MI. really needs to do something about the trash that gets on the track. I know all tracks get trash on them but its horrible at MI. On other note its time to boycott Nascar until they get a new tire manufacturer.

The flat tires are really getting out of hand. There are at least 5 each race. I have no idea what goodyear is doing, but they are making some really crapy tires. I think we need to get rid of this official tire of nascar BS and get some competition in here. That way we can have the companies trying to out do each other making better tires.

Where do they go ... Bridgestone/Firestone ??? I worked for them for almost tens years and had to deal with all the ATXIIs and Wilderness falling apart and all the explores rolling over. That reminds me a long time ago while at Firestone they were testing these new condoms ... I was going at it real good one night with this chick when it blew out all of a sudden and I rolled out of bed.

I say we just put solid rubber compounds on the rims, no air = no puncture right? :)
5/43 drivers isn't that bad of ratio, and if we could talk to the teams, they'd probly fess up and say they were running low air pressures or something. I don't think this is goodyears fault anyways, they have proven they can build a tire that will hold up, but Nascar (and the drivers) wants something that wears out and thats what Goodyear gives them.
Also, don't forget this was the first race that Nacar MANDATED a maximum camber setting, and there was what? One front tire that went out?
avsfan21
08-22-2005, 12:20 AM
I know they are making softer tires, and I think they should, but i dont remember this many tires going flat back in the mid to late 90s when the tires were softer. When they had the harder tires the races sucked, it always came down to a no tire stop at the end.
x90mattman
08-22-2005, 12:40 AM
I don't think there was as much demand from the tires back in the 90's either. It wan't the aerodynamics game that it is today. What I'm worried about is that goodyear is going to start making harder compounds because some teams go beyond what GY says you can do to the tire, then complain when they go to far and get burned.

WITH THE POINT RACE THIS YEAR, there is a good chance th Junior won't be in it. Do you think they will drop it because of this. I was watching an interview with one of the Nascar officials where he said they are estimation that they will loose over 20 million dollars in if Junior and Gordon don't make the chase. That's just in souvenirs, clothing, ect.

Eating crow on this one, watching Speed News last night and according to them Nascar said that all 4 of the down tires had cuts in them, so something was on the track, not the setups.

At least one of them will "conveniently" make it into the Chase. I can see how Rainbow Brite COULD make it in (make 11th place and Nascar allow 11th place into the Chase; didn't they do that last year?)

Gordon will have to race his way into the top 10 to be in the chase. With the way he is running this year, he wont have a chance at a championship even if he makes it. He always seems to fade at about the halfway point in the race. They need to do something to fix that.

The only thing good about being in 11th place is you get a bigger paycheck. They raised 11th over the $1 million mark last year so there would still be something to go fora at the end of the year if you didn't make the chase.

It was kind of strange, it worked out perfectly for me. I left for school just as they stoped the race for the first time it rained. Well I get home from school about 90 minutes later and they were just about to throw the green flag again. I was like wow that couldnt have worked out any better. Kind of tired of seeing Newman win all these busch races. I guess since he doesnt have a prayer of winning in cup (since they went back to the softer tires and he cant do the no tire pit stops at the end) he goes to busch.

Glad to see that Jeff made it to 10th in points, now lets see if he can stay there. I hope he can move up a few more spots to insure himself in the chase.

I don't think it was that bad. Basically that wreck ruined Harvick's year, and any Harvick fan can tell you that the tension has been mounting between him and RCR all year. Every week it's a failed engine, or a flat tire, or his spotter not telling him the pits are closed, or someone's mess that ruins his chances. RCR just can't seem to compete engine wise with the bigger teams, plus the Scott Miller move really got to Kevin. He's a hotheaded guy by nature and after the wreck all the tension just overflowed. I don't know how good the last few laps even helped him in the results.
Dale Jarrett on the other hand needs at least a fine, points docked, and I would love to see him sit out a race. He cost Harvick, himself, and maybe Newman a chance at the chase. I thought the guy was pretty classy, but that move was just idiotic.

