Well I am glad I didnt go with Dale Jr for this race. I was thinking about it, then went with tony. I did have Mikey though. That might hurt a little bit.

Looks like the 48 car is responsible for another wreck at Talladega! Unless Sadler checked up, but nobody was in front, and it didn't look like Jr knocked him into the 38! :(

I hate it for the drivers, but it's so fun to see the comments from the chasers. JJ flat out lying that he was hit from behind, Biffle saying maybe Newman will wreck some more cars and they can gain some spots, and Martin calling for a fan revolt :D

Someone needs to tally (no pun intended) in dollars the amount of money Jimmie Johnson is responsible for costing other teams this season. The man is a menace, and quite frankly should sit out the next race, because last time I checked, being a careless idiot is an action detrimental to stock car racing.

Yes they should of, they do this every race there is a caution on the last lap. Nascar must not understand that it's the last lap and people are racing for the win. Nascar also must not understand that the driver's slow down after the caution, what are they worried about the driver's doing 2 more laps at full speed. So screw nascar for fixing the results before the driver's cross the finish line.

Once again, big deal, I have seen drivers cause wrecks back to back races. So should the be parked for the next 5 races?
Once again it all comes down to who you root for. If you like the person it was just a racing deal, if you dont it was all their fault. The first Talladega race the wreck was just a racing deal. The 4 and the 8 I believe were just as much fault as jimmie. The car that was behind the 4 (which I believe was the 8 car, but could be wrong) went to bump draft him got him a little sideways and the 4 and 48 got together. Now the wreck that happened yesterday was probably jimmies fault. I know for a fact that in the interview with dale jr he did say something about hitting jimmie, but that could have happened when he already started to get the 38 sideways.
x90mattman
10-03-2005, 04:13 PM
The Helicopter replay shows jimmie hit the 38, then slow down at which point Jr gets into him. Jr clearly has a hell of a run going on him but hits the 48 AFTER he gets the 38 turning. I thought it was funny that Jimmie was on the defensive right off the bat, and basically called everybody watching the race a bunch of morons. I think maybe he should watch the replay then look in the mirror and yell MORON!

