I was hoping that Busch would slip and say a cuss word in the post race. Just kidding, I wouldn't like a win like that. Congrats to Busch and Rousche. I wasn't a fan of the new points system, but it made this last race so exciting. If every season is like this, then keep that system. Hopefully next year Gordon or Johnson will win it. Only 13 more weeks until Daytona festivities start.

ActionMcFarlane opens up the garage and rolls out its NASCAR Series 5 lineup, featuring five of today's top drivers, one NHRA living legend and one commemorative figure for a racing star who left us all too soon. Here's our field of seven:


Martin Truex Jr. -- The son of a talented driver has been adopted by racing's first family -- competing in the 2004 Busch Series for Teresa and Dale Earnhardt Jr's Chance 2 Racing team, while also getting two Nextel Cup starts under his belt.

Davey Allison -- The #134 Havoline car saw 19 checkered flags in its eight-year career with Davey Allison behind the wheel. Part of the famed "Alabama Gang," Davey thrilled fans with his one-two finish behind his father, Bobby, in the 1988 Daytona 500, before winning NASCAR's biggest race outright in 1992. Davey Allison was taken from us in 1993 following a helicopter crash at Talladega Superspeedway, but his memory lives on -- including a spot in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

John Force -- Funny car legend John Force won his 13th NHRA POWERade championship in 2004, while increasing his career victory total to a head-shaking 114. There seems to be no end in sight for the sheer dominance of Force's #1 Castrol GTX Start Up Ford Mustang.

Dale Jarrett -- The UPS car delivered a season-opening victory at the Bud Shootout in 2004, the 20th season in Jarrett's stellar career. The 88 car amassed five other "Top 5" finishes and earned the 15th slot in the final driver standings.

Kevin Harvick -- The 2001 NASCAR Rookie of the Year just keeps getting better and better. Harvick finished 14th in the 2005 Nextel Cup standings, while turning in five "Top 5" and 14 "Top 10" finishes.

Casey Mears -- After training in the Craftsman Truck and Busch Series, Mears made his presence felt during his second full season in the Nextel Cup Series. The 41 car won pole positions at the Pennsylvania 500 and Brickyard 400 in consecutive weeks and turned in a season-high fourth-place finish at the Sirius at the Glen race in August.

Tony Stewart -- The 2002 NASCAR champion continued to tear up the track in 2005, winning the Tropicana 400 and the Sirius at the Glen races to help qualify for the first "Chase for the Cup" and finish the season in sixth place overall.

New procedure for Daytona qualifying


January 20, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The unique qualifying format for the season-opening Daytona 500 has been given a facelift.

The front row for the race Feb. 20 will still be locked in after qualifying. Other than that, it's an all-new procedure for setting the starting lineup for the NASCAR Nextel Cup event.

Series director John Darby announced the changes Thursday, noting that the top 35 in last year's owners' points are assured a spot in the 43-car Daytona lineup. The order will be determined by qualifying on Feb. 13 and by twin 150-mile qualifying races on Feb. 17.

Darby said the starting order for those races, each extended by 25 miles and renamed the Gatorade Duel, will be set by qualifying. The top 35 in points will be divided between the two, with the teams finishing in odd-numbered positions in 2004 in the first race and the even-numbered finishers in the second.

Teams that didn't finish in the top 35 will make the twin lineups by virtue of their Daytona qualifying.

Starting positions in the 500-mile main event will be determined by results of the 150-milers.

Filling out the lineup will be the top two non-top-35 finishers from each of the twin events and the remaining fastest drivers from qualifying.

NASCAR previously announced it has eliminated the use of provisional starters in 2005 and will assure the current top 35 in the car-owner points of making each race. The rest of the field at events after Daytona will be filled through qualifying speeds.

The 43rd spot in the lineup will be held at each race for any former series champion who is not among the top 35 or does not make the field by through speed. At Daytona, that option probably will not be needed because all the active past champs except Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott, who are not entered, are among the top 35.

My uncle (who got me into racing) is for the most part done collecting Nascar stuff (still gonna follow the sport, just not be buying as much stuff). With the exception of a few Mark Martin things (his fave driver), and all of the Bill Elliott (my aunt's fave) and the late Alan Kulwicki (another fave of theirs) stuff, he is giving the whole shebang (rough guesstimated 95% of the total collection) to ME. Cars, transporters, display cases, figures, cards, all I have to say is OOOOOOMMMMMMGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

This is like the haul of all hauls! When it all arrives, there WILL be pics!


Now, I just have to find enough shelving!!!! :D

Hate to burst your bubble.........but there is absoultely ZERO 24 and 48 stuff (my uncle hates Gordon almost as much as I do). There MIGHT be a signed Baby Ruth car from when we all met Jeff (WAAAAAAY back in the day), but I'm not sure. There almost definitely WON'T be any 48 stuff in there.

Actually ex, I think I have a JJ car from when he was in Busch. It came boxed on top of a box of Excedrin (his sponsor at the time). If you want it, if I can find it again, it's yours.

I'm hoping the display plaque of signed cards is amongst the stuff coming here. It's like 30 cards in card holders and put in a disaply plaque, including Martin, Jarrett, Rusty........oh, and a little guy called Earnhardt.

I was thinking, will there be a new thread started for the 2005 Season. Seems only right. New season, new thread. I think we should have one of our 2 unofficial most frequent visitors to this thread (Dirty Mo Posse or Leafsfan1967) create an "Official 2005 Nextel Cup Thread" (in a couple weeks, like maybe after the Bud Shoot out), and we can then all shift our focus to that one. And whoever does it should post a link to it in this one, just to be sure, we all find our way there. But whoever does it, has to remember to change the title of the thread each week, to reflect the next race, in the title, as well.

2 year NASCAR fan, love everything about it. Picked it up from by Dad being a fan.
He's always been a Dale Earnhardt fan, so now we follow Jr.

Just an update to getting my uncle's collection (aka the Mother Lode):

My uncle showed me the 30 to 40 HUGE boxes full of stuff that's coming to me, all of which is NOT in "the shrine" :D Probably looking at a good several hundred cars (loose and carded) and a TON of transporters!

My uncle collected from early 1992, and back then he tried to get everything. So yes Posse and Leafsfan, there is almost certainly some Earnhardt Sr stuff!

I saw the movie while on vacation. There is one part where a tire comes off a car and the 3D makes it look like it is coming straight at you. I couldn't count the number of people who frantically ducked and screamed.

Walmart isnt always the best about sticking to release dates. I have found tons of things there that werent suppose to be out yet, but who knows. I havent seen them anywhere else. Amazon says it comes out on March 15th
