View Full Version : Crosby gets the "Gordie Howe" Hat Trick!
His first fight?
I never noticed he never dropped the gloves before.

I saw it.. He handled himself very well vs. Andy Ferrence. Ferrence had to go in for some "repairs" after the fight (there was blood on the ice as well.) The first punch that landed was by Crosby and Ferrence's head clearly shot back.

this is a really entertaining game. Bruins tie it after being down 4-0. This is why I love sports :)

well the game didn't turn out as I had hoped, but at least they forced overtime/shootout and got a point out of it

Wonder why it's called the Gordie Howe hat trick since Howe only accomplished the feat once in his career. You'd think there are other players who have done it alot more.

it's because gordie howe was good at scoring but also had a penchant for getting into fisticuffs... just never at the same time (except for that one time, as you mentioned)

I missed Chara and Laracque going at it twice but I did see the Ferrence, Crosby slap fest...mildly entertaining

you didn't miss much. One or two missed punches and dragging each other down to the ice in each fight. They lasted probably 8 seconds each.

The Crosby was was better then the Laraque/Chara ones combined

I got all excited when Georges and Zdeno squared off, but was disappointed when they just wrestled each other to the ice both times.
Sid had fire in his eyes from the beginning of this game. After each of the goals he was involved in there was no typical celebrating and not much talking on the bench afterwards like normal. He just looked pissed the entire game and I am not surprised that he got into this fight.

I don't know why he would be angry, he should see the Bruins games as just another opportunity to rack up points. He averages two points a game vs the Bruins. it was good that Ferrence decided to do something by fighting because he was easily to blame for two of the first 3 goals

I think what needs to be brought up is that after the first Laraque vs Chara "fight".. They each got 2 mins. for delay of game!!

The Hockey News did a bit about a month ago on the Gordie Howe hat trick. Over the last ten seasons, Shanahan leads the NHL with 9 Gordie Howe hat tricks, Iginla was second over that span with 7 I believe. I didn't know Howe only had one over the course of his career, so that is kind of strange.

Hahahaha, that reminds me of a favourite story involving an official. I can't remember who it was, but two guys dropped the gloves and circled each other for close to a minute, not a single punch was thrown. The linsemen stepped in and the two guys went to the penalty box. The referee gave each a minor penalty (delay of game), but insisted that it be announced as "2 minutes for dancing". Sure enough, both penalties were announced as two minutes for dancing.

Yeah, let the guy pound your head in while you take off your helmet...I understand that in a squared off fight...but not something like this...
