Of the same figure that is? Reason I ask is, I came across a guy in the store the other day that had 8 of the same figure in his cart. I asked him if he planned on selling any of them or was using a few for trading. He told me that he always buys dobules/triples etc.. of every figure he buys. He described it as being a "kick in life" for him. Weird!

Just with the Spawn series where I (usually) buy one to open & one for the (moc) wall-

Generally speaking, no. But I may get an extra here & there if a want to customize a figure.

Depending on the figure. I mainly keep my collection MOC, but I often buy a second figure to open. Again, it depends on the figure and it's price

I used to almost always buy 2 of every fig... open one and keep the other moc.

But now i rarely ever keep anything MOC so I will only buy one...

however I did buy two of the Venom and Spiderman Muggs so I could get a set MOC

I sometimes buy two. 1 MOC and 1 to open.
He sounds like a toy hoarder who buys buys and buys hoarding figures.
I think they are worse then scalpers.
At least scalpers sell off their figures, these guys just hold onto them for no reason.
You also have those hoarders who hoard things they dont even collect because they
think they are "rare".

Very rarely, it has to be something I really really like.

8 of the same figure, that guy was probably lying to you, because most people don't like to admit to being scalpers.

I will sometimes buy doubles, if it is a line, or figure I am REALLY into, but it is rare for me to do so these days. Mostly though I just purchase one. Keeping it carded or not depends on the figure or line, but most of my modern toys get opened.

But sometimes I end with an additional figure.

Like I got the Ash figure and then had to bought Ash vs Pit witch

Army building figures or ones that I know people I deal with want, other than that, no.

Yes I do do buy multiples of figs that I consider "army builders"

For ex. I've now got 5 Narnia Minotaurs and plan on having about 5 each of Taurus and Aries too. -- I customize them so they don't look all exactly the same.

Yeah, I had some staff give me some dirty looks at a Walmart once a long time ago when I was buying 5 Dojos -- but they WERE all for my collection!

Yeah, he was full of bologna. I will very rarely buy doubles of something I really like, to keep as a back up in case one breaks or is hard to find. Like the Takara Batman Begins or some 25th Joes.

Yes, I usually buy more than one of the same figure. However, never do I buy 8 of the same figure. Usually I buy one to open and one not to open.

Hell no. Why waste my money on buying the same thing twice?

I only buy 2 of something if I really like the figure or if it's hard to come by (of if it's just very cheap). The 2nd is usually a "backup" so to speak in case the first one breaks or gets lost or something.

I fairly recently stopped doing that since I'm leaning more towards customizing now.

If I like the figure/set, I buy one to keep MOC.

If I think the figure/set is extremely cool, I buy two so that I can open one and keep the other MOC.

I mostly buy two of everything. One to open and one MOC.

It's harder lately because everything is so ****ing expensive.

But, I still army build the **** out of storm troopers and Joe figs.

If gas gets to $5 a gallon, that will have to stop.

I mostly buy singles and then open them. My favorite is to get loose completes off the bay but getting a good deal can be hit or miss. I think I would like dealing with boardies but I am kind of reclusive. Maybe it is time to come out of my shell and earn a good rep around here.

When I can afford it I buy two collector clubs. I sit on the closed one for a year or two then make a decent profit most of the time. I try and do the same thing with variants when I bump into them -- especially female figs. I <3 cleavage! The other MoC for me is my local NBA team but that is only a handful of figures so far. The rarer the figure the harder it is to keep closed for me. I opened a Black Mandarin with the toy show and import sticker after all. If I had known it was going to be available thru the CC I would have waited and snagged another.

I tried my hand at army building but eventually decided all my clone troopers had to go. I put them all in a lot on bay and made some lucky guys week. I would love to get all the different Omega Squadrons thou. I have #2. It is hard as hell to get people on ebay to tell you what number theirs are. Most the responses I get are that our inventory comes from a distributor and we can't check. Shoddy customer service if you ask me... How hard can it be to fire off an email? The only valid excuse would be if there is a language barrier and I assume that is probably the case.

Nope.....

But sometimes I end with an additional figure.

Like I got the Ash figure and then had to bought Ash vs Pit witch

I lucked out and got my pit witch loose on ebay. Then a few months later my Ash fell over and his chainsaw snapped. After that he had such a falling problem, eventually I just leaned him against another figure. Maybe if I had gotten an extra it would have stood properly.

If a lot has enough figures I need I'll gladly throw the extras in storage. For example I have had a few Samurai Wars figures break wrists or lose a piece of armor. Luckily I had ended up with some extras in some lots and I was able to piece together completes that were in better shape then the first one.

Same here. I usually buy one of a figure, but will consider buying two of the same so that I can open one. I don't have many duplicates, so I very seldom see something that will prompt me to buy a second. I don't count variations as duplicates, because I have a few variations. Don't know if that needed to be said or not. :haha:

Usually I just buy one to open, but lately I've been buying two of any TMP fig I want, and 2 of any really important fig from anywhere else. What's important to me is the paint app. From what I've seen in person in the last year, TMP has been getting really sloppy. When I order online, I order 2. That way I have a better chance of not getting a messy fig. The extra I sell, trade, or give away to friends who see the opener and comment how awesome it is.