How many more times you think Berrier gets in trouble before he's gone from the 29?
Irish_Flyers
10-07-2005, 11:38 AM
I know everyone here is a race fan, so how is that so many people don't UNDERSTAND racing and just point the finger right away.
I would love for it to be plain & simple that Jimmie ran into Sadler and THAT was the only reason the big one happened. But I think we can all agree that wasn't JJ's goal.
First I will say that I am a Jimmie Johnson fan. So if you wish to stop reading now, and think I'm just going to wave my JJ poms poms, then by all means, you can stop here.
But I think I'm being much more un-biased than all the JJ haters out there.
First of all, I think we should all know by now to NEVER take the word of a driver of his opinion of an incident on the track right after it happens. We see more often then not that there is something they missed or didn't know about because they were IN the car and didn't get to see everything unfold, like we can on TV. Sure, they're in the car so you would think that maybe they should be able to give you the best idea of what happened, but let me ask you this. You're driving down the road, at 40mph and you hear a loud bang on your car, do you always know immediately what it was & what happened.?.? Well you should, you were in the car, right.?.? Not true. It could have been something hitting the trunk of your car, the roof, the underside, the door, the window, etc etc. Could have been something you ran over, something thrown at you from some hoodlum hiding in a bush.....you never know right away, right.?.? And that's just you driving at 40. No helmet, no HANS device, no traffic.
Now add in about 150mph faster than the 40 you're going (let's not forget all the aerodynamics that come along with that), add in a helmet & HANS device, and just for good measure.....let's throw in 40 other cars all around you, all inches within each other Now when something happens to you in the car, I want you to get out and tell everyone EXACTLY what happened, right after an accident occured that you were invovled in.
And oh yeah, you have to be 100% correct about what happened or else thousands of people will want to crucify you. Ready.?. Go.
You can't possibly do it.
Why else do you think that Fox, TNT & NBC all stick a camera in the driver's faces right after a wreck happens. They want good sound clips & quotes about what happened. They've even resorted to bringing a small little TV screen for the driver to watch the replay, but can you honestly think a guy can give a good opinion from watching it on a 7 inch screen, right there on a live interview.?.?
We're seeing drivers start to realize this a little more, which is why some of them are saying, they don't want to comment without being able to review the footage.
So think about it, thesse guys have their mirrors, spotters, and can see in front of them. Other than that they're pretty limited in knowing exactly what happens. Those cars jostle around so much at 190mph, maybe to JJ it could have felt like Jr bumped into the back of him while he was in the race. Since he "felt it happen" maybe that was his first thoughts of the incident.
Give him a day to talk it over, and review footage and then the guy accepts blame for it. And in the end isn't that what makes all that is wrong, right again.?.? Fans want guys to accept blame. Once they do accept balme, it seems that all is forgiven.
Look at Nemechek back in the spring race. He caused a pretty bad wreck, and when he was asked about it, he just took the blame for it, and you never heard a peep afterwards. So why all the hoopla over Jimmie now.?. Sure he was at fault for this race, but he accepted blame for it.
And yes he was involved in the Big One at the spring race too (but with that one there were a bunch of factors that caused that wreck. Jr, bump-drafting the 4 car, getting him a little loose, JJ coming to the left a little, and again take into account all the aerodynamic factors that happen as well......had it not been for all that happening at the same time, then maybe that accident would have never happened. (Who knows)
We all know what happens at Talladega. "The Big One" right.?.? And we all know that refers to a wreck. So as race fans none of you should be surprised when it happens. Or point blame onto guys in those cars.
The week leading up to Talladega, you're probably talking to your buddies, "Aww, I can't wait to watch the race.....Talladega, baby. Get to see the Big One. Woo-Hoo."
Then fast forward to you watching the race and see a driver be the one to start an accident....
"Aww you moron!! What an *****!! Johnson is the worst driver ever!!! He just caused a big accident."
Does that seem ironic to any of you.?.?
When they're all bunched together like that on restrictor plate racing, 2-3 wide all going 190mph in a big pack wouldn't you agree that there's a LOT of wind in between those cars. That has A LOT of affect on those cars. Good and bad. That's stuff that we can't see. Again consider yourself driving on a highway, and let's say that there are 20-30mph winds. Can't it be a little bit of a challenge keeping your car in a straight line.?.? You're probably saying, "Whoa, I'm all over the place here." Now I ask you to consider the logistics of a pack of cars all going 190mph. Don't you think there's going to be a little shifting & sliding there too.?.?.
And the fact that JJ was involved in a wreck both times at Talladega this year is kind of incidental. He was in a pack of cars all towards the front both times. It could have been anyone there. Heck, Jr was there both times.
If we go back in the history of the track, I'm sure this isn't the first time 1 guy has been caught up in "the Big One" at Talladega multiple times. It's not like JJ's goal is to head out there and get in a wreck. He's in the middle of competing for the championship.....once AGAIN, (I might add), so he can't be THAT bad of a driver.
I don't expect everyone to all of a sudden change their mind. I would just ask that everyone think a little more logically about things when an accident happens in a race. Especially when it's at a track where we all know one is going to happen.
I've gone on much longer than I intended to, but I get tired of hearing how he's the worst ever, and it's all his fault. I thnk race fans need to take into account that there are dozens of complexities that make a race car react the way it does, and sometimes when an accident happens it's not necessarily a specific drivers fault, but rather the fact that a bunch of random factors all happened at the same time, thus causing a car to react in a particular way, which could be minor on their own, but put them all together at the same time, and you have yourself a bunch of wrecked race cars.
It's Just Racing, people. Enjoy it.
Whew, I'm tired now.....

Yea, but his little "your not in the car, don't make an oppinion" comment just ticks me off. No kidding we're not in the car, but those of us sitting on the couch are the reason he has a job. Lets not forget either this isn't true racing, this is entertainment 1st, racing 2nd. If you want racing 1st entertainment 2nd, go find another series that doesn't get nearly the ratings Nascar does. Why don't they? Cause they're not as entertaining.

Yea, I heard the press conference on XM (WFO!). Sounded like his PR person made him do it. Makes me laugh that he couldn't just wait till the weekend to say yea, i screwed up, or just call the drivers and drop it. (Though he did call the drivers)

Irish Flyers, this is the first time I've been in here in awhile so sorry for the late reply, but about your argument on J.J.
You make very good points on why he reacts the way he does and such in the interview afterwards, but don't forget. These guys, just like NFL players make very good money and are accustomed to the little things in the race that we as a fan would find unbearable.
Eventhough, your argument was well thought out, you left out one little but very important detail. Neither 'Big One' that the #48 created would have started if he had not tried to bump-draft (excuse me, slam-draft with these new bumpers) in the corners and tri-oval. Bump-drafting the last couple of years has gotten progressively more aggresive without any inclination to safety or common sense.
The drivers that 'know' how to bump-draft properly have always been competitive at these tracks (Jr., Gordon, Wallace, Martin, Stewart, Jarrett).

