Irish Flyers, no one commended J.J. for complaining about bumpdrafting last year because he caused three wrecks in the four Plate-races. A fact he finally admitted during a Speedweeks interview.
Knaus is hands down the smartest and dumbest crew chief in the garage at the same time..........he is always finding ways to make the car faster and still he goes about it in a way that seems to beg to be caught. Templates are the easiest way to get caught and he's failed them how many times???? I don't pretend to say others don't try, it just seems they know how to hide it better.
The whole fact that no points were taken away speaks volumes of how Nascar really should have a sponser decal on Jimmie Johnson France's hood.
Knaus is the talent on that team though, put J.J. on an average team and he wouldn't even have five victories yet.
And fans hate him for his attitude, it has nothing to do with jealousy.

How in the hell can they justify a NO point loss for the #48 team????

That is complete Horse crap!!!! I am really really getting tired of how NASCAR uses the so called "Rules" for certain teams and not others!!

If you have been watching NASCAR for any amount of time then you know they have a history of selective enforcement especially with the 48 team. Ive met Jimmie a couple of times and hes really not as big of an arrogant pr*ck as he seems. I still dont root for him but he does get a bad rap sometimes. Got to Daytona Saturday afternoon and it was high 70s low 80s by Sundays race I froze my butt off. Hard to enjoy a race when its misty windy and cold but it was still a good time. Next up Bristol in March and it may actually be warmer there than it was this weekend

I'm not quite sure why you say Johnson should be docked points.
For what.....the rear window violation?
How can they dock points for that? The season hadn't started yet and no points were accumulated at that point. I could be wrong, but once the green flag drops for Daytona that's when the season starts and points begin to be accumulated.

Johnson's car passed a 3-hour inspection. So there was no violation and no reason to dock points.

Not sure when Junior cursed on TV (I didn't see it), but if it was a post race interview, then I guess that's why he got hit with the fine & points. Personally I agree & don't feel docking points for that was fair, but didn't they hit him with the same fine before? (Money & Points)

And the whole ida that Nascar doesn't go after the 48 Team, is crazy.
Knaus was EJECTED from the biggest event of the year. It's not like they said, you can stay but you can't be in the pits for the race. He was removed from the event a week before it happened. They told him he had to leave for the entire week. I don't quite get a warm & fuzzy feeling from that kind of penalty. Plus he now gets a $25K fine and an additional 3 race suspension.
How is that Nascar favoring a team??

Anyone read the article on FoxSports at all? It's mentioned how all teams look for an advantage....

Johnson fires back at Newman
NEW YORK (AP) - Jimmie Johnson believes he won the Daytona 500 fair and square.
That is more than he can say about postrace comments that painted him as a cheater.

Johnson fired back Tuesday at Ryan Newman, who said the victory wasn't "necessarily good for the sport." Johnson won the race Sunday without crew chief Chad Knaus, suspended for making an illegal modification to the No. 48 Chevrolet during qualifying.

"I think inside it felt good to (Newman) to take a shot at me," Johnson said Tuesday during a media tour through New York. "He didn't win the race. That's what disappoints me. Be happy for me. I overcame a lot in this race. Why take a cheap shot?"

Newman, who finished third, said after the race: "This could still be the first opportunity for NASCAR to pull away a victory if the thing is illegal. It's disappointing. I think a lot of Jimmie Johnson and his talent, but I'm pretty sure at least three of his last four wins have had conflictions with the cars being illegal."

Those comments were made before Johnson's car passed postrace inspection. Johnson won the race for the first time in his five-year career after charging to the front with 14 laps remaining and holding on over two restarts.

Though Johnson understands drivers sometimes make emotional comments after races, he questioned some of what Newman has accomplished in the past.

Specifically in 2003, when Newman won a career-high eight races.

"It's well known that he got spectacular fuel mileage and there was something funny going along with that on his side with his equipment," Johnson said. "I'm not one to judge people when they have infractions in our sport because all the crew chiefs walk that line. They're trying to find an advantage. That's what they're paid to do."

There was more fallout later in the day, when NASCAR suspended Knaus for three more races and fined him $25,000 for making the illegal modification.

Knaus has had problems in the past, which probably led to the negative comments. Last March, he was accused of cheating following Johnson's win in Las Vegas when his car failed postrace inspection. After a win in September at Dover, Del., Johnson's car again failed inspection.

Only that time, NASCAR said Knaus had exploited a loophole in the rule book, and the sanctioning body quickly closed it.

Johnson said every crew chief is trying to find an advantage, so Newman should have kept his thoughts to himself.

