View Full Version : Hunter Deluxe Box Set Petition

Well now that it's official from BBTS that they've canceled that pre-order of theirs, let's see how many people around here do want a Hunter box set made so that we can buy 2 of them to go with our other Halo figures...

also, throw out some price ranges that you could reasonably see paying...

I could see paying up to $25-30 a pop for them to be done in the right size and with a comparable amount of articulation. they could be partly rotocast in order to get the price down a bit and I wouldn't mind. They just have to be big enough, solid enough that they aren't fragile and look damn sweet.

Oh Yeah!
I agree that the Hunters don't need a ton of articulation, they don't have much in the game, so why should the figure differ. I would pay $30 retail for a 2-Hunter pack or $15 each if they were individually packaged. I would actually exchange articulation for some sort of clear plastic "energy discharge" that could be attached to the fuel rod cannon to look like they are shooting.

this is how I look at it... $15 each is single-carded figure price range, and a Hunter would be too big to fit into a clamshell since it's clearly going to end up being 7" or more and massively wide. think of a Jack Bauer sized box and tack on $10 and you're about in the area that seems most reasonable, IMO. if the average retail on the regular figurs is $12 a pop, then double that for the box set and add $5 if you want accessories or a base or an LED plasma trail

McFarlane has to make a Hunter, I mean if initially (last year) it was a possibility, why can't they still do it?

Lets hope they do.

Kabong30
03-21-2008, 01:28 PM
I hope they make them, but for those of you that know: How does the scale of the hunters from Joyride (or whoever made them) compare to the scale of the current Mcfarlane Spartans?

RaoulOD
03-21-2008, 01:37 PM
I've been collecting for years, and to be completely honest, a Hunter boxed set by McFarlane has been a dream of mine that I've had since the first time I played the original Halo and fell in love with everyone's favorite lumbering gestalt worm-hive pair bonded organisms, but thought it would never come true.

And now, it could.

I voted the hell out of that "Yes" option. I freakin' want this thing so bad, I can taste it. (And it tastes like plasticy goodness. And a little bit like shame, too. You know, just in case you were curious.)

$25.00 to $30.00 for a 5" scale Hunter? Wow, that's excessive, I think. Hunters aren't all much taller than Master Chief so they can probably get them into normal packaging. Look how well the Brute Chieftan fit.

But maybe as a 2-pack box set, that would be worth the price. Hopefully McF will consider Hunters for their 6" line someday?

RaoulOD
03-21-2008, 01:46 PM
If the hunter was in scale with the master chief in the five-inch scale, then it would translate to it basically being nearly a foot tall, standing up straight from head to toe. Hunched over, it would have spikes on its back that could also feasibly make the figure at least ten inches tall, from tip of spine to toe. Basically, it would be comparable in size to the fossil clan dragon from Dragons series 6.

And, it would be a big, heavy figure. They aren't just tall, they're big dudes.

Basically, it would freakin' rock, and I'd be all over it.

you obviously don't seem to understand the size difference between a Hunter and the rest of the Halo characters. They're about about 11ft tall, not counting the spikes on their backs which sometimes extend upwards when they're enraged.

the Brute Chieftan is undersized by about 3/4 of an inch to be honest, and a Hunter makes a Brute look small. think about the Adventures of Spawn figures and think of Creech's shoulders, now go wider and the figure would end up being a decent bit taller. there's no rational expectation for a figure of that size to fit in that clamshell unless it's scrunched in there and made super deep which isn't exactly the kind of thing you'd want considering how weak the plastic is for the clamshells, nor for it to cost anywhere under $22-25 at the minimum considering that if the Brute is a loss leader then as a single packed figure you're have an even bigger loss leader per unit to contend with. you would expect to get a much smaller run that is also more boxed-set friendly and as I said before, if they went the electronics route, $25 is not a stretch by any means. more plastic, more extensive paint apps than the bigger bad guys we've seen so far and comparable articulation means that this is a premium figure that you wouldn't expect to see a ton of to begin with.

expecting to get 2 Hunters in-scale for $15 a pop seems flat out unreasonable all things considered.

I'd be willing to pay even 40 bucks if there's a considerable amount of articulation. . . specifically being able to extend the neck and pose the spikes on his back and the like.
But I'd still get him if he was stuck in that hunched over, armored up pose that is pictured above. . . I'd just like him in the 20-30 dollar range then.

what are you prepared to do if they don't?

Joerhyno
03-24-2008, 08:18 PM
Well, I got an extra Joyride Hunter 2-pack, and was going to attempt to enlarge it with this stuff called hydrospan, you cast it in this stuff and soak it in water and then it grows.. then you recast it, and then you have an exact replica of the item, only bigger..

But I'm anal when it comes to my customs, so I'd have to enlarge it.. then resculpt all the detail, cause the JR stuff kind of lacked it.. then recast it... so it was just a huge project that I was really happy to set aside, lol.. when I heard about the size of the Halo figures, that made me happier, cause then they'd most likely make them.. so here's hoping.. if not.. then I'll be resizing and resculping those lil babies, lol

How much bigger would one need to be compared to the Brutes?