Dale Earnhardt, Inc.’s No. 15 NASCAR Nextel Cup team will campaign a seven-race schedule in 2006, with Paul Menard driving and sponsorship from Menard’s, the hardware chain owned by the driver’s father. If all goes well, Menard and the team will do the full Cup schedule with DEI in ’07.
Menard’s first race will be the 2006 Daytona 500, DEI Vice President of Motorsports Richie Gilmore said Saturday night. “We’ll kind of see how it goes from Daytona, but it looks like it’ll be the big races: Daytona, Indy. We’ll run Watkins Glen again, which Paul ran this year and then move him up the next year.”
Next year, Menard will also run the full NASCAR Busch Series schedule in a DEI Chevrolet, Gilmore said. “It’ll be a lot better for Paul to keep him down there and running him for a championship like we did with Martin (Truex, Jr.). That’s where we really feel comfortable.”
Gilmore said DEI mulled a third full-time Cup team next year, but instead will run full-time cars for only Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Truex in ‘06. “We had a couple options that we looked at, but for us we’re better off trying to regroup the two teams we have now,” Gilmore said.

Maybe, someone can figure out what's causing the tire issues, and fix it!
They repeatedly said what was the cause of the tire issues last night. Due to Humpy levigating (grinding) the track down to make it smoother (it was his intent to make the racing better), it caused the cars to go much faster since they had alot more grip on the track.
Since the cars were going so much faster (186 mph consistantly instead of tapering off to about 180 after a few laps), that caused the tires to become to hot and started to blister and thus causing the blowouts.
All the drivers, owners and track officials knew this was going to happen but there was nothing anyone could do on such short notice. (not enough time to make enough tires for all 86 teams over the weekend)
How will they fix it? Well they are going to repave the track and hopefully soon so the asphalt has time to cure before the May race and thus have more than one groove. They are talking about giving it the graduated banking all around the track like Homestead has. That race has become alot better, hopefully they do the same to Charlotte to get it back to where it used to be.

Goodyear has already proven that they can build a tire that is pretty much indestructable, but that's not what Nascar wants, so thats not what Goodyear makes.

But, he wouldn't of had a chance with the old system either. In fact, Tony would be running away with the title under the old system. At least now there is a chance an unknown like Newman or Mayfield will surprise us all and take the title. Just got back from the race, and damn am I beat. Poor Paul is driving on back to Indiana. We had a great time. I will post some pictures tommorrow, and I am sure that Paul will post some as well. When we left, we followed a group of people out through the drivers lot. Carl edwards was walking through the lot still in his firesuit, and he looked severely pissed. Great race for me though, as my driver won. That was the first race that I have attended that Gordon has won. However, my day has ended crappy, as my Astros lost again.

I am back home... THANK THE LORD... what a brutal drive. We got in the car around 5:30pm andI arrived home around 5:30am. Took a little 1 - 1 1/2 hr nap at a rest stop just inside Indiana - but man it was hard to stop when I knew I only had 150 miles to go, but I had to I was starting to doze.
I came home and slept for 4hrs, but dont want to sleep all day and get my sleep pattern off
What a great time - thanks to Jason and his family for the hospitality. I haven't even looked at my pictures - but hopefully has some good one.

Funny how Marks world changed in the last year. Went from running full cup in 05, a few busch races and 1 truck race, then full truck in 06, too Full Cup, Partial Busch, and partial Truck series in '06. I just hope one of his truck races is at Mansfield!

I guess all the hype about everything being Marks last time at this track stuff is now just BS. At least Rusty is sticking to his word.
But, he wouldn't of had a chance with the old system either. In fact, Tony would be running away with the title under the old system. At least now there is a chance an unknown like Newman or Mayfield will surprise us all and take the title. I would love to see Mayfield win the title and bring all his dogs up on stage with him at the banquet :D Plus, Shana is one of the hottest Nascar wifes ever ;).
Well, unfortunately after cutting a tire while running near the top 5 all day at Martinsville, the chances of seeing my driver win the championship are slim. It would definitely be nice to see the dogs and Shana :D up on stage!

