Jim Hughson

I was watching the game the other day, and I'm just throwing this out there, but does anyone feel that Jim Hughson may be one of the worst broadcasters in Pro Sports? Curious to see how other people feel.....

LOL...I don't mind Hughson. At least he doesn't make over 50 mistakes during a game like Cole. I don't even mind Maguire that much either.

Hughson is king, IMO you'd be hard pressed to find anyone better, esp in hockey, but he was damn good with the Jays as well..

My only critique is when the goalie makes a save and he always gets way too excited and goes "GRRRRRREAT SAVE KIPRUSOFF!!!!!" and he always finds it necessary to say Dion Phaneuf's full name whenever he touches the puck. I think the best hockey play by play guy is Chris Cuthbert. Letting him go is the worst decision CBC Sports has made in my lifetime.

I couldn't disagree more - Hughson is absolutely the best. He knows the game, he has a great voice, and he has a funny side as well.

Out of curiousity, who do you like?

Cool, interesting to see the support for Hughson, I think my dislike for him comes more from his segments for Sportsnet rather then his play by play commentary specifically. Its funny that Maguire came up as terrible too, he's a bit over the top but I've had a problem with him, he only does play by play for the international games though doesn't he, or is it just colour? All in all anything is better than Glenn Healy's "expert" analysis.....

Hughson, is one of the "BEST" ever, and the best right now. Cuthbert is great too. While we are talking Play by Play guys, My thoughts and prayers go out to Don Wittman and his family!

Well thats not saying much because I believe Bob Cole does 2k Sports (another reason 2k sucks). And its been Gary Thorne for 07 and 08 now... I think Thorne is great.

I wanted to watch the Sens and Wings during halftime last night of the Pats game, but as soon as I turned to the Center Ice channel and heard Bob Cole I switched to a different game. I can't stand him.

C'mon, Miller is terrible. He has the single worst goal call of anyone out there, now or ever. If he had a better goal call, I could stand him but his call ruins it for me. I really like Hughson. My favourite tandem by far is Miller and Mcguire.

Hughson,Cuthbert and Bob Cole are fine with me along with all the TSN guys (love Glen Healy,what a hoot he is some nights)..............who i can't stand is Don Whitman.

Always enjoyed seeing CBC send their no.1 guy (Bob Cole) doing Oiler games......but he seems to be receiving more and more flak for the last couple of years.

I think Hughson is awesome. He's got that kind of a voice where it just flows and is never obnoxious or insomnia curing.

I think Hughson, Doc Emerick and Ken Daniels are the best I've heard here in the US.

Nashville & Tampa have the two absolutely WORST PBP and Color guys out there. I also can't stand Buffalo's Rick Janerette (not sure if I got it right) or Pitt's Mike Lange. I effing HATE their voices.

I also don't agree with all you guys on how Maguire is so bad. I believe his intent is to explain, not demean, the audience. The casual fan may need explanation if they're just catchin on to the game. Just my two cents.

maybe it's because i'm from pittsburgh and grew up with Mike Lange and Paul Steigerwald, but i just don't get the appeal of Rick Jeanerette. can somebody explain it to me? the voice, the calls, the whole thing...i just don't get what's so special about it

Dan Dierdorf is the worst in all of sports. Why is it that terrible commentators run rampant in the NFL and NEVER get fired? I really don't understand it. I don't know anyone who likes Dierdorf. Yet he still cashes checks year after year????

Hughson/Simpson are the best. i think Craig Simpson is the best colour guy out there. i like Pierre Maguire. i had the opportunity to sit in the box suite, next to thier broadcast booth for the 2006 World Junior Championship's and he talked hockey with us for a good 1/2 hour. he was very accomodating & he knows his stuff.

Hughson is one of the best IMO...I enjoy listening to his play by play.....on the other hand...Pierre " The Plug" McGuire is by far the worst guy to listen too...how he still has a job is still a mystery to me
