I'm contemplating if I want to get the commeroative Prime or the masterpiece - recommendation?

Masterpiece all the way for one of the best toys ever made...I got the commemorative out of pure nostalgia. It was one of the first and few Transformers I had as a kid. I also thought it would look cool displayed with the Masterpiece, as a then and now thing.

if you can try and get the Materpiece version. IMO. The smokestacks aren't cut, ears aren't cut, and i think it's in a slightly darker shade. Looks far better that the 25th anniversary. oh yeah, i really wish i had the trailer for it too. MP-04 i believe came with the trailer but it does cost alot.:D

as far as the commeroative, you gotta own one. with all the releases, i'm sure it will be easier to find. i'll look out for you.

On the Megatron box, it says, "MP-5," presumably meaning it's the fifth piece in the Masterpieces line? If that's true, what are the other pieces made in this line? They look awesome.

Optimus Prime was the first, Ultra Magnus (white Prime repaint) was the second, Starcream the third, Optimus Prime with trailer the fourth, and I think Skywarp is the 6th.

The original Takara-Tomy MP-01 Masterpiece Optimus is virtually identical to the 2004 20th Anniversary Optimus released by Hasbro, with only cosmetic differences on the Hasbro version::
-Shorter smokestacks
-Battle-Damage paint

The 2006 DVD 20th Anniversary edition is identical to the first, but with a very lackluster and bright paintjob and a talking base that doesn't even begin to sound like Peter Cullen.

I've got the 2004 Hasbro version, with the stacks switched out for longer real metal ones. I can't even call it a toy, it's a work of art.

MP-02 Ultra Magnus (without trailer = Prime repaint)
MP-03 Starscream (blue "camouflage" color)
MP-04 Optimus Prime with trailer
MP-05 Megatron
MP-06 Skywarp

There is also a new Walmart exclusive Starscream with G1 colors.

I'm not worried about the shortstacks on Prime...I also have MP-04 with the trailer, so I'll just display that in vehicle mode and keep the 20th Prime as is.