Kurt Busch stopped for "erratic driving" in Arizona
November 12, 2005
By Bruce Martin SportsTicker Contributing Editor
AVONDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - Defending NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch was pulled over for "erratic driving" with the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in nearby Maricopa County on Friday.
According to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman, Busch was pulled over at approximately 8:20 p.m. local time Friday. An officer on the scene noticed the smell of alcohol on Busch's breath and asked him to take a field sobriety test, which was refused.
Police officers then prohibited Busch from operating the motor vehicle before driving him to Phoenix International Raceway, where they attempted to give him a breathalizer test. However, the device malfunctioned.
Busch, who is eighth in the standings with two races remaining in the season - and in his tenure with Roush Racing, officially has been charged with reckless driving and ordered to appear at Tolleson Justice Court in Tolleson, Arizona on December 22.
Busch, will drive the No. 2 Dodge Charger for Penske Racing South next season, was summoned to the NASCAR trailer early Saturday morning to discuss the incident with NASCAR president Mike Helton, according to sources.
When asked about the incident during Saturday's Nextel Cup qualifications, Busch admitted he had received a speeding ticket.
The 27-year-old Busch was unavailable for further comment following qualifications for Sunday's Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
If Busch had been charged with an alcohol-related offense, it would have been complicated by the fact that one of his sponsors at Roush Racing is Crown Royal. Next year, he will compete in a car sponsored by Miller Brewing.
Attempts to call Busch's public relations representative at Roush Racing went to voice mail.

Kurt was suspended by Roush, not Nascar. I think Jack got some payback for the whole Miller thing. Did you hear these comments?
Geoff Smith, Roush President:"It's the last straw for Roush Racing, we're officially retiring as Kurt Busch's apologists effective today."
Jack Roush: "He's a young man with great potential that has been realized to an extent, but he's got some challenges building relationships in the public and the sponsors community to realize that potential."

Do you guys think that Kurt Busch got a raw deal when the Sheriff's had suspicion of drunken driving when Kurt didn't show any of the 6 signs that would indicate impairment during another test were present
Personally I think he got screwed because now everyone thinks he was drinking and driving and it makes him look even worse because he has alcohol and liqour sponsors.

That might be below the .08 state limit, but it's above the .00 limit of Nascar. Drivers are forbidden to drink on race weekend, and Kurt Busch broke that rule. I agree that the police seemed a little vindictive, but he still broke a lot of laws: driving over the speed limit, running a stop sign, and confronting an officer. Did he deserve the ticket? Yes. Did he deserve his supension? That is up for debate. Would Roush have done this if Busch was leading the points? No. Did Busch's Penske decision have something to do with Roush's decision? Absolutely.

They are now at the TRU's here in Vegas....one case, which is good because they won't even sell out on that one...the Gordon one is pretty cool comes with part of the door panel with very realistic window net, I would get one if I had room for it or if I liked Gordon...the Junior (Ritz) also has the door panel and the variant is the no sunglasses one.

1 Dale Earnhardt Jr. without sunglasses

x90mattman
11-17-2005, 06:55 PM
Yea, quite the tease after series 5. But on the other hand, who would they make one of in this series? Sure it would be sweet to see a Jr in another firesuit, but that would also require a new paint of the door as well. Gordon couldn't get one because it is of a specific moment. Elliot could get one, but that would throw off the case packs. Rusty? Maybe, but I think his is kinda styalized too. Johnson could have hand one ( I want Spongebob!), and Adam Petty was before I got back into Nascar, so I don't know who else he was sponsored by, but would have had to have his numbers bumped up as well, thus cutting a gordo or jr.
Although I'm bummed that we apparently don't have any firesuit chases, i'm still stoked by the gordo and jr figures in this line.
My 2 cents.

From Jayski:
Big Apple buzz included the TV partnerships for 2007. Apparently, NASCAR has signed an eight-year deal across the board that will include FOX Sports, TNT and a reunion with ESPN/ABC. FOX will get the rights to the first half of the season, including the Daytona 500. TNT, a NASCAR partner for more than two decades, inherits the next part of the schedule, and ESPN/ABC picks up the final portion of the season, including the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup. ESPN2 will cover the entire Busch Series schedule, providing much-needed continuity. The return of ESPN promises fans a wide range of programming that was limited to Speed Channel under the current deal. We probably won't know for a while which announcers and analysts will end up where. For example, the NBC regulars can't discuss future opportunities until their contracts expire. Expect Rusty Wallace, who has lent his experience to TNT in the past, to find a role somewhere.
If this is true, what are they going to say is the first half, second half. I guess the chase will be the third part so ESPN gets that.

