Last night, I won a lot off eBay. The seller is from the US and I am from Canada. Before I bid on the auction, I asked the seller several days before how much shipping would be and he quoted it at $25US. A little hefty considering it's only two Alternators but I figure since I'm getting two grails, I'll just bite the bullet. However, when I got the invoice this morning, he jacked up the shipping to $30US! I emailed him back immediately about the price hike and how he quoted $25US originally as well as showing him the original email he sent me with the $25US quote. He hasn't responded yet. His auction states payment must be received within 7 days of the auction's close. Even by snail mail, I can make that happen no problem. However, if he delays his reply or demands I pay the new shipping cost, what should I do? I honestly hope it's just an honest mistake and this doesn't drag on like that one auction where I had to wait two months to get my refund back.

I would wait and see what he says. $5 isn't that much but if he said $25 than he better make it $25.

if he ends up charging you the extra $5 just give him low stars on his feedback

I hope he makes it right for ya...good luck :)

Thanks. I know it's just $5 and isn't much compared to the entire price of the auction but it still bothers me by principle.

Hold him to his quote, it is his fault for not going to the post office and officially checking.

If he disagrees to lower it back to $25US, what should I do?

I'd pay the $30 but tell him if you find a different postage price on the box then you'll take it up with eBay/customs/paypal/something.

Yeah, if it comes out to alot less, give him neutral feedback, and 1 or no stars like someone said.

Ok got an email back from him. He said he's been quoting a lot of Canadian orders lately and got confused. Shipping is $25US. NOW. When it arrives it better be in the ballpark of $25US!

Thanks for the tips guys!

I agree. Sometimes it's just an honest mistake. Some seller actually charged for my shipping significantly lower than they actually paid to their post. Felt sorry for them.
