Rumoured Chinese Variant Spawn Series 1. Found One!

I have been collecting McFarlane since Young Blood and Wetworks.I remembered long time back while collecting the earlier series, especially Series 1, many variants were mentioned in this board. One boardmember was also selling his variants from Wetworks to Series 9 here but that was ages ago. I recalled a Chinese variant was mentioned but rarely sighted. Guess what! I came across this Chinese variant at a flea market last week. Going for only SGD$5.00 (USD$3.00). Wat a heck! I grabbed it and post it here for all to see. Those with any insights on this please give your views. I believe this variant was produced for Hong Kong market but not too sure.

ive also heard rumor and seen pics of this item. ive also heard rumor and seen evidence that its a bootleg sticker...ive never gotten a firm answer either way.

imo, both a real version and a bootleg version could exsist. id buy one either way!

Its real, Hong Kong had Chinese packaging variants for Spawn series 1-4.

I pretty much believed its not a bootleg. Mb someone who understand Chinese is able to translate what it says in the packaging. The Spanish variant is common. Bootleg Spawn figures are not common those days, unlike now where there are more bootleg Spawn. For example, 19 Samurai Series and recently the Spawn 7 Alternative Series Box Set appearing out again in the market. I bought one Spawn 7 box set that has an imprint stamp at the back dated year as xxxx07 (2007). Weird dude!

McFarlane staff already confirmed that the Spawn 7 Alternative Series Box Set was reproduced officially recently for the overseas market.

im not saying the figure is bootlegged...merely that the sticker wasnt an original sticker from the factory. i also said its highly possible you got a cool piece.

I've collect spawn since 1994,

At that time every spawn figs in Taiwan have that Chinese account sticker,

And you can see every Series1~4 figs have their own Chinese account stickers on package,

All of my spawn series1~4 almost have Chinese sticker on package~

These stickers are used for introduce characters and their ability or weapons.

Thanxs! Good to see n hear from the old collectors like Bonedust and Geo00009 who also started collecting Spawn like me ages ago. Taiwan? Spawn 7 was a reproduction? Been almost 6 years. If so, are they selling at retail in the US now like Walmart or Target? Chunks of them in China!:p That is why I presumed they are bootleg. Dont know why McFarlane reissue them now. But there is a difference in the paint job. Especially the cape colour and its position.

Nice collection of the oldies. I remember reading a discussion in a China's based forum as to the translation of Spawn. In Chinese, the chosen translation is "Reborn Hero" and some thought that it is rather inappropriate. I like it though.
