When does it start snowing up there in MI? If they run it in late November, are they gonna need snow tires for this one? :D

Damn you shark fin!!! I don't think the 24 had anything for Kurt towards the end but having that shark fin problem at the end definitely didn't help.
I'm glad he didn't wreck his car when it spun, b/c it was a fast car and we'll probably see that a few more times.
This new chase format is going to be insane.

Another fun day at the track, but I left before the race even started. I almost passed out from the heat today. I ended up spending half of my day in the sun behind the pits taking pics during Practice and Happy Hour.
Autograph opportunites sucked today. I found where ESPN was setup doing interviews, so I hung there and got a few
Clint Bowyer 8x10
Robbie Reiser - Archive Paper Card
Kyle Busch - Archive Paper Card
Matt Kenseth - Snubbed Me
Juan Problem More Trouble - Snubbed me Twice
And I got my hi-light autograph of the night
Carl Weathers - Archived Paper Card (Apollo Creed himself - Hell Yeah)
Got some really nice shot of the drivers sitting in the cars, while they were checking tire temperatures and things during practice and qualifying.
I'll try and get pics posted later

He has Cingular/AT&T but Nascar won't let AT&T be on the car so with AT&T being in court with Nascar the 31 is going to be blank.

I was wondering if it was something like this....because it conflicts w/ nextel?
I was thinking it was something w/ ESPN blocking out
Either way, very stupid. Nice to see tax dollars will be spent in court to settle a sponsor on a racecar.

I think it would be classic if Jr misses the Chase by under 100 points. So pretty much that penalty kept him out of the chase. Take that nascar your penalty caused the most popular driver to miss the chase.

I'd like to See Burton run a White and blue striped car with no names on it. Basically blow up the globe logo to the point it's just stripes running across the car. Kinda like Ferrari does in F1 with the barcode. Barcode = Marlboro. I think it would be cool.

Must not have been a nascar for long if that is your best nascar moment.
I am glad that the AT&T vs Nascar thing finally got settled. The car just looked stupid running around with no logos.
Also I think this chase setup is stupid. I can see giving bonus points for wins, but they should have at least keep the way from last year where you get a different number of points from where you finished before the chase. It is stupid that the person in 12th starts with the exact same amount of points as the person in 1st minus the wins bonus. To me that says that just aim for 12th place but win as many as you can.

Jr. had a major hand in designing this car.
He picked the #88, because Ralph once drove this number for Petty Enterprises.
Red numbers on the door was his idea for obvious reasons.
--Amp'd, according to Mountain Dew newsletter, is the next evolution of Mountain Dew, with all the sports drinks and everything out there, you can see why they want to push this drink with Jr.'s image.

Great Job 24
Nice day for Blaney. Too bad Sauter cut Blaney off late in the race when he came down the track to get into the draft lead by Blaney (which made Blaney get out of the gas and shuffled to the back of that pack). But, that is restrictor plate racin' for ya!

I was wondering if Press Pass has a set that focuses more on Car cards than just the driver. I know a few car shott are in the VIP set but do they have one that has a majority of cars?

Not really - I think the majority of people prefer driver cards - pm me your address, and I'll try and track down some cards to send your way. Let me know who his favorite driver (s) is (are)

Just a few comments. So I was watching the replay of the Busch race on Speed this afternoon. It is just strange to hear a scotish accent on the radio of a nascar race. What was up with the comments of Bobby Hamilton Jr about Kyle Krisiloff. I mean he probably did get his ride because of his grandma's money, but I am sure that Hamilton Jr's Dad had nothing to do with him getting his ride.
Also I just cant understand this whole water in the gas thing at the Atlanta race. I mean how the hell could anyone get water their gas tank when there hasnt been water in Atlanta for about 2 years.

Yeah. Those changes won't happen until at least the 2009 season.
That should mean less cup drivers and owners will participate in the series. Good for the Busch drivers but potentially bad for the series if fans lose interest with less cup drivers in it.

Agreed. Stupid idea, I haven't watched a single race in the last two years for more than a few minutes - completely lost me as a fan of the sport. Uh, gee - all the other major sports have playoffs, why don't we do it too - completely back-asswards thinking. Nascar was cool because they didn't have some stupid playoff system - every race actually mattered (for every driver).

