haha, easy there "championship season"?? ...they could easily be the sixth seed by wednesday...I actually hope they do well because Paul is sick and I like Chandler as well, but in the west I don't see them being contenders - at least this year. They are the third best team in their division. By the way, they played the Bobcats tonight - nothing to brag about really;).

Heck, like 6 or 7 of their W's come from Minnesota, Memphia, Seattle, or the Clips. They are out of games with those cupcakes. They are average at best versus top teams. I was at the game when the Jazz drilled them 99-70 or something.

Basketball works much differently than football. You actually think the Hornets could win a 7 game series against the Spurs?? It seems in basketball you have to build to it year by year. It took the Bulls years to get past the Pistons...it took the newer Pistons years to get by the Nets...it usually comes down to experience in a series. But really, I'm on your side and I hope they make it...I just can't see it happening. Now if they were in the East...

I hope they make a playoff run too. I much prefer them to San Antonio, Phoenix, and Dallas. I don't care much for LA either. I like to see New Orleans rising, Portland coming back, and hopefully Utah getting things going again. Outside of Boston and Detroit, no team in the Eastern Conference would even sniff the playoffs if they played out west.

The Spurs always pick up the pace come play-offs. They're good in the regular season - but invincible during play-offs. For sure the Hornets will make the Play-offs, but even the top seeded teams crumble in the play-offs. Classic example is Dallas, ousted by the Warriors in Play-offs round 1.
BTW... I hate the Spurs. Any team in the NBA has my blessing for 2007-08 NBA Championships... except the Spurs. It would be sweet if Lakers win it though.

His skill set isnt that far off at all. He just doesnt try to take over a game like the other 2 do because he has the Big 3 on his side. But he makes the most of his opportunities. He is a very good defender already and continues to get better. He is so fast it is difficult to defend him. He has improved his shot a great deal. He is also a scrappy player who is 110% energy. He isnt afraid to get in the middle with big guys and rebound.
Rondo is in his 1st season as a starting PG. By next year he will be impossible to overlook. You can bank on that :)

I agree rondo is one tough dude. Been watching him since he was at Kentucky. He can cut on a dime and rebound better than most point guards. He will be a top 5 Pg in the next 2-3 years. But I posted here to say congratulations to the hornets they have made it a long way and definately have a great looking future with the team they have built and can continue to build on.

I dont think its a shock the Spurs are a top team in the West. Only ignorant people forgot about them in the West. When playoff time comes along the Spurs are going to be the favorites. They wont be heavy favorites but they are the defending champs. They have to be beaten before someone else can claim favorite in it all.
I do think though the Lakers with Kobe, Gasol, Odom and Bynum (if all are healthy) are the most talented team in the West. They will be a tough tough out if they can all be on the court.
I like what the Hornets have done this year but the playoffs are a different animal. They may get past the 1st round depending on matchup but they dont have the playoff experience to be legit contenders. I wouldnt be suprised if they made it to the conference finals I just wouldnt bet on it.
Rockets are done and wont make it past round 1. Suns and Mavs are no longer scary to play. Suns killed their team trading for Shaq. Dallas is hurting without Dirk and they traded their depth away.
Spurs, Lakers and Hornets are the top 3 teams. Golden State is a team that could upset someone in round 1 if they jack up and make enough shots over a 7 games series. They arent a legit threat though.
Utah is being overlooked right now. They made it to the conference finals last year. Deron Williams is even better this year. Boozer is still a top PF. They have the experience this year. They will be a tough out.
I think the playoffs in the West will be the most exciting we have seen in a long time.
Eastern conference on the other hand really is a 2 team race. I just dont see anyone beating the Celtics or Pistons in a 7 game series in the East. If those 2 teams meet in the Eastern Conference Finals it will be great though.
I am hoping for Celtics vs Pistons in the East and Spurs vs Lakers in the West. The old school basketball fan in me is hoping for a Celtics vs Lakers finals. Of course I would want the Celtics to win it all :)

I actually agree with everything you said. My thoughts about the playoffs exactly. Spurs, Lakers in the west with the Jazz and Hornets the only other options - but not like it would be an enormous surprise to me to see these 2 in the conference finals. As for the east, I find it hard to believe that other people think it's a 3 or 4 team race...now about that Rondo comment - maybe I gotta check this guy out a little more. I just see Paul and Deron as special type players and to compare Rondo to them surprised me.

When the Celtics and Pistons meet in the Eastern Conference finals youll see plenty of him :)
Rondo is going to be a special player. He isnt the level of Paul or Deron right now but he isnt far off. Those 2 guys are the top options on their teams. Rondo has the Big 3 around him so he doesnt try to take over games like the other 2 do.
That being said Rondo can get any shot he wants. He can go by any defender thats how fast he is. His shooting continues to improve. He isnt as good a shooter as Paul or Williams but Rondo MAY be a better driver then those 2.
Once again keep in mind this is Rondo's 1st season as a starting PG. The other 2 guys have started since they came into the league. Rondo will continue to get better. Having the big 3 around him will hold him back some scoring wise but he does everything else you need a PG to do. He does them all above average as well.
If you were a Celtics fan and watch him every game you would just love the guy. He gives 100% every game and is really a nuisance to opposing teams.
Come playoff time when more games are nationally televised fans around the world will realize Rondo is the next big time PG in the NBA.

In regards to this Rondo being on the same level as Chris Paul and Deron Williams...I think the only area Rondo even comes close to them is on the defensive end. He is not as the same level in terms of shooting/scoring ability nor does he have the ability to take over games like they do. Granted I don't watch the Celtics night in and night out but I don't think the Hornets would be close to the same team with Rondo instead of Paul nor do I think he could run the Jazz offense the way D-Will does.

Spurs are the most pathetic team ever.
I had to turn the game off last night with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter - 4 suns possesions, hack shaq, hack shaq, hack skinner and hack skinner.
How could any spurs fan be proud of that crap that they try to pass as basketball?

Simple. We can be proud because they have won four titles without ever having to employ that tactic before.
Suddenly the Suns make a trade for Shaq to "counter the Spurs" and Coach Pop decides to take a page from Don Nelson's playbook and exploit Shaq's weakness.
I'm sure the Spurs winning had nothing to do with Tony Parker turning Steve Nash and the Suns bigs into turnstiles the entire series.
To say nothing of the big time heroics the Spurs pulled off in Game 1 to set the tone for the series.
Pathetic team? Please. You'd be proud of them too if they were the team you supported day in and day out.

I don't know if I could support a team that employs that type of crap - and we've covered the other crap they do (bowen/ginobli - so yes, they have done questionable crap in the past).
I'm dead serious when I say I really don't know if I could cheer for a team like that - I don't think I could - even if it led to titles.

Thats just it though. This is the first time the Spurs ever used a tactic like Hack a Shaq to win a series, and its something that the man has been going through for years now.

I didn't want to go there since it's been discussed so many times - but you think Bowen's cheap tactics and Manu's flopping haven't contributed to a win before?
Give me a break man - they play cheap, boring basketball. End of discussion - if you want to counter and say "but they have 4 rings" - great, they've succeeded at playing cheap, boring basketball then.

Yes, I think they can. The Hornets are off to their best start in franchise history. It's going to be a special year. :)
