Roger Clemens has more credibility then the leading witness McNamee. So until they prove Clemens actually used steroids I believe him over this rat. Just the fact of this guys saying he has a 6 or 7 year old needle with Rogers DNA is a joke. Who the hell keeps crap like that? There are a lot of holes in McNamees story so far and it screams of "I needed to give a big name to get off the hook."
I could be wrong and Roger could have been a user. But right now I dont see enough proof to make me believe it.

Andy Pettitte did the same thing during his testimony. Is he a liar as well? Most people who answer questions that they dont know coming ue "Uh" and "Um" as a bridge between thoughts. It takes some thinking to drag up memories from 8 years back.

well blackmailing is more of an offense then perjury so if that true McNamee will be going to jail for a longer time. Also so what if the needle has Clemens DNA. What was in the needle that was injected? They would have to determine that as well. The whole thing stinks.

Well, this info was leaked for the most part (Pettitte deposition). Clemens should havebeen prepared with viable storylines. I could care less if I get flamed. Clemens has always been a piece before and after this whole thing. You also don't stutter regarding questions and about friendship, which wasn't even asked, he happened to bring the friendship up while avoiding the actual question while he more than likely conjured up thoughts of how to actually answer the difficult question.....

Hey bud, I don't know if Clemens is lying or not, but if you or I or anybody else had about 100 cameras in your face and a bunch of senators drilling you with tough questions about whether your telling the truth or not, I think you would be stuttering just a bit.

Yes Clemens is an a-hole. He is not one of the nicest guys in baseball. He is up there with Bonds and Arod for biggest jerks in MLB. But that doesnt mean he deserves phony stories made up against him. I also dont think he is loved across MLB. Yankees fans love him. Astros fans probably do as well. Red Sox fans respect him along with most MLB fans. He has had an amazing career and you have to respect him as the greatest living pitcher right now. But as far as being loved for being a likeable guy he isnt.

Just my opinion, but given that McNamee's a former cop, it would make sense to me that he would take steps to CYA (cover your ***) if he decided to engage in illegal activity with someone that he was worried would try to burn him to CYA their own ***. It seems like a much more likely and logical basis for keeping hard evidence than future potential blackmail.

Blackmailing requires the perpetrator to attempt to extort money/goods/services, and as far as I know McNamee has never once solicited Clemens for anything. If he had Clemens' sleazeball attorneys would have jumped all over it.
In addition to this his testimony has in many areas been corraborated by others. On the other side Clemens has no one at his defense but himself.

Clemens is about to go down as one of the biggest modern day frauds right next to McGwire and Sosa IMO.

Speak for yourself--I've been a Sox fan since the 75 World Series, and liked Clemens early on, but when he crawled out of Boston in 1996 on his overweight and out of shape belly, trailing his 41 win, 40 loss record, legacy of coming up small in big spots--Dave Stewart owned him!--badmouthing the team, and announcing that he wanted to play for a winner in Toronto, any "love" and respect for him vaporized. His amazing transformation into a multiple Cy Young award winner and dominance from the fat and out of shape complainer is curious...curious enough to say that your statement that he's "the greatest living pitcher right now" is invalid. If anyone is the greatest right now, I'd say it's either Maddux or Martinez.

I hope that Clemens finally gets what he deserves. Think about it, Clemens, Bonds, Canseco, Palmeiro, Pettitte, McGwire, Sosa, etc. The top names in the sport over the last 20 years, and more being discovered. We can't really believe that any of these numbers are really legit. There are concerns about ARod, IRod, and others. Did anyone play by the rules? We will never no for sure. How can Pete Rose be more of a "disgrace" to the game than all of these stars being dragged accross the coals in public. To me, this tarnishes the game more than Pete Rose.

1967--what a season! Of course, I only really know about by reading about it, as I was 3 at the time! As to the bitterness of Clemens leaving, I don't know if bitter is the right word...I was disappointed when he left...I hope I have matured enough not to be bitter over baseball players and their actions. As to him "frying", I really don't care--I think he's treated enough people badly and his actions, words, and decisions are coming back to haunt him. Ultimately, I am sad that the sport that I enjoy the most, and that I share with my kids, is sullied by Clemens, McNamee, Bonds, McGwire, etc. On a more positive note, pitchers and catchers reported today! Go Sox!

I didn't see it all, but the best part I did see was when it was brought up that Clemens and his attorney flew the old nanny to Houston when they knew that Congress was looking for her. They didn't give Congress her name/number until Tuesday, but then flew her to Houston over the weekend for her to "talk" to Clemens. No intimidation or tampering there. Clemens stated that he was just trying to help Congress talk to her more quickly. I think he almost laughed at his own explanation.
Both of these guys are sleazeballs....always have been. The difference is that the trainer agrees he is a sleazeball, that he never wanted to take down Clemens (you can tell this from the taped phone call), and that he told the truth and Clemens fell as a result. (He is also very mad that Clemens taped that phone call and went public.) Clemens is a bigger sleazeball (and stupid) and won't admit the truth because he thinks he is bigger than baseball and bigger than the laws of the country. Does that remind you of anybody? Can you say "I never had sex with that woman......"?

