and Packers White, a couple Campbells and Eagles White, about five Elways and about ten Marinos and Jacksons. Currently there's 4 Marinos and 1 Jackson.

The only ones in multiples still on the shelves in my area is the Eagles Reggie White and that is because they are selling like hotcakes and they keep getting solid cases.

There still lots of Cowboys Bledsoe around here. They just need to clearance them now.

There's two full cases of Reggie White's that are still here.
Plus the other pegwarmers are Dan Marino, Bo Jackson, and Peyton Manning.

TRU is the main culprit here, they don't clearance out older stock like Wal-Mart.
As far as Staubach, he is often sent in an all Staubach (12) case. It's happened here alot but they are selling.

At the TRU closest to me the major pegwarmers are Elway 2, Marino, Ortiz 2, Paplebon, Josh Beckett, Andy Pettite, Drew Bledsoe (still) and Ozzy Smith (still)

The Walmart In Prince Albert, Sask, put Hull legands 4 on sale but not cheap enough. The last time i was there, thier were about 10 Hulls legands 4. 10 Naslunds ser 14, a ton of ser 15 left all pegwarming at reg price

I was lucky to find a Marino here. It looked like someone hid it behind a row of old Randy Moss. I also still have some Larry Johnsons and a couple Bledsoes too that I have to push around to see if anything is hiding behing them.

Marino lives on the pegs here, I think we got like 2 cases of them alone at TRU