All kidding aside Gordon fans have a lot to be happy about this season. Sure this is another "What could have been" season, but the one thing to remember is this:
"Some would argue that a system that denies what would have been Gordon's fifth and sixth Cup championship is grossly unfair. The truth is, it's not. Every driver and team owner entered the Chase era with their eyes wide open. They knew the rules. They understood their implications. They did the math. They drew up their plans. They made their peace. Then they went racing."
I wish I could take credit for that, but this is from a good article about Gordon, by Tom McCarthy on Nascar.com. Give it a read. I agree with him about a lot of things. And one I found interesting is, Jeff is actually a victim of himself with this championship. He & Hendrick's judge of talent is what could have hurt him this year.
http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/opinion/11/19/jgordon.runner.up.standard/index.html
Sure I think there are things that still need to be changed with 'The Chase' but bear in mind the first couple years, people were saying the same about Jimmie how he 'woulda' won it had things not ever changed one of those 2 years before he won.
Plus the article has all the stats in there too about Wins, Top 5, Top 10s, etc. The only thing I can say about those are, yes I think Top 5s and 10s are VERY good accomplishments, but I think more needs to be paid to Wins, and Nascar did that this year. Maybe they need to reanalyze about the resetting of the points before the Chase starts.
But Nascar wanted a 'playoff system' and technically in all playoffs, the regular season goes out the window, so we have to deal with what they set forth.
Irish_Flyers
11-20-2007, 10:40 AM
If they still went by the old points ________ would be champion today.
Not to seem like a jerk, but how long are people going to fall back on this argument??
Nascar changed the format and all drivers know the format going in.
Jimmie had one of those season's, twice I think. Where he 'woulda' won it had it been the old way.

How was this not exciting? So I guess, you'd rather see it where a driver gets the championship locked up like 3-6 weeks ago? Or is it because it was Gordon who would have had it locked up weeks ago the reason you hate it?
Sure drivers kept dropping out like flies over the past couple weeks, but how is it not exciting for 2 teammates (on top of that Gordon being part owner of the 48 car), to duke it out for the Championship.?.?
Let me also ask you this. Do you like football, baseball, hockey or basketball? How are their ways to determine a League Champion any different than Nascar?
I do agree that the still need to tweak The Chase format, but I think it's better off now, than it was years ago.
avsfan21

Because it makes the whole season pointless really. For sure they way they had it set up this year. Everyone should not start with the same amount of points once the chase starts, that is just plain stupid. Racing isnt set up to have a playoff system. You can pretty much do away with the first 24 races of the season and race 10 and be done with it. I have hated the chase since they announced it so it isnt like I hate it just because Jeff lost. I would rather see Jimmie win it instead of anyone else, although it would have been nice to see Bowyer win it just to show how absurd the chases is. Come from 12th in points going into the chase and end up winning.

What do you guys think about 2 new pit road rule changes:
FIRST RULE
Over-the-wall pit crews in the Cup, Nationwide and Craftsman Truck series will no longer be allowed to push-start their stalled race vehicles for more than three pit stalls beyond their assigned service area.
"We've limited crews to the same three-box length for pushing as the vehicles can drive through getting onto pit road."
Darby said if the vehicle does not restart within the three-box limit, it would have to be returned to its assigned pit box to be worked on.
"We're much more comfortable with them pushing it back to the pit box and getting it started than we were with them pushing it the length of pit road," Darby said.
SECOND RULE
In the second, outside tires that have been removed from a vehicle during a pit stop can no longer be free-rolled from the outside of the pit box to the pit wall; rather, they must be hand-directed to the inner half of the pit box before being released.
"The way we saw the procedure develop, the tires were going, unattended, back to the pit wall," Darby said. "As long as their aim was correct, and nothing was in the way it works pretty good -- but typically it was not a good situation.
"So now we've mandated that the tire changer or carrier has to hand-roll or pick up the tire and carry it to the inside of the pit box."

Thought some of you might like to know that some Targets have marked down some nice framed autographs from Dale Jr, Tony Stewart, Juan Pablo Montoya & Kasey Kayne from 100 to $25 bucks. I picked up 1 of 2 remaining Dale Jr's at my local Target today. It's about 2-2.5 feet wide, probly 1 foot and a couple inches tall. Has 5 pictures, 1 big one in the middle and 2 small on each side. Upper left picture is Dale Jr with Eury Jr and Sr, bottom left picture is of the Born on Date Car, upper right is Dale Jr posing by a tire that he blew doing burnouts, and the bottom right says "A Ride to Remember 8" and has a piece of race used tire. The main picture is a colage of Jr celebrating imposed over him doing burnouts at Bristol (I think) and has his signiture. Comes with a COA from JR Motorsports as well as a hologram from JR Motorsports (signifying authenticity) as well as one from the company that put them together. I'll post a picture later tonight...

They should just do it like Endurance racing. Your car has to leave the pit box on its own power to rejoin the race. Plus they actually have to turn the car off to refuel. So it has to start back up and go on its own power. Now I dont think they should have to turn the cars off, but the cars should be able to leave under their own power.

If you go looking, walk the back of the aisles, that's where they usually put the clearance stuff. Good Luck!
Matt
Any chance the 1 you left behind is still there????

Damn I had the 12 car activated all week until yesterday, and I changed it to Kyle Busch. Oh well. :o Also, was gonna change Johnson to Stewart, but chickened out today! :o 3rd in the points isn't a bad start. Last year I was near the bottom after week one. :)
Started in the rear after Daytona last year and won back to back titles ... three peat:cool:

I seem to be a bit more interested in racing this season. than the past couple. Maybe my love for the sport is coming back.

I think that is the way it always is. It works that way in most sports really. Catch a few baseball games at the start since it is back, then if they are lucky I will watch some of the playoffs. I am sure my interest in Nascar will tail off as the season goes along.
