I really couldn't recommend one particular model but I'd go with either Canon, Epson or HP. Get an inkjet and it'd be best if they had seperate ink cartridges. By this I mean separate red, blue, yellow and black ink tanks. This will save money by you not having to replace the whole cartridge when only one color is out. Ink cartridges average about $10-20 for the individual colors and about $20-25 for the black(the black cartridges usually hold more ink). Inkjet printers are great for decals, as long as you follow the instructions. I was making a mistake of using a wrong setting for a while and my decals were coming out screwed up.
Finally, I wouldn't shell out more than $100-125 for a printer. You can get a very good printer within that price range, if not cheaper.
Hope that helps.

If you plan on doing decals, avoid Epson, they have a history of problems with printing decals (the ink has a tendancy to crack). I've been using a Canon for about 2 years and I have been VERY pleased with it and would suggest something from their line.

I bought an Epson 2200 ....3 yrs ago and it's great for holding my decal paper in place on a windy day.

I too would like to buy a printer specifically for printing on these gel based papers.

A couple guys on the Jomo board confirmed Canon.....Eddie20 is yours a MP180 as well?
and if you were buying today, would you consider Laser?

I've been using a Canon iP1600 for a couple of years and it's been great. I had an Epson printer and had problems with the color black cracking.

I use the Canaon ip5000 - seperate ink for all colours plus 2 blacks - about $15 -20 per cartridge
The ink lasts a long time and when it's done it doesn't print crap, it just won't print
The low warning comes up and then you can keep printing until it says it is totally ut of ink
I found it lasted long enough that when I bought the new one I still waited another month before I actually changed it ( that may vary depending on you usage)
I had an HP 930 and it had the combination colour cartridge that was very expensive and really did not last, when it got low you would get a warning and then crappy prints
that's when you knew you had to change it

That is pretty much my experience too. I've got a Canon Pixma IP4000 and it has been fantastic. The ink really does last a long time, even with the cartridges that come with the printer (some companies have been known to put small capacity tanks in the printer initially).

With Canon, It's just nice to know that when one of the colours runs out - you are not wasting the other 2 because you did not balance your printing to include all colours

I bought this one.

It looks pricey $$$ but Staples has had a rebate on it and put it on sale. Factor in their rewards program and I got it for $120.
Also because it’s photo printer they sell all the inks plus photopaper in a kit. Which best buy put on sale this week. I don’t think ink normally goes on sale, but because it is a kit they put it on sale.

Yeah, honestly, you can't go wrong with Canon. I used Canon for the longest time till I switched to an all-in-one Brother(210 model). I'm pretty satisfied with that one too.
As I mentioned, if all you're looking to do is some basic printing- ie, decals, documents and maybe some photos- I wouldn't spend more than $150 on a printer. $200 would just be the max and that's if you plan on doing a lot of home photo printing. You can get some really high-end printers that could print up to 8x10 if you plan on doing so.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I paid $300 for my printer a couple years ago and its been great for me. Its an HP psc 2410v photosmart.

I would recommend an HP printer. Just dont buy anything else HP lol.