"We have 45 engineers at Hendrick Motorsports that are trying to make our cars better and trying to beat the system," Johnson said. "He has a staff trying to do the same thing. Years ago this was a fun game between the sanctioning body and the crew chiefs. Now with all the eyes watching, it's turned into a different animal and there's such a negative spin off.

"In the garage area, the crews know they're trying to pull one over on the sanctioning body and the sanctioning body smiles about it because they know they're trying to get them back. It's a cat and mouse game that's been in our sport forever and it will always be there."

Does it really matter?

Knaus will still oversee work done in the shop. He'll still have say in the final raceday setup. He'll still track the team's progress daily via cell phone and e-mail.
He just can't be on track grounds!!

So basically anyone who knows anything about cars can be put up on the box, all Chad needs to do is call the person and tell him what to do!!

Do I really have to comment on this??? The race season begins as soon as the 1st Practice Session starts!!!

NASCAR has always penalized teams 25 points for infractions, regardless if it was at qualifing or race day... Take a look at harvick's team last year and the gas tank modification!!

Not sure when Junior cursed on TV (I didn't see it), but if it was a post race interview, then I guess that's why he got hit with the fine & points.

That is one reason I am starting to really dislike nascar. Their rule book is written in pencil and changed way too much. The rules change from day to day. It just makes for arguements like this. The need to set a rule book in stone each year and follow it so everyone gets the same penalty for the same infractions.

If anyone can get Fox Sports Radio, check out The Drive w/ Chris Meyers. He has a weekly call with Jeff Hammond, and they discussed this stuff yesterday. Hammond will be on the air the whole show on Friday. Hammond says there is a lot that goes on that fans just aren't privied to. Things as far as decisions by Nascar and their reasoning behind it, but that it all goes back to prior decisions.

He also said he hates hearing people say there's cheating in Nascar. Every team makes adjustments to the cars, and that's why Nascar refers to these as violations or penalties.
Kind like in the NFL. There's holding on every play, however every now & again there's a holding pnealty called. That's what happens in Nascar.
He said if people think that EVERY team in Nascar isn't trying to modify the car in ways that are outside of the rule book, then you're fooling yourselves.

It's a cat & mouse game between teams and officials nowadays.
The King himself used to always say, "Make sure you cheat neat." Now back then there wasn't nearly as much technology to catch "cheating" so do you think Petty would have as many of his wins if officials had all they have today.?.

I'd blame RCR more than I would Harvick. I couldn't tell you how many times he had engine problems and got knocked out of races last year. Not to mention constant problems with lack of horsepower. And it seemed like every single time they ran a special paint scheme they finsihed worse than usual. But, Childress said he has rededicated himself this year and made some changes to the engine department.

Strike Three for Hmiel - Banned for Life: NASCAR officials confirmed Friday that former NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series driver Shane Hmiel failed a third drug test and has been banned from NASCAR for life. Hmiel failed two prior tests in 2003 and ’05, and NASCAR officials said Friday that he failed a third within the past week, prompting his banishment.(Speed Channel)
AND Driver Shane Hmiel has been suspended from competition for life by NASCAR after failing a third substance abuse test. "Shane failed to fulfill the prescribed rehabilitation program scheduled by NASCAR," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Friday. "As a result, Shane has forfeited his opportunity to compete in any NASCAR-sanctioned events." Asked if there is any possibility of Hmiel racing in NASCAR sometime in the future, he said, "No, it is a lifetime ban." Hmiel, the 26-year-old son of longtime crew chief and team official Steve Hmiel, was first suspended in September 2003 after failing a test. He completed a required rehabilitation program and was reinstated for NASCAR competition in February 2004. But he was suspended again last June after failing a second substance abuse test. NASCAR had laid out a road map for Hmiel's possible reinstatement in 2007 that included medical and psychological reviews and frequent testing. NASCAR said Hmiel failed one of those tests. NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy, based on "reasonable suspicion," allows the sanctioning organization to broadly administer tests virtually anytime, anywhere.(ESPN.com/AP)

Thanks for the tires Jr (Eury), I knew it was tough on ya" (He went from 18th, last on lead lap, on the restart to 11th by putting on 4 new tires at the last caution)

Another thing I thought was interesting today, was until the end of the race, Jr just told Eury Jr what the car was doing, they'd pit, then Eury Jr would tell him what he did to the car after he was back out on track. Thought that a little odd they didn't communicate more before the pit.

was curious if anyone has or had signed up for NASCAR Track Pass, and if so. Is it worth it? thanks in advance!!!

I dont understand why nascar wants to add more tracks like this to the schedule saying they are good for the fans. Maybe if the fans had cots in the stands.