Action Performance sold for $245 million By Ed Gately, Tribune August 31, 2005 Daytona Beach, Fla.,-based International Speedway Corp. and Concord, N.C.,-based Speedway Motorsports have partnered to become Motorsports Authentics, which has agreed to buy Action Performance for $13 per common share or about $245 million in cash.
Two top motor sports promoters, including the owner of Phoenix International Raceway, are buying Tempe-based Action Performance Cos. in a deal that is expected to benefit the struggling company.
Action Performance, a marketer and distributor of licensed motor sports merchandise, would be a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorsports Authentics. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the year.
"This transaction represents the best strategic option for our business," said Fred Wagenhals, president and CEO of Action Performance. "Under the leadership and guidance of Motorsports Authentics’ management committee and a strong integration team, the business should be able to more rapidly execute its turnaround strategy, return to profitability and capitalize on future growth opportunities."
Action Performance has continued its financial slide this year after net income plummeted to $500,000 in 2004, compared with $24.2 million in fiscal 2003.
For the first half of this year, the company reported a nearly $18 million loss.
"I look forward to focusing my efforts on further strengthening the relationships with our licensors and distributors, and contributing to the future success of Motorsports Authentics," Wagenhals said.
Along with Wagenhals, David Riddiford, chief financial officer, and Melodee Volosin, chief operating officer, are expected to remain in key roles in the new company.
Herb Baum, who was recently appointed executive chairman, will not remain with the company after the acquisition.
International Speedway Corp. promotes more than 100 racing events annually, and owns and/or operates 11 of the country’s major motor sportsrelated facilities, including the Phoenix track.
Speedway Motorsports owns and operates several racing facilities, provides souvenir merchandising services, and manufactures and distributes smaller-scale, modified racing cars.
The company also owns Performance Racing Network, which broadcasts syndicated motor sports programming to more than 710 radio stations nationally.
Action Performance recently announced a restructuring of its wholesale NASCAR die-cast distribution into a direct-to-retail model.
The initiative is expected to help the business through a lower cost structure, improved speed to market and earlier awareness of consumer trends, preferences and buying habits.
"As part of Motorsports Authentics, we believe Action has significant long-term potential for generating positive cash flow and earnings," said Lesa France Kennedy, president of International Speedway.
Action Performance’s stock, traded on the New York Stock Exchange, closed at $12.73 a share Tuesday, up 6.17 percent on volume of more than 5.27 million shares.
The stock’s 52-week high was $14.97, while the 52-week low was $8.

Now that the chase is over for 8, they should go ahead and do the Eury switch. That way they can use the last of the races as a pre season for next season.

People say that he whines, but no more than anyone else that is having a bad year. As far as criticizing his crew, I don't get that impression. He knows the whole team stinks, including himself right now. Kind of hard to hide the dissapointment.

He was really frustrated. He is so close to making the chase but nothing is working out for him. He is as much to blame as the crew since he tells the crew what is wrong with the car during the race.

Don't know who is out there right now that would be a good fit over at the Dupont team. You know they won't settle for someone that isn't proven.
Eury is back with Jr., so that is a no go. I think the 8 team should go ahead and make the switch since they aren't in the chase. Use these last races as a pre season for next season.

Wonder why he wants to leave? I think there's more than we're hearing! I doubt they would disrupt the 48 team, but what about a swap with Loomis, and Knaus? 48 hasn't been that good lately either, which further makes my suspicions all that more interesting! Something internal????

Yet, just a few weeks ago, Dale Jarret goes back out for on other reason than to wreck Newman, and gets a whopping 2 lap penalty. Funny how flipping the bird is gonna cost Truex Jr 25 points and at least 10 grand, yet using your car as a weapon is only worth 2 laps. If i'm pissed off and my day is done like i'm gonna care about going more laps down. Nascar has it wrong on this one. If somebody retaliates, they should be parked, PERIOD.

no, it cost J.J. last year, he was the one walking away with it........Gordon was behind Jr. when the chase started last year.
No Jeff Gordon would have been the champion last year if they had the real points system in place. JJ would have been second. With Kurt Busch like 3rd or 4th.

If you look at it from Nascar's view though, they made the right decision, they have never gotten press like they do now at the end of the season. So now instead of getting the majority of the press at the beggining of the year, they get it at the beggining and end. No real point in looking at who would have one under the old system, because the old system is a moot point.
No Jeff Gordon would have been the champion last year if they had the real points system in place. JJ would have been second. With Kurt Busch like 3rd or 4th.

I don't see how this is possible.
J.J. was in the lead when the chase started last year. Gordon was behind him.
Didn't J.J. still end up in front of Gordon at the end of the season? And even if he didn't, how could he have closed the gap without the point change. J.J. had checked out on everyone last year, including Jr. who was second in points at the time.
But I do agree, the points system is what it is and its not going to change anytime soon, if ever.

