Got the Wii at TRU fresh off the truck this afternoon. Got the "Nutz" at the container store and the AT-AT I found at work.

I got sooooooooooooooooooo lucky! I went in trying to find S33 perhaps and I found a Wii just by chance. I asked the guy and he was like I have 3 in this box I'm holding. So I waited and got my late B-day present. Now all I need is 3 controllers, Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy.

the Wii is more for family fun as I do not want to be that 30 something guy that sits at home all day on my days off playing games. I didn't even want a game console but they had to go and make Mario Kart and well I was sold!

The Target I worked at got a bunch of Wii consoles for the last 2 weeks. Last week we got 24 consoles but have to hold them since it's on the ad yesterday. The week before that we got like around 40 consoles. Sold out in 2-3 days. Yesterday when I went to TRU at the time they open. There's like a line of people buying Wii consoles.

The Wii shortage is still going on. Did ya guys see the article from Epic Games guy. He said the Wii is like a Virus. It spreads. People come over, play yours, fall in love, buy the system, play Wii Sports for like 2 weeks, then never buy anything for awhile. It has a HUGE install base, but the # of games being sold is insanely LOW. I gotta agree. Granted it could "shift" after this weekend. The good and the bad. Good; Mario Kart is coming out. The Bad; GTA is 2 days later. I will be interested in seeing how Mario Kart does. I know alot of people who are putting it off. I plan on buying it, playing it for 2 days then giving my system and game to my younger sister.

Apparently the steering wheel isn't nearly as fun as you'd want it to be, but you can still play the game without using motion sensitivity, so it'll be just like old school Kart.

As someone who sells videogames, and has seen some interesting sales patterns, I can tell you that there's ALWAYS a ton of people to buy any big game, and just because Mariokart and GTA are coming out right next to each other, neither company is going to have a clear cut "win." We've got over 400 copies of each game coming (not including the special editions) and I guarentee we'll sell out of both.

Speaking of selling out, it's finally gotten to the point where it takes more than 3 hours for us to sell out of 100 Wiis. I was starting to get nervous for a while, I think we've sold over 10'000 of them at our location alone.

TRU are idiots.

If it was purple, then yeah, that's the GC controller. A lot of people use those with the Wii because they can't adapt to the new ones, and they're just so used to the GC ones. It was nice of Nintendo to allow so many control schemes, and even reverse compatibility with the Gamecube controllers. The Classic Controller is my favorite one though.

Also since you work at a gaming store I am looking for mario Galaxy used but in Great Condition and Mario Kart used but in Great Condition, once it is released.

We don't sell used stuff at our place, but you should definitely check out Gamestop or EB Games, they should have a lot of Galaxies there, and I'm sure the used Karts will start rolling in a couple of weeks after release.

I'm not saying Mario Kart isn't going to sell a lot of copies. It will. But would it have sold more if it wasn't two days ahead of GTA? Obviously. Anyone walking into a game store in the following week is gonna most likely pick up GTA if they have the two (wii and 360, or wii and PS3) consoles. Mario Kart launched in Japan and was considered a huge success at 300,000 (http://kotaku.com/379769/mario-kart-wii-sold-300000-copies) copies at launch. That number will mean nothing compared to GTA's launch and what some are banking being a bigger launch than Halo 3, which pre-order's alone toppled over a million. I guess we'll see what kinda numbers Mario Kart puts up in it's first week.

For a console that has double and tripled it's install base of it's competitors the attach rate is significantly lower. I know the 360 attach rate is still the best in console history.
