I want to bid on one of his jerseys, but I can't tell if they're fake or not. They look real to my untrained eye. I don't want to be duped. :(

something is up, i would say they are coming from China and they are fakes! I would not bid on them at all! Buy your jerseys from a legit source instead of saving a few bucks with ebay crap! Buy shopping legit stores or websites, you help keep the smaller store in business instead of supporting what is more than likely a fake knock off if you purchase from ebay. It should be an instant RED FLAG if you see a current jersey for a buy it now price of cheaper than what the jersey would cost at wholesale for a store! Most all jerseys have a 50% mark up so if it retails for $80, cost on the jersey is $40. Hope this helps

i hate RBK Edge, but i wouldn't mind getting a fake one for $10...
no negative feedback either
think of it this way
do you CARE if it's fake?
it's $10 man, i'd buy it assuming it's fake, it's probably better than RBK's crap anyway

dang. the crosby was the one i wanted. how do you know it's fake?

the Crosby's are fake. #1 i don't believe RBK released a size 50 in last years model. #2 Sid wasn't the Capt. last season. #3 the font and material used for the #'s are wrong. the Pens use Glacier Twill so the surface of the #'s should not be smooth,as they are shown in the pictures. also if you look at the pictures of the black jersey, notice how the Vegas gold looks like rust closeup,no way.

pensfan71 is correct on all points, and looking at his feedback it's clear he's sold numerous fakes in the past.

FAKES.
I have yet to see an "authentic" jersey sold anywhere that wasn't near the normal high price of an authentic jersey that was legit.

I own this jersey (black Crosby), size 50, purchased last month from another eBay vendor based in China. I won the bid at $26.00 plus $29.99 shipping, total $55.99.
I researched this very carefully, checked every reference photo of Crosby in last year's uni that I could find. From the colors, to the fonts, to the size ratio of every number, logo and letter and to the material used in the jersey and in the sewn-on components, it matched perfectly to the photos I studied. I'm a graphic artist, so I'm somewhat qualified to judge these things.
While I still don't believe that what I received is factory "authentic" it is as exact a "replica" as you're going to get for $56.00, and could easily be mistaken for the real thing. As others here have said, if it's that good a fake, who cares if it's not real?
The only flaws I found with the jersey are some very minor and easy repairable stitching issues.

some very minor details on the Sid jersey that many people can't catch. Not the C on crosby becuase I've seen a bunch of people do that but the NHL Shield looks odd (should have a much thicker black outline). And the tag is stitched wrong....the tags on the real authentics aren't sewn vertically on both sides.... It's sewn horiz. across the top and a small stitch on both lower corners....also the "Made in Canada" tag should be sewn through.
Here are some ref pics of the small details

All of his jerseys are fakes and you can spot them a mile away. I'd be embarrassed to wear fake jerseys in public, even if I paid $10 for them.

I have an "authentic" Calvin Johnson Lions jersey, that I got for $35. all stitched. with the logos, letters and numbers all stitched. Nothing wrong with it. correct fonts, correct colors, and correct schemes. The only thing proving its a "fake" is the price.
I, on the other hand, am not embarassed to wear it in public, and no one knows the difference

I myself just bought a Demarcus Ware so called Fake off ebay. My roommate bought the same jersey from the cowboys proshop for a ton last year at the stadium. I paid $40 dlvd and I have looked them both completely down and they are exactly identical except his is a tad longer but barely. People who look at other peoples jerseys and closely look at them and determine they are fake are G A Y. They only do this because spending $300 for a jersey is compensating for something. I would never spend that on a jersey. If it looks like the real deal Id say buy it all day long. If your getting it signed id say buy the real deal but if not buy it and wear it with pride and the people that spent hundreds on their jerseys are mad that fakes look so real and that is why they diss them so much because it is too hard to tell a fake

Oh really? Well, I can walk into Modell's tomorrow and plunk down $152 for a replica Crosby jersey complete with iron on rubber numbers with fake stitching, shoddier jersey construction, thinner, less durable material, no reinforced elbows, collar or a fight strap, in a choice of sizes designed to make everyone look like they're wearing a tent.
Or was it a better idea to plunk down $56 for a virtually indistinguishable from real "replica" with triple-layer sewn tackle twill numbers and logos in authentic fonts, sizes and weights, heavier, more durable material with reinforced elbows and collar and a fight strap, and more accurate sizing that fits properly? And the numbers look and feel like the real thing to me. Furthermore, I like this jersey's styling better than the current Edge version.
As for the fake SP? Maybe you could explain how that comparison works. A choice between a $250 authentic and a possibly fake $56 "authentic," jersey vs. an $11 real SP and oh, say, a hypothetical $5 fake SP?
I'm enough of a Penguins and Crosby fan to pay $56. Under no circumstances am I paying Reebok (the new evil empire) $250 (now $350 for the new Edge jerseys) for the privilege of supporting a team that is not my main rooting interest.

