View Full Version : A Logical Question

Why is it, that the latest Image solicitation preview for comicbookresources.com lists Spawn issue 183 for July, (Awesome cover by the way- but who is it? Wanda, Tiffany Nyx?) when we have only just got 177 for the end of April???!!!
The best case scenario is that we might be on 180 for July, but why can't image just be honest and say "yeah, sorry our bad issue 183 probably wont be out before September". Why preview comics that aren't going to be available in the month they list?

I am getting sick of Image treating its Spawn fans as if they are stupid.

Which brings me to an interesting side point, why change artist direction AGAIN when the reason your sales are slipping is 'cos you can't get an issue out on time??

My prediction for the future goes something like this:

Issue 200 New art direction announced to reinvigorate spawn and take it in a new direction!!!
Issue 210 New art direction announced to reinvigorate spawn and take it in a new direction!!!
Issue 225 New art direction announced to reinvigorate spawn and take it in a new direction!!!
Issue 239 New art direction announced to reinvigorate spawn and take it in a new direction!!!
Issue 259 New art direction announced to reinvigorate spawn and take it in a new direction!!!
And so on and so on.....

Does this mean however, that spawns story never actually moves forward, it just keeps getting retold in different ways?

I think it was Violator who said in the animated series "Stick with the F****** program"

(he may have said "get with the f****** program" but for the purpose of this argument i will pretend otherwise)

If you'd bothered to read Todd's interview where he talks about his reasons for the shakeup, some of your concerns would be addressed. As far as the solicits, ****ed if I know. What difference does it make?

I am simply trying to draw attention to the fact that Image are fricking rubbish at getting Spawn out on time and this why Todd feels the need to reinvigorate the book to draw fans in. Again. Whereas if the book were out on time there wouldn't be any problem with lack of sales, and we could all enjoy a continuous run from the current team. You may have noticed this if you had bothered to read my post properly.

Without a doubt, soliciting the book months in advance has proven to be a challenge for Haberlin which he acknowledged on these boards months ago.

As any comic fan knows these days, lateness is nothing new to any of the publishers, including Marvel/DC. It's the reason books in general have not sold as well as they did in the 90s.

Actually this problem was already discussed before, maybe you might like to check it out in the past threads. But anyway, I think what happened is that the solicitations are given way before the actual story is made hence when the story ended up taking much longer than expected or certain additional stories where made, the solicitations ended up far more advanced than the current comic. What they're doing now is not soliciting until the comic catches up.

I don't think its good for them to stop soliciting until the comic catches up though, since I believe that solicitations play a vital role in getting new customers to pick up the book. But I don't know a thing about how these solicitatons work and there might be payment involved in resoliciting or correcting the solicitations. That's how I understood it.
