I recently got a letter in the mail from KIm at Spawntoys.com and it was basically a print out of the actual shipping costs I've been charged minus his boardmember shipping discount. In a nutshell, he seems to actually be going in the hole by offering the discounts. At one point, my shipping rate cut was almost as much as the total shipping bill. What I'm trying to say is, with his discount, he basically paid to ship my product which in turn, cut into his profits by at least 8-10 dollars per shipment.
Just sharing this to let everyone know that Kim is taking a whollap on shipping products. I feel like I need to share this with everyone because I've been dealing with Kim for a very long time and buy lots of products. He's an honest guy and I hope everyone will bear with him if his shipping discount is cut out. Have a good one.
Steve

He brought that up before. I'm cool with not getting a discount. I'll still order from him. Kim's the man!

Thanks Steve....I appreciate the post (and you other guys too!)......its not that Im NOT going to give shipping discounts......im just going to have to do a little EXTRA work before I ship orders to see exactly what shipping is going to cost me......I can live with eating the cost of the double box and air pillows....but I cant, also, afford to lose on shipping on top of that.....the following boardmembers are the ones that are going to be affected the most:

a) those people located on the east coast

b) those located in a rural area...there is also a rural charge that is added if you live in the middle of nowhere.....

c) BIG orders.....the way Ive always calculated shipping is $8 for the 1st figure (it used to be $6 years ago) and $1 for each additional......some of those real large orders I get (30 to 40 toys) Im losing money on shipping unless I ship it to myself (and then its about break even).....Its a double edged sword...if we use one or two BIG boxes the dim weight factor comes in....if we use 4 small to medium size boxes we use up 4 double shipping boxes (which run $.90 to $1.40 each depending on the box)...plus we have to use a buttload of airpillows.

A perfect example is an order I shipped for a boardmember today (TJ3829)

He ordered (I hope he doesnt mind)

NFL 16 case
49ers 3 pack
Rick Nash (NHL 10) qty 2

Double boxed (and we chose a big box) the shipping cost thru fed ex home delivery was $27.80...our billing system quoted (and we charged) $24....in the old days (when I was a complete ******) I would have reduced the $24.... to $16 or $18........that is what boardmembers have come to expect from us....but I just cant anymore......I hope everyone understands......the people on the west coast stand the best chance of a decent (or somewhat of) a shipping discount....

Thanks for reading....kim

I ordered two items from Kim recently and asked if I was able to get a discount. He told me it had to be 4 items or more. In all honesty, that's very nice of him to offer discounts in the first place. Being a business man myself, I know how discounts can cut into profit. I will say, that I will be doing more business with him in the future.

Ya, you are in one of those weird locations that , I guess, fed ex has to take a dog sled or chuckwagon , to get to....no matter what size your order is there is a $3.50 surcharge for a rural delivery.....do you live in a Tee-pee or something:D....only 200 miles away and shipping sucks because of the fact you live in the sticks

shipping does really suck and add a great deal to the amount we already spend on figures. but hell it surely isnt kims fault. im grateful weve been getting discounts as long as we have. it still beats trying to track down figures at the stores and coming home empty handed time after time.

Kim I appreciate your communication and will continue to place my orders through you. Of course I'm lucky because I'm near the west coast. :)

What's sad is that I only live 20 miles from a large city (in Idaho terms, 30,000 people) and right off the highway. Not even remotely in the sticks, but they say it's rural sooo there you go.

Kim does indeed rock! Spawntoys ships faster than any online store I've encountered. That's why I keep ordering. A discount is of no consequence when Items arrive fast and like they are described-ALWAYS.

The shopping cart software you use can integrate with various shippers including FedEx and quote your customers a very accurate, if not exact shipping rate. Also, instead of discounting the shipping, why not offer a percentage discount on your product to your loyal customers which would easier for everyone to understand the savings given out. Your shopping cart allows you to create coupon codes ideal for things like this.

thanks for the suggestion...but no the software DOESNT accurately integrate with fed ex or anyone else when it comes to shipping costs......you have to designate a weight for each figure. This does not take into account the weight of the box used to ship (which can add an extra 1.5 lbs or more), or the dimensions which is the BIGGY when calculating the final cost of shipping ....maybe if we didnt pack the orders so you could drop them off a 40 story building undamaged would help...but we pride ourselves on getting orders to people whether they are MOC collectors or openers with no damage. Business has been down but our damage rate this year has been unbelievable.....We have had to replace 13 toys TOTAL to date for the entire year.....consider how many toys we ship out on a yearly basis and I dare you to find another company with a better record than that........A-N-D of those 13 toys....SIX of them were part of ONE order.

A note to Kim, I would still order from spawntoys.com even without the shipping discount because of the great service and friendly atmosphere. My orders ship quickly and the merchandise is always in mint condition.
