I am in the market for a camera and am interested to see what you guys are using. Post a sample picture if you can. I noticed quite a few nice shots on the board, especially in the random toy thread,

I've been using a 2 megapixel Canon Powershot A60 for about 5 years now. It's not the best camera, but any camera can take good pictures if you know how to use it. No specific lens or anything, jst a lot of trial and error. The girlfriend recently got a much nicer camera, an upgrade, but I still use the old one because I don't need my pictures to be super high res or anything. It's just for fun. Some older shots:

Oh, since this is a thread about digital cams.....I'm also in the market for a new one & now have the dilemma of these 2:
Canon 870 is ------------> Canon's always great quality pics
http://www.dphotonews.com/images/cms/canon_powershot_sd870is.jpg
Olympus 1030 sw --------------> this one's cool because it can go underwater
http://www.slipperybrick.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/olympus-770-sw-camera.jpg
So, which one should I pick??

Was just about to say, yeah, that is a really neat pic, rxsheepxr.
Myself I picked up a Canon Powershot S3 IS last year after deciding to go for a Mega-Zoom rather than a compact. I enjoy goofing around with options and taking photos a lot and it produces some great pics (I think at least).

I use a simple Kodak M853 8.1mp camera. Would like to get a nikon or something higher end one day but as rxsheepxr said it's if you know how to work the camera. Some sample shots for you. Sorry for big pics

The pic of the cars and snow was taken Christmas Day of this past year, off my 23rd floor balcony. I used to get vertigo leaning over the rail, now it's no big deal.

rx, that snow picture is great.
Here's some shots using XTI, I suggest you buy one great lens like an 18-200 instead of what I did, buy different lens and keep changing them:

I have a Canon Powershot A560. Macro works great and also face detection. I can shoot smooth video at 30FPS 640x480.
The drawbacks are that it doesn't have IS, so I might need a tripod depending on light conditions. Also, my model does not have a supported underwater housing by canon. You can have these features on the A570IS.

I use to use a Nikon D100 which got good results for a while. It's outdated now, but if you're looking for something dirt cheap in the armature level you can't go wrong. Both of these were shot using a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro:

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/6066/shukyeetsuizb1.jpg
Now I use a Nikon D300. The figure and the sign were taken with a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and the ballet was shot with a Nikon 80-200mm F/2.8 AF-D at ISO 1000:eek::

If you're looking for a point-n-shoot the canon G9 can't be beat. XTis are a good mid-range camera. I've seen some great stuff shot on them. You can go on flickr.com go to advance search and do a camera specific search. You can get a good idea what certain cameras are capable of there.

what are the best settings for indoor photos in terms of iso, shutter speed, af metering and other things i don't fully understand? :D
all i know is that low ISO = less noise but less light
for some reason every indoor photo i take comes out blurry or very 'soft' looking, verging on blurry.

I have the same Canon 30d, I love it, if I could only figure out all of the settings I'd probably like it that much better
I am thinking of giving my kid the 30d and buying a 40d (using the screen as a viewfinder is a rather appealing feature that the 30d doesn't have)