IF the Seattle area track ever gets underway, it is supposed to be a 3/4 mile track. The NY track is supposed to be a short track as well, don't know the exact size.
Cup Series will be going to Mexico in a couple of years at the road course that Busch races at next week.

I dont think Berrier is the problem really. As for Harvick jumping ship? You have to wait at least five races to determine who's got it and who doesn't this year....Burton has competed nicely the first two races, Harvick may follow suit shortly and thus stay at Childress.

As for jumping to Toyota, you guys see the D.W. commercial stating which drivers will be in toyotas next year? When the engines rev after he says Mikey, if you read his lips, it looks like he says Kyle Petty and Junior............Which we know neither will leave their respective teams, but I just thought it was a tongue-in-cheek joke to get people going.
If so, it was pretty funny.

Thats the thing that is confusing me. I know its early but take today for instance. Burton and Bowyer ran good today but Harvick was stinking up the joint. I dont know who is to blame right now but when you're driving for one of the "best" organizations you shouldnt be stinking it up like that.

That's the problem. Kevin's had a fast car at both races this year, but once the race starts the car gets progressively worse at the race wears on. At Daytona he was up front all day until Berrier decided his carburetor had to be replaced, and today he started off bad and it got worse after every pitstop. I'm getting tired of hearing Kevin say "It's junk" every week.

1 win in the last 3 years, and it came with Gil Martin as crew cheif ;).

As much as it pains me to say it, Darlington will eventually lose her race date. Besides that, there are a few tracks that will lose their second date (Martinsville, Pocono, Richmond).............Nascar wants to eventually go to the type of schedule where you visit each track once a year.............that is far off into the future though. Right now, all it takes is the same owner to give up a date to provide a date for a new track. Since there are only three owners in Nascar, thats not to hard. Bruton Smith of Speedway Motorsports and ISC (the France family) as well as the guy who owns New Hampshire. And thats why N.H. will never lose its second date no matter how bad it needs too, as long as its an independant track, he's safe.

Neither of the two Roush hauler drivers was seriously injured, Smith said. "A car that had no lights on was driving the wrong way on the expressway outside of Phoenix and ran head-on into our #60 hauler," Smith said. "Someone was killed in the car." Kentucky Speedway is currently involved in a anti-trust lawsuit against NASCAR. They contend that they have the right to be able to host at least one race a year.
NASCAR's position is that they informed the owner of Kentucky before he built it that they had no intention of giving him a date because of location and close proximity to many current tracks.

It may be great racing but NASCAR is dead set on not putting a date there. This is the same lawsuit type as Texas had against NASCAR, but I believe it will be a different outcome. Bruton Smith gave up date at a previous track to get the second Texas date. Kentucky Speedway has nothing to offer in return.

The idea is to pick 15 MLB players from five predetermined groups (three per group) and whomever has the most HRs accumulated at seasons end, wins.

This will be the 19th year. Last year, there were about 350 prizes given out, 22 of which were $1,000 or more. Last year's Top Prize was $9,000!!!! There is also a prize for coming in dead last.

This contest is run out of Palatine, IL (Chicago area), but people from all across the country play in it.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITAL IS APRIL 1ST.

I have been to Atlanta several times and have never ever seen it sell out, even when it was the last race of the season. I hate to see all these 1 1/2 mile cookie cutter tracks so Charlotte sells out almost every year Texas too so Atlanta has to go to 1 race. I cant comment on Pocono I have never watched a race there. Atlanta has some of the best racing all season. I dont care if they dont sell out the stands. That is the tracks problem in profits. You can run anywhere on the track there and have a good car. So you have some running the low line, some in the middle and some up high. It makes for great racing. Just look at the track record for finishes going back the last 6 or so years.

I don't think it is authentic.

1-the sale price is way too low.

2-if you magnify the C.O.A. pic, you can read that it says 'nascar mcfarlane collectible', if this was the real deal, it would be phrased 'action mcfarlane collectible'

Thanks Mark.

On another note. As you all know last year, Paul and I went to Martinsville, and had a blast. I would love for a group of us to get together and go to a race again this year. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to offer them up.

That would be a good one. I ran it by the wife the other night, and she had no problems with it.

That would be cool - you could always crash here on the friday night and we could drive up on Saturday and get close to the track

Thinking of Michigan Posse. Both races are far enough away that we should be able to plan it out. One is in June, and the other August.

Michigan is cool because you can get pre-race pitpasses for like $20-25 or something

June would not work for me! :(

I have a work trip to Atlanta in the beginning, then the little ones Birthday then a family trip down east!
