That's hardly a rumor. I think it was on mlbtraderumors.com and all it said was Griffey's preference was Tampa. Nobody even knows if Tampa would be interested.

This has been talked about for a few days because Griffey said that if he is traded, he would want to be traded to a contender and/or close to his home (in Orlando).
If he is let go at the end of the year, he will more than likely sign with Tampa.

You are a little late on this one. There is already a story on reds.com with an official statement from Griffey's agent that neither he nor Griffey has made any statement to that effect and neither has been approached about a possible trade. Ergo, completly unfounded rumor.

Tampa won't take on his $16.5 million salary next year

He's not going no where they say that every year at the trade deadline.

I love Griffey but why the hell would anyone pick up his salary this year (Half of the $8.2 million he's making along with the huge buyout attached for next season ($4 million)? He's not good enough to play every day anymore and the Devil Rays already have Cliff Floyd who's 1/10 the price and does a good job of filling the role Griffey would fill. He's going to finish the year with the Reds because no one will take him.

If David Ortiz is going to be out for a longer period then 1-2 months the Red Sox may be interested in Griffey Jr as a DH also. Barry Bonds name had also been mentioned since he wouldnt cost prospects.
As for Tampa I think they should hold pat. They have good outfielders already. They shouldnt take on this salary AND give up prospects. They just need to go with what they got (maybe add smaller pieces) and see what happens. Then in the offseason try to improve even more with a trade or free agent signing.
Tampa already has Cliff Floyd from the left side and Johnny Gomes from the right side who can DH. They are good enough.

Griffey is an overpaid lazy dog. It's last thing the Rays need. No team wants Griffey and his contract. Reds would be happy to ship him out and pay most of his salary left. I still doubt any team would want him anymore. He can't run, can't field and is even a below average hitter now.

So has he trashed the idea of playing for Atlanta?? I know at one time he said he'd like to play there and god only knows they need whatever OF help they can get these days. Just slide Francouer over to CF and have Griffey play RF.
Out of all the possible teams Griffey has been linked to in the past Atlanta has always had the biggest need for him. Sure Seattle would be a nice feel good story but they are rebuilding so no shot a a championship there any time soon and Tampa really has a nice core of young guys and throwing griffey in there IMO would throw the balance of that team off and again a nice young group of guys but not likely to win a championship within the next couple of years. Playoffs yes WS not just yet.

You must not know who Ken Griffey Jr is. Im sure there are plenty of teams that would take him.

WOW!!!! The word lazy should NEVER EVER be in the same sentence as Ken Griffey Jr.
