I recently acquired a Halo 3 White Spartan Mark VI with silver shoulder pads. Is this common with the white ones? I got me another one with the correct white shoulder pads. Even the packaging pics show white. I didn't realize it until recently. Or is this some kind of error/variation?

Dont' have a clue. Can you post a pic? I'll be curious to see what it looks like and/or what others have to say.

Hmmmm.......looks like a boo-boo to me. I wonder if anyone else has seen any like this.

That's what I figured. Perhaps I should throw it on Ebay as some very rare factory error and make bookuu money off it.

My guess is a production error and they noticed it and fixed it, I got 2 the first week they started showing up and they're both silver pads, and I remember in another thread someone posted their stamp date on the package, mine was 1107 and theirs was 1207, so my guess is the silvers were the mess ups and they noticed it and fixed it... unless of course, someone with a silver can prove they have an earlier stamped date, then who knows...

the stamp is on the back of the insert. to the left of the UPC in the black area, mine says 112907

My white Spartan has the silver shoulders as well.

The one I got at Gamestop in-store has white shoulder pads, and the two I received from bbts had silver ones. I didn't even notice until today when I finally opened them.

So which one is rare? Which should I buy to keep sealed?

I would keep the silver-shouldered Spartan MIP, as it was an error, and ceased in production early on.