yeah, but there's a difference between a good fake and a bad fake. imo, this is closer to the bad ones. it's not as bad as some out there, but the numbers look wrong (even if someone didn't know for sure what it was - the wrong type of fabric - it would still look different. also, the gold stripes are stitched on top of the black, all of mine have the black stripe between the gold and the white stitched on top. all in all, this is a bad fake, and not worth even $50. find a better one, perhaps for a few dollars more, you'll get something that looks near-perfect

I did get a fake that looks near perfect. I paid $56 for it. Perhaps mine differs slightly from the one that you're referring to, but although I bought it from a different source, it looks the same to me. I'm not sure what you mean by the black stripe sewn over the white and gold diagonals, but if you look closely at reference pics of the real thing (search Google images, for example) you'll see that the authentic jersey has the gold (satin-like) material sewn over the black and the white.
In light of the fact that I explained how it's possible to pay $150 for a clumsy store-bought fake vs. $50 for a spot-on replica made from better quality materials, I'm not sure how you can state that it's a bad fake and not even worth $50. Seems to me you can only get closer to authentic by buying authentic - for $250 and up. Oh, and I did find an obvious flaw - the "7" on the sleeve is not the identical font to the "7" on the back. There's a very slight difference. I'll live with it - and pocket the $200 difference.
The guy I bought this jersey from has 99.8 percent positive feedback from well over 900 transactions, almost all from buyers of these fake jerseys. Perhaps you should read some of the comments. I'm sure a lot of them are hardcores like us, and they all seem to be very happy with their fakes.

you continue to buy the jerseys you want. this thread wasn't even about you. Holland wanted to know if it was fake and i'm pretty sure he got the answer he was looking for.
if you want to continue to believe that these jerseys are "virtually indistinguishable" go right ahead. if you want an inaccurate product and are willing to spend your money on such an item who am i to stop you. just realize that your doing so and don't get mad when someone calls you on it.
if that's the type of customization Modells offers than go somewhere else that can do it the right way. they are out there. as for paying retail for a jersey, i won't do it unless i have to. i'm not supporting the new Edge jerseys and the most i've paid for an authentic w/name & # was $225 and it came with a SC patch. most of the jerseys i have in my collection were under $150 sometimes under $100 all Authentic.
there are many avenues to explore,it's up to you to find them:)

It seems you haven't understood (or are not capable of comprehending) the point of my posts. First of all, the Crosby jerseys sold by Modell's are not customizations, they're part of Reebok's Premier line (what they call their replica line). Secondly, my original post was on topic; you're the one who chose (without provocation) to belittle my comments with your condescending "get what you pay for," remark, followed up by your arrogant comment about "don't get mad when someone calls you on it." I'm sorry, but I disrespectfully choose to disagree with your views from your lofty perch. I haven't been "called on" anything and while you've spent hundreds on what you claim is authentic (and you may go on beating your chest about it if you wish), I'm very happy (along with hundreds of others who've bought this jersey) with spending far less for something that is more than good enough for the price - even (and especially) if you disagree.

Interesting. There's a comics-action figure shop near me selling a red Joe Montana M&N throwback for $65. Hard to believe it's authentic, but I guess it's possible. The salesperson says it's a trade-out from an M&N distributor who collects figures, sort of a quid pro quo.

For those people who think their fakes are "high quality" and "look just like the real thing", please go get your eyes examined. If you want to wear fakes, fine, but don't try to justify your cheapness by saying they are close to the real thing because they are NOT. I wouldn't pay $300 for a real one, but I'd be embarrassed to buy a fake one. EQT's for $60 thanks to the Reebok coupon codes are close enough for me. Even those look better than the fake authentics.

What pisses me off is that eBay doesn't do a thing to get rid of the Chinese fakes on their site. Everything coming outta China is fake, I've been caught out with Abercrombie fakes and Nokia Blue Tooth headset fakes, and when I've taken it up with eBay they've turned round and said it wasn't expensive enough to give me a refund or it was outta time blah blah, and I got neg fb in retaliation when I left neg fb.
Someone needs to sue eBay for them to really pay attention.