I am so happy that ESPN is back. The way I understand it is that the season will be divided by 3, so each network gets and equal share. This makes me so damn happy that NBC doesn't have it anymore. Also I hope that ESPN can get the sponsors to agree to a split screen during commercials like they do with the IRL races.

Making an awards show mandatory is a bone head move by Nascar, like these guys are gonna care if they don't get there extra 750,000, thats chump change for these guys. Why have them show up if the guys admit they don't want to be there (which is what Kenseth did last week during an interview).

First thanks for the Packs Troy... they got here yesterday.
I did quite good ...
I pulled a Top Prospects Kyle Busch Race Used Tire #010/350 #KB-T
Also got 2 PP Autographed hat Entry Cards ... Mears and Harvick ... they are expired though so not worth much.
Anyone pull a Gordon Hot Pass plastic card ... Id trade any of my extras for it.
Oh ya I also pulled one variant card ... Chip Ganassi team card with the Blimp in the back ground.

Wow!! Thanks very much Aaron! I will try and find you something 24 when I can! Wish I had something to send back. :o Yah, I got hosed for about $40-$50 over our rake in, but that's okay, I was glad to do it! I had fun running it! Man, you were coming on strong there at the end! Glad it ended then! LOL!!! I caught Neil finally with about 4 weeks to go, and then I had a very bad week, and that was all she wrote! Finished 2nd in the pool on Beckett, too! :( I'd like to do it a bit different next year, but we'll throw out some ideas in a couple months! If we can put in a bit more $$$ each, we can get better boxes with something in them! Maybe Wheels American Thunder as you get 3 memoribillia, and 1 auto per box, I think! Would have to put in $30-$40 each to do it though!

Stewart injured at Chili Bowl
Racing series NASCAR-CUP
Date 2006-01-14
By Linda Przygodski - Motorsport.com
Reigning NASCAR Nextel Cup series champion Tony Stewart sustained injuries after flipping his Midget car during the opening laps of Friday night's qualifying Heat 8 for the 20th Annual O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals at Tulsa Expo Raceway.
See large picture
Tony Stewart. Photo by Michael C. Johnson.
Stewart was taken to a local hospital complaining of pain in his right arm. Doctors took X-rays and found no broken bones. Stewart was, however, outfitted with a cast on his right arm until his personal doctors can make a diagnosis when he returns home.
"I'm a little sore," said Stewart. "The doctors were great and did a pretty thorough evaluation of me. They didn't find anything broken, but just to be sure, they fitted me with a cast that I'll wear until I meet with my doctors on Monday. It looks a lot worse than it is.
"In no way should this affect my upcoming test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, my plans to compete in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona or my participation in Daytona Speedweeks."
Stewart was coming down the backstretch on the opening lap when he hit the wall and launched into a series of flips in his ride. The Cup champion had scored the win in the seventh heat, ending his hopes to secure a second Chili Bowl title. Stewart was racing in the Chili Bowl for the eighth time, his earlier win came in 2002.
Testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set for the end of the month with Speedweeks officially kicking off for Nextel Cup teams on February 10th.
Stewart was treated and released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
I wonder if he will be ready for the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Earnhardt Jr. ready for radio
By Associated Press
January 19, 2006
CHARLOTTE – NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be branching out this year, adding a weekly show on XM Satellite Radio to his already busy racing and personal appearance schedule.
"I love racing and I love XM, so I definitely couldn't pass up on an opportunity to combine the two," Earnhardt said Thursday. "It's a perfect fit."
The show on XM's NASCAR Radio, channel 144, will debut next month. The third-generation stock car driver will discuss the latest events on the NASCAR circuit, as well as music, video games and other personal interests.
"Listeners to my new show on XM will get a real sense of who I am both on and off the track," Earnhardt said. "Thanks to XM, I'll have a national weekly radio show that allows me to speak my mind, play my music and, most important, keep in touch with NASCAR fans."
I think I would rather see him spend his spare time trying to improve his racing!!
