Can anyone find me a closeup of the special logo on the front of JJ's hood? I haven't seen any pics of the Hendricks twin daughters anywhere else!

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- NASCAR fined Nextel Cup driver Rusty Wallace $10,000 Tuesday for intentionally hitting Ryan Newman's car as the field returned to pit lane after the Oct. 24 race at Martinsville Speedway.

Wallace was angry with his Penske Racing South teammate after a run-in late in the race and bumped Newman's Dodge to show his disapproval.

The two were running second and third to Jimmie Johnson in the Subway 500 when the race went back to green for the final time with seven laps to go. Wallace, the only one of the three not contending for the season championship, tried a move to the outside of Johnson on the restart, going into a second groove where no one had succeeded all day.

Johnson rebuffed his attempt, and Newman, seeing an opportunity to take second, pulled alongside his teammate on the inside. The cars bumped and Newman won the battle, with Wallace remaining high on the track and sliding back into the pack. Newman finished third, behind Johnson and Jamie McMurray, while Wallace wound up 10th.

After the race, Newman said his car was faster than Wallace's late in the race and he wasn't going to give anything away to his teammate.

Three others were also issued penalties for equipment infractions at Martinsville by NASCAR.

Gil Martin, crew chief for Robby Gordon's' No. 31 Chevrolet, and co-crew chief Chris Andrews will share in a $10,000 fine for using improperly attached weights.

Mario Gosselin, driver of the No. 80 Ford, was fined $500 for having an expired manufacturer's date on his driver's head-and-neck restraint device.

He won 5 in a row? Correct? That would be extremely hard to do in todays day and age! If I recall, he did it near the end of the year, but he was too far out of the points race to win the Championship! I thought it was further back than 1999.

No, he won 5 that year not sure how many in a row!! The record for Most Consecutive Wins in a Season is 10 done by Richard Petty in 1967!!

man you guys are freaking stat machines :)

I couldn't even tell you how many races JR won this year... I just don't pay attention I guess..

Then again - ask me about a movie I just watched 20 minutes ago and I won't be able to tell you much about it either.

I guess I zone out when I watch TV or something - :)

Any of yall boys catch that race on ESPN classic yesterday?, it was the '88 race from North Wilkesboro (man I wish they were still runnin there today), Terry Labonte got the win, after Earnhardt had some late race trouble. My man Rudd came home in second, runnin them ole Quaker State colors, brought back quite a few memories. I wish they would show more old NASCAR races like they used to, maybe this will be the first of many more in their schedule.

Must be some kind of tribute to Earnhardt - I think he won all those races - except the 95-Bristol where Labonte won.

Well there you go. I had heard they were making a movie - didn't know when it would be on, didn't even know it was finished.

Anybody watch that Pete Rose movie - was it accurate? Don't know what to expect of the Earnhardt movie.

Here (http://espn.go.com/three/index.htm) is the movie website. Judging by the trailer I can't tell much. Most of these ESPN movies (Junction Boys, Season on the Brink, Hustle) haven't been all that great.

I heard JR say in the post race interviews he was racing for the win, exactly when did his car magically recover, cause I'm a huge #8 fan and I noticed he had nothing for the #6 or the #48, didn't he run that idea by Tony Eury Sr.? Cause I'm sure Sr.'s advice would've been to stay where you are and rack up some much needed points!

Actually if you watch the race again Jr did have a car for the win, is car came to life after that last pitstop. If you look really close you will see Martin was JUST ahead of him when he wrecked!!! I think he would have bee right there at the finish if he just learned to judge his distance abit better!! :)

Packing up the truck for the race tomorrow! Heading out at 8AM! Anyone know if you can rent scanners at the races? I heard they rule!

Scanners/Radios are the only way to go.

There should be several trailers in the merchandise area that rent them.

The BIG downside to renting these radios is trying to make it back to the trailer to return them after the race is completed..usually there is a HUGE line.

If you do decide to go this route..here's a good site for the '04 Cup frequencies.

Thanks for the info! No biggie on the line since it takes about four hours to get out of PIR anyway! Any estimate on cost? And also will they have the frequencies listed there?

Thanks again!

At Michigan, they had the frequency numbers at the souvenir trailers for sale! I'll get you the link for them in a second of Jayski's site! ;)

Sorry....I can't tell you a price.

I have my own scanner.

I do believe that they have the frequencies printed on a SINGLE piece of paper..for sale at the same trailers that rent the scanners...for the small price of $5.00.

That's why I print my own list and take it to the track with me.

sremmaz

Justin - most of the rental places will have the scanners pre-programmed for you and the scanners have the names on the channels. I think they were around $35-40

And yes if you bring your own (or borrow one from Radio Shack :) - the frequency sheet usually is only $4-5

Here is a very good article about the status of NASCAR!!! Makes you think what are they doing!!

CONCORD, N.C. – Some of the nonsensical decisions NASCAR makes are enough to lead someone to drink.

But when common sense gives way to dollar signs, the end result can be as intoxicating as going down to the corner tavern and getting totally plastered.

And that seems to be exactly what will happen next season.

Saturday's Charlotte Observer reported that NASCAR likely will drop longtime restrictions banning the participation of hard-liquor manufacturers as sponsors.

Excuse me while I reach for my aspirin. I feel an ugly hangover coming on.