I think the major reason Roger is stumbling for words and what not is because he is trying to think before he speaks, so whatever he says wont be miscontrued(Sp?). You can tell he is trying to remember advice his attorneys have given him.
To the people who say that they believe McNamee over Clemens because of Pettitte and Knaublach agreeing with the Mitchell report doesnt mean McNamee was lying about Clemens. It is possible that McNamee was so pissed at Clemens for firing him(or for some other reason), that McNamee lied about Clemens using just to get back at him. And no other way to do that than tell the truth about 20 other people, and then falsly accuse 1 guy so it looks like he was telling the truth.
I havent made up my mind yet, but right now I believe Clemens over McNamee. I laughed when that one congressman called McNamee a Drug Dealer, because thats exactly what I have been calling him. It seemed like nobody else thought of him as that.

If he would have fessed up from the get go, like Pettite and others, it would have just drifted away. Well, until the HOF voting came around. Even then in the years in between a lot could have been unearthed in regards to the seedy underbelly to have vindicated him and others, allowing them all into the hall.
The route he decided to take is dragging him, his family, and baseball as a whole down a really bumpy path that no one can emerge from looking good.
If he were the person he claims to be he would admit what he did, and repent by initiating further reform. Instead he is allowing himself to become a pariah, and a representation of the issue as a whole. I bet Barry Bonds is happy as a clam at how this is shaking down.

I think like most people that they both meaning McNamee and Clemens are pathetics liars but where I differ from the general perception is that I don't see Pettitte as being any better because he has now changed his story also from I only took it for 2 days to now admitting that he took further doses in 2004 that he got from his dad for goodness sake. What kind of father pedals drugs to their own kid??
So while I commend Pettitte for coming clean with what he has by no means IMO does that make him an innocent by stander caught in the middle of all this.

By RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer 4 minutes ago
One of Brian McNamee's lawyers predicted that if Roger Clemens is convicted in connection with the baseball steroids scandal, he'd be pardoned by President Bush. Lawyer Richard Emery also said some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitcher's friendship with the Bush family.
Emery made the claims Thursday, a day after a congressional hearing broke down along party lines. Many Democrats were skeptical of Clemens' denials he used performance-enhancing drugs and Republicans questioned the character of McNamee, the personal trainer who made the accusations against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.
"It would be the easiest thing in the world for George W. Bush, given the corrupt proclivities of his administration, to say Roger Clemens is an American hero, Roger Clemens helped children," Emery said in a telephone interview. "It's my belief they have some reason to believe they can get a pardon."
During Wednesday's session before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Clemens repeated his denials under oath, which could lead to criminal charges if federal prosecutors conclude he made false statements or obstructed Congress.
"I'm not aware of Mr. Clemens having been charged with anything," White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto said after being told of Emery's remarks.
Emery cited Bush's decision last year to commute the 2 1/2-year prison sentence of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, his vice president's former top aide. Libby was convicted in the case of the leaked identity of a CIA operative.
During the hearing, Clemens cited his friendship with Bush's father, President George H.W. Bush, a baseball fan who regularly attends Houston Astros' games. Clemens said he was on a recent hunting trip when the elder Bush called with words of support.
"When all this happened, the former president of the United States found me in a deer blind in south Texas and expressed his concerns that this was unbelievable, and stay strong and hold your head up high," Clemens testified.
Emery said as he thought about the testimony overnight, Clemens' reference to the call from the elder Bush convinced him the questioning by Republicans was a concerted effort.
"All the pieces fell into place given his friendship, his personal friendship with the Bush family," Emery said. "They have some belief that even if he's prosecuted, he will never have to serve jail time or face a trail. This is a charade we're going through."
IRS Special Agent Jeff Novitzky attended the hearing and watched from the second row. Novitzky has been a part of the BALCO prosecution team that secured an indictment against Barry Bonds on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. Bonds testified before a grand jury in 2003 and denied that he knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.
Emery praised Clemens' lawyers, Rusty Hardin and Lanny Breuer, as knowledgeable and said the prospect of a pardon was the only explanation that allowed the pitcher to repeat his denials under oath.
"It's the only reason lawyers worth their salt would allow their client to run into the buzzsaw of Jeff Novitzky and the potential prosecution, tampering and lying to a federal official," Emery said.
Joe Householder, Clemens' spokesman, said he would attempt to reach Hardin or Breuer for comment. Republicans on the committee did not immediately return telephone calls.
Emery had harsh criticism for Republican Reps. Dan Burton of Indiana, Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, Darrell Issa of California and Christopher Shays of Connecticut. Shays called McNamee a "drug dealer" and Burton accused McNamee of telling "lie after lie after lie after lie."
"It was disgusting and despicable behavior," Emery said. "It was clear to me they were carrying someone's water."
Rep. Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat who said he believed McNamee, was concerned about the apparent Republican-Democratic divide.
"Of all the things to become partisan over, this was the wrong one," Cummings said. "What we needed to be doing was to be in search of truth. And I think that when you are truly in search of truth, we need to put the partisan shoes at the door and walk in without them."

You have a gun to your head.. . . . you are watching the hearing and you know that Chuck Knobs, Pettite, and McNamee all say that Clemens did roids & HGH. You have to choose between Clemens & McNamee based on what you know and what you see at thee hearing (as far as body language, stuttering, yelling at the congressmen, etc.). The person holding the gun knows who's telling the truth and if you don't guess correctly he's offing you. Who do you choose.