NASCAR SERIES 5 LINEUP ANNOUNCED
Newest ActionMcFarlane Figure Line Coming Soon
January 7, 2005 ActionMcFarlane opens up the garage and rolls out its NASCAR Series 5 lineup, featuring five of today's top drivers, one NHRA living legend and one commemorative figure for a racing star who left us all too soon. Here's our field of seven:
Casey Mears -- After training in the Craftsman Truck and Busch Series, Mears made his presence felt during his second full season in the Nextel Cup Series. The 41 car won pole positions at the Pennsylvania 500 and Brickyard 400 in consecutive weeks and turned in a season-high fourth-place finish at the Sirius at the Glen race in August.
How has this line been out for two weeks and we all missed this? I thought it odd when series 5 popped up and we didn't see any of these but figured I got series 5 and 6 mixed up. Apparently not .
Have to see what Mark can say on this.
And today I got a reply from Mark...
"The approvals dragged on Casey Mears' figure and he was eventually pulled from
the lineup. He may well make it into a future series."
As a Mears fan I hope he gets put into 6, but with him changing teams I doubt he'll be put in till we know his new sponsor...

hey guys, I know I've posted about this fantasy site before but I see you people love your fantasy picking each week and wanted to share this site with you. This is someone else's description but its pretty dead on....
Lucky Dog Racing is an elite NASCAR fantasy picks league that covers both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series. Members can play for money or just for fun. Cup membership is currently closed but interested players can be placed on a waiting list. Players can also play in the Busch series and eventually advance to the Cup league as space permits. Cup members receive their own team page and custom designed car.
www.luckydogracing.com
one other thing, members in the Busch league are usually the first ones called up to Cup....I think we have had five members called up from there this year alone.
I'm June Bug Racing over there, got eliminated from the Chase last week at California but recorded my fourth career victory in two years there at Richmond this week.

I'm cursed I tell ya, I couldn't get a truck race recorded if my life depended on it... So today I set up my VCR to record and get everything set up right, double check i've got the timer icon on and go to bed. When I get up, I see the tape as ejected and the timer light is blinking, so I pull the tape out, only to find that the VCR got hungry and tried to eat the tape. Weirdness!

I think Nascar should park the 9 car next week for the retatliation against the 5 car! Busch was a top 15 car, and because of track position could have possibly had a top 5, or 10 car. There is no way he hid Kahne on purpose in that situation. It sucks for Kahne, but it was one of those deals where they both wanted that spot on the track, Kahne pinched him down, and Busch slid up in the corner a little! This crap has to stop (aka 88 car 2 weeks ago), and the only way it will is for them to be harsh in dealing with this! That was Bullchit!

Well, I got through 2 hours of todays race before my VCR ate the new tape I put in. Glad this is my last week of 3rd shift and I can start watching these live again. Although sitting through the commercials will suck ***. I think that they should charge more for the commercials and show less, I mean we're the #2 sport in the US I think the sponsors would pony up the money to be one of a few sponsors. But I'm sure the TV stations would say they're bound to the Arbintron pricing of commercials, its all crap!

If I were NASCAR I would:
1. Fine Jarrett $50K retro-active to make a "statement". Also dock 50 points and probabtion the rest of the year.
2. Fine Kahne $25K and dock him 50 points. Probabtion the rest of the year.
3. Suspend Robby Gordon for 5 races. If he wants to put another driver in his car to have a shot at the top-35 in points, that's okay, however he is still fined $50K and his team takes a 100 point hit.
4. Suspend Michael Waltrip for one race. (He clearly turned Robby into the outside wall under caution on purpose.) Put an end to this crap right now. Fine him $50K and dock the team 100 points.
5. Kyle Busch. Probation for driving like an idiot.
6. Kurt Busch. Probation for entering another teams pit box.
Whatcha think?
:D

Kasey Kahne and Robby Gordon basically did the same infraction and should be penalized the most.
Next you should rip some points from Kurt Busch for entering another team's pitbox with bad intentions.
Kyle Busch and Scott Riggs and Michael Waltrip all drove like idiots, but that is a talent issue, not reckless driving so therefore should not receive any penalties.
Dale Jarrett.............well they dropped the ball on him a few weeks ago and that just gave the green light to the rest of the drivers to have their heads up their rearends. You can't penalize him now though.
Bronko
09-19-2005, 04:34 PM
The fines are in:
• Kurt Busch -- no penalties.
• Kasey Kahne -- fined $25,000, loses 25 driver points and placed on probation for rest of year for intentionally trying to hit another driver under caution. Team owner Ray Evernham also loses 25 owner points.
• Robby Gordon -- fined $25,000, deducted 25 driver points for attempting to hit another competitor on the race track (both with helmet and with car). Gordon also was fined $10,000 and deducted another 25 points for using profanity on TV. Gordon also is on probation for the rest of the year. Owner James Smith also loses 25 owner points for each fine.
• Michael Waltrip -- fined $10,000 and deducted 25 points for using obscene gesture. Owner Theresa Earnhardt also loses 25 points.
• Brian Vickers -- Primary Car was confiscated by NASCAR on Friday because of unapproved car body. Vickers also loses 25 driver points and was placed on probation for the rest of year. Crew chief Lance McGrew was fined $10,000 and Team owner Mary Hendrick loses 25 owner points.

