Going to see a screening of Wanted tonight - I've been looking forward to this for a LONG time since I'm such a fan of the comic, but I have to say I know they're going to disappoint - the action looks great, but there's just no way they'll be able to get away with showing all of the stuff they did in the comic...

Anyway, who else is excited for this film?

I agree with that assessment, and that's why I'm reluctant to see it . . .

I didn't realize it was based on a comic until this thread. At face value, the movie itself looks pretty bad.

it's actually based on what I'd consider one of the best comic miniseries of the last decade...seriously. I'm not a superhero fan, so it was right up my alley... ;) :)

I'll post a bit of a review here tomorrow -

I loved Lara Croft in Tomb Raider; nice to see her in another movie. :p

I think this movie could hit or miss. The action looks really cool, but did we see everything the movie has to offer in the trailer? I guess we will have to wait and see.

I just can't watch anything with Jolie in it. I just can't get past her. Which is a shame because I'll probably never see Clint's newest.

i was reading a review somewhere else which basically went something like this (i cant find the review any longer):
"im a big fan of the comic, the movie isnt like the comic at all, regardless the movie is really exciting and great"

I'm going to see it. It went from looking totally ****ing ******ed to totally awesome in three trailers.

Still think the comic sucked though.

Ok - just got back and I'll have an official review over at figures dot com in a week, but until I get to do the "official" write up, here's what I've got to say..

if you enjoyed Timur's unique style of directing in Night Watch and Day Watch -- effects that blow your mind and camera angles that leave you wonder "how'd they do that?" -- you'll love the film's style. It's over the top and in your face (literally) and it's very well done - welcome to Hollywood Timur, can't wait to see what you do next...

As for acting, James has great presence and makes you really think a guy can go from complete p u s s y to gun-totin' badass in 6 weeks - hell, the guy was - by the end - down right hardcore and it was cool to see this guy do some great action acting...

Jolie is hot and while her character seems to take a walk from the character in the comic, she's good. Eye candy doesn't hurt and it actually helps you realize she's not *really* as tough as this, but if you believed her in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you'll have no troubles here...

Morgan Freeman is cool and does a great job too, though I would have liked to have seen him play a larger role and done a bit more acting...his part was pivotal, but small -

SLIGHT SPOILERS - nothing major - nothing given away that's not already shown in the trailers...

The story - oh the story...the comic is one of my favorites in years and while it's a great comic, it obviously couldn't be taken to the screen as it was - gone are the super-villains and the fraternity as you know it in the comic - the fraternity is instead a league of assassins which "kills one to maybe save a thousand" - fate crap - this is my only disappointment in the film - obviously the basis for the whole comic was the idea that there were bad guys and worse guys and Wesley had some growing up to do to fill his father's shoes - likewise, there's some bad guys and worse guys in this one, but the scales tip a little farther than they should have in the story and sadly it will disappoint some die-hards who (like me) really understood the comic's true purpose...

That said, it really does do a great job of keeping with the overall intention of the comic and the film's story - and especially Wesley's narration - leave nothing out. Even the first page from the comic is included and I stood up and cheered when they played it in the first two minutes of the film (I guess I was the only one in the theater who'd read the comic) -

Anyhow - over all, it was well worth seeing and I'll be buying it when it hits Bluray - can't wait to see some behind the scenes on the special effects and gun designs - some of the shoot-out scenes are not only intense, but damned intricate in the way they're choreographed - especially the "Wesley vs. 100" scene (which IS included, though in a slightly different manner).

8.5/10

This movie looks terrible on so many levels...

Explain said levels, because I'm tired of hearing that cliche.

Anyhow, the movie looks like some good R rated fun. Looking forward to anything directed by someone who's got the visual acuity to pull of the Night-watch series.