How can a sanctioning body that recently penalized its biggest star 25 championship points and $10,000 for a cursory slip of the tongue allow products which intoxicate those who consume them?

How can NASCAR approve of companies that manufacture tobacco and alcohol products which undeniably have led to the deaths of millions of people via agonizing battles with cancer, deadly fires and innumerable fatal car wrecks?

How can NASCAR's top officials look themselves in the mirror and not see the hypocrisy of allowing hard liquor after they have penalized Dale Earnhardt Jr. for uttering an ill-timed four-letter word?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. After all, what would you expect from a sanctioning body that evolved from drivers and their souped-up cars running moonshine and eluding the cops during the Prohibition era?

I challenge all those Yahoo! Sports readers who emailed me in the last two weeks blasting Junior (and me for supporting him) for his human indiscretion to try justifying what NASCAR reportedly is considering. They can't – because allowing whiskey makers into the NASCAR corporate family is far worse than Junior uttering the harder version of the word "crap."

Let me see if I have this right:

It's OK for NASCAR to have a cigarette company hold series sponsorship rights for its top stock car series for more than three decades, using Winston's millions of dollars to build the foundation for what has become the nation's No. 2 spectator sport.

It's OK for Cup racing's minor league to have a beer company hold series sponsor rights since 1982.

It's OK for NASCAR to allow alcohol-laced lemonade or malt-liquor products to plaster their names across the hoods and fenders of race cars.
Still, NASCAR chairman Brian France and president Mike Helton slap Junior for a word that was used solely in the heat of human emotion.

Am I missing something here?

The Observer's report by Jim Utter said several teams, including Richard Childress Racing and Roush Racing are "primed to sign deals with hard-liquor companies, including Diageo and Jack Daniels."

I can just hear broadcasters now: "Here comes the Jack Daniels Chevrolet." Or how about the J&B Ford? What about the Johnnie Walker Dodge?

Will it soon become respectable to sell shooters at racetrack concession stands?

It would seem that exposing kids to alcohol products on a weekly basis either in person or on TV is more acceptable to NASCAR than an ill-timed cuss word.

Granted, NASCAR has been nothing short of genius in attracting unconventional sponsors like the U.S. Army, Viagra, Hooters, Prilosec and Betty Crocker to a sport in which success usually means a yearly team budget of $15 million or more just to be competitive.

I groaned when Roush Racing introduced Viagra on the side of Mark Martin's No. 6 Ford a few years back, but it has proven to be a marketing bonanza for Martin, Roush, Viagra and NASCAR. The chuckles and nudges have given way to one of the best teams in Nextel Cup racing.

But by bringing in hard-liquor companies, is NASCAR about to sell out what little dignity and class that remain in its soul? What's next? Allowing sponsors who manufacture legalized marijuana for consumers who need it for medical reasons?

For all the rumors that have been flying, NASCAR is keeping confirmation under wraps.

"We are currently evaluating the policy we have in place regarding liquor sponsors, but no official decision has been made at this time in regard to any changes," NASCAR spokesman Mike Zizzo told the Observer.

There is some precedent if NASCAR indeed allows hard-liquor companies into the sport. Crown Royal now sponsors the International Race of Champions series, taking over this year from longtime sponsor True Value.

I can understand manufacturers of hard liquor wanting to advertise their products. But what I can't understand is that if NASCAR is so concerned with promoting family values and touting its drivers as upstanding role models, how can it sanction products that religious and moral groups and parents who are trying to raise children the right way are sure to criticize?

It almost makes acceptable what Junior said after winning at Talladega. Or to use Junior's own word, when it comes to going to lengths to find new sources of revenue, maybe NASCAR just doesn't give a s---.

Don't have to worry about that one. One way or another A.sscar's gonna have one of their two golden boys win it. Either with a slew of illegal parts that "mysteriously" pass inspection, OR whoever does end up in 1st will have something "mysteriously" wrong with their car and conveniently get docked just enough points to screw them out of the title.

It's happened before (ask Jack Roush), it's setting up to happen again.

I started a new card collection today. I am going to try and collect the entire 2004 Press Pass Autographs set. Not the Press Pass Signings (thats too big like 80 cards) but the white horizontal Autographs one - that was only available in the regular press pass product. It should prove challenging since there only appears to be 1 or so of each driver (if that) on ebay right now.. But should be a fun set to try and complete.

Here's one of the ones I bought tonight. - I currently have 8 of the 62. I have B. Bodine, R. Crawford, N. Jarrett, J. Johnson, M. McLaughlin, and D. Setzer...

This should be fun - decided to focus my collecting on one particular set - so when I am done I can have it framed/matted all as a set... Should be cool.

That was bad deogg. Stan Hill finally has a good game, and they flat out lose it for him. Josh Davis dropping those touchdown passes, the idiot fumbling through the endzone. That game should have been put away early 3rd quarter. Akron deserved to have that one after how Marshall played at the end. Time to look ahead to the next few seasons. We aren't used to losing around here.

At Atlanta, Jr was running 3rd with 14 laps left, when he got overconfident and crashed into Carl Edwards, and wound up finishing 33rd.The difference between finishing 3rd and 33rd is 101 points. He is right now 72 points behind Elfy. You can do the math :(