Something I just thought of (thanks to Bronko's post about the penalties), going back to the rumor that Nascar was looking at limiting the # of cars a team has in the Chase, all that matters in that respect is one thing: Who is the OWNER of the car.
Example: Matt Kenseth's #17 car. Yeah, the car says Roush Racing on it, but the person who is the owner of the car is NOT Jack Roush, it's Mark Martin.
Another example (again, thanks to Bronko): Brian Vickers' car. Yes, it does say Hendrick Motorsports on it, but the owner on record is NOT Rick Hendrick, but Mary Hendrick.

Looks like they want to make the next Charlotte race a nice Snoozer.
Restrictor Plates at Lowe's Motor Speedway? With less than rave reviews of the ever-changing track surface at Lowe's Motor Speedway from Chasers Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Mark Martin afer a test last week, NASCAR officials are considering running restrictor plates on the cars in the October 15 race at Charlotte. Stewart and Biffle wrecked two cars apiece during the tests. After plowing his car at 170 mph into the Turn 2 wall, Biffle felt the aftereffects last weekend at Dover. "From the eye, the track looks good," Biffle says. But the tire compound doesn't work well with the track's new surface. NASCAR doesn't expect any relief until the track is repaved after the race.(Sporting News/Lee Spencer (http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=20371))(9-26-2005)

I just want to know when will they learn that putting plates on the cars at different tracks just doesnt work. It isnt that great at Daytona and Dega, but at lease you can some what pass. When you put the plates on the cars at other tracks it takes down the power and makes it a lot harder to pass. Just look at Louden a few years back Jeff Burton lead all 300 laps of the race.

Just read this on Jayski.
Changes to "The Chase" in 2006? There may well be a new rule on points for next year's championship chase, according to sources who say that NASCAR is considering a separate points system for the 10 leading drivers. Under that this season, Kurt Busch would not have lost as many points for his Loudon crash - Busch was credited with 41st-place points at Loudon, but under the proposed system he would have been credited with 10th place points, and would still be in the hunt. Of course, under such a new system, the worst finish a playoff driver would be credited with each weekend would be 10th - 134 points, losing at most 56 points to the tour leader. At Loudon, Busch finished 35th and got 58 points.(Winston Salem Journal (http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031785277858&path=%21sports%21autoracing%21nascar&s=1037645509206))(9-26-2005)
I cant say that I like the idea. If you finish 43rd, you dont get 10th place points. That is just stupid. Nascar is just making itself more and more like the WWE. Anything to rig the series for the show.

I kinda like that system. That was my only complaint when they set up the chase. The final 10 guys, although racing the other 33 guys on the track, are only racing 9 others on the points sheet. Think about it, it would be close as hell every year right up to the end, you're still going to have to have your A game every week regardless of the points situation, but your not screwed if your taken out by R. Gordon or Riggs.

Right now they have to race all 42 other drivers , or they get dookie points like Busch did. If its setup the new way - then they are only racing 9 others..
I really hope they don't change the points to what is proposed on jayski

Yea, soooo... we had to have our drivers locked in by last night, so I'm stuck with my Dover drivers. I'm screwed!

This is about Harvick's qualifying time being disqualified.
From Jayski:
NASCAR spokesman, Jim Hunter, addressed the media following qualifying with the following comment: "The No. 29 car's qualifying time has been disallowed. He (Harvick) will start Sunday's race from the rear. There were a couple of things in the rear area of the car did not comply with post-qualifying inspection. The trunk area was not sealed properly. It was not vented to the outside as prescribed in the rulebook. The shock doors inside the trunk area were opened and not secured. So there were several violations in the trunk area of the car. So there will probably be penalties coming out the first of the week. But that's why."(GM Racing PR)

Points would of been taken away from Johnson if the car stayed above the limit. Nascar tested the car again after the race had been over for awhile and the car passed. Really with Harvick's car that was his car for the race, maybe just minor changes to the shocks. Harvick tried this last year or earlier this year at a plate track so none of this should be surprising.