RaoulOD
03-29-2008, 12:44 PM
I think it would end up being nine inches standing up, so it would be about three inches taller than a brute figure? I think? AoC would know better than I would with the 5-inch scale of these figs, but I do know that normally a hunter stands about 12-14 feet tall upright, and around 9-10 feet in a crouched position.

InnerRayg
03-29-2008, 01:17 PM
In-scale, the figure would have to be about 8 1/2 inches tall according to my calculations

Avatar_of_Chaos
03-29-2008, 02:05 PM
8"-9" would be totally acceptable when fully upright.

I was hoping we'd finally get a scale hunter since the figure size of the halo characters had been reduced.

You know damn well they'd sell like mad. I've sold numerous loose joyride hunters for 40 a peice and those things are only 5 inches tall! I'm not talking 40 a two pack they sell for 40 an individual crappy 5 " tall joyride hunter.

Eh, I've only ever posted photos of the loose stuff. The MOC stuff I actually have to keep in boxes right now because of space issues - there just isn't much where we live right now. But I have full sets (minus the blue Mark VI and all the series 2 exclusives) of Halo 3 series 1 and series 2.

When I really, really love something, I tend to buy two of them, one to open, the other to keep MOC. The only other figures I've done that for are the Monsters series 1 Mummy and Sea Creature, Movie Maniacs 6 dog and warrior alien, Alien and Predator refresh Alien and Alien Warrior, and the Dark Ages Ogre. Oh, and I have an Octabrain from Resaurus' Duke Nukem line that took so long to find, opening it would just feel a little criminal. ;)

Their height in combat state is 8-8.5 feet which is comparable to Brutes who are 8.9 feet. If McF makes the Hunters in their combat state then they'll roughly be the same height as Brutes which would be totally cool with me just as long as we get some.

The spikes are like three feet long.

In any case, the hypothetical Hunter in a box still wouldn't work, because when it's hunched down it's also twice as thick as your Brute would be. It has to be a box set, it just isn't plausible for anything smaller.

fit fine in what? a bubble card the size of the existing ones? The depth of the ones for the Drones and Brutes was pushing it, so even if it's tall enough, it would be way too bulky and require a huge bubble.

id say a 30 dollar single set and a 50 dollar two-set, it would make sense for something as large as they are, and maybe make them as articulative as possible, since they really only need about 10-16 points. Oh and Vote yes, because they would be great, adn if they dont, ill get a Joyride studio, they seem about the right size, maybe....

Update: nevermind about the Joyride Hunters, Stupid minis.....

And i dont think it would cost that much extra to add an extra inch or two to the thin plastic that is the box.

Actually, I don't think it is. Joe said that a certain boxed set and another halo line will be coming out right around that time in today's update thread.

Uwe wondered aloud if it was the Halo Heroic collection and the MC/Brute boxed set.

Joe said he got one out of two right.

I looked up the SDCC pics of the Heroic collection. They're slated for a January 2009 release... right along with Series 4.

That means that there's a very good chance Joe DIDN'T mean the MC/Brute boxed set.

Dammit. Now you're going to get my hopes up! :D

LOL... sorry. I really hope I'm right, but I'm too much of a skeptic to really believe it myself....

Joe, if you're reading this, seriously, just let us know!

The Chief/Chieftain boxed set is coming out in November, as announced today... which means that we do not know the identity of the boxed set coming in January.

Seriously. Hunter. Please?

I would be so amazingly stoked for hunters.

If they do them, I sure hope that they do them justice. I couldn't see McFarlane doing it any other way, though.

Hopefully McF will consider Hunters for their 6" line someday?

the hunter should be around 10 inches if it was to scale and i would pay 25 and no more

djdspartan
08-18-2008, 02:50 PM
yea they should DEFFENTLY make them in singles or double packs
double packs should be priced at 25$
and singles priced at 15$
and their arm that shoots should have a strong green led light that makes their plasma cannon look cooler , and they should add "blast Noises" when you activate the light
if they did that i would SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BUY IT :D

Saurian
08-18-2008, 05:36 PM
You need to think realistically, the hunters will probably be a little pricey on the side, id expect them ot be at least 25 dollars for just one, and maybe 40 for both, they are popular enough to have a nice scale figure, but its getting them ready, made and actually boxed up that is probably the problem (theyd be huge imagine if this line __ is the average width of a normal box that almost all the figures of series 1-3 came in, while this line ___ would be the hunters size, since they half to be partially slouched over to fit int the height size of the box.

Go back to the pics we have posted here of in-game hunters. Look very closely at the arm. Then look at the shadow again.

Remember, the shadow has been cropped - it is not the whole thing.

Joe made a comment in the update today that the size is "impressive."

They're going to be in scale. And BIG.

Dragonblaster
08-27-2008, 03:41 AM
They'd be BIG if they were in scale with the Legendary figures. But to fit in with the regular series they wouldn't be much bigger than 10".
I'm sure going to get the Hunter when it comes out. But I so hope they're going to make a Legendary figure of it.
