View Full Version : Who would go for a non transformable Transformers action figure line?

I know it defeats the purpose but a highly detailed action figure line dedicated to them being in just robot mode.

Sound good?

Um, no. They have tried this and it failed. Miserably. Twice.

First was the action masters back in like, 87 or 88. Pretty much the death of G1 transformers in my opinion. Then they tried it with Robot Replicas with the movie line last summer. One wave, 5 or 6 figures, and they are still shelf-warming in most areas. The only other option for a non-transforming transformer would be a statue, but those tend to get pricey. I think they should bring back the Alternators line, keep them larger and more detailed, and charge $30, but give us a lot more new molds and characters from other lines. Alternators movie Bumblebee anyone?? You know, Ultimate Bumblebee but without the stupid electronics and gimmicks.

McCheif FTW. I concur. Alternators rocked and I didn't find this out until they had already killed the line.

Exactly. (Although they're only around 6 inches tall or so.)

If you take the transforming out of transformers you are left with ers which doesnt make a good name for a figure at all not to mention that the main selling point of transformers is that they well....transform it would be like making a robocop figure that was actually a hobo or not even a robot you just have to stay true to the source material in my opinion

Good characters don't need any transforming gimmick.

Transformers just aren't good characters.

They also did this with the movie line. While they were fun, the mainline movie toys were convincing enough as posable robots.

I wholeheartedly agree. I would friggin' LOVE for them to bring back the Alternators line. Those figures are damn near impossible to get for a reasonable price.

Anyway, I only like Transformer statues and the Revoltech figures. Otherwise, a lot of the "non-transformable" TFs just look kinda weird. Some aren't bad, but most are.

aren't the unleashed line also non-transformable?

I would. From the movie. I give a crap about G1 figs. And I'd like something a little higher quality than the Unleashed crap.

Lets just say, Hasbro can not be handled with non transformable figs. I like the revoltech figs I just think the size sucks.

i'd be all for it, i usually only like 1 of the modes anyway, love a lot of the TF statues that have been made over the years

I would, I like the G1 characters just not the G1 toys so the majority of my collection is Masterpiece, Alternators, Classics and busts.

They did it way back in 1989. I got Jazz, and he had a skateboard that transformed, but he didn't. That was pretty much the last time I saw Transformers in stores for years too. So it wasn't a good idea.

I'm okay with it provided it has McFarlane's sculpting quality and is based on the movies.

Well I liked all the Heroes or Cybertron figures, the G1 Robot Heroes and I plan to pick up the Revoltech Figures as soon as I can.

Yes I would buy up ML style renditions of all the G1 bots.

As the main line, it would fail quite spectacularly (as it did with "Action Masters"), however as a side line the concept of non-transforming Transformers figures can do quite well. The Revoltechs mentioned (and shown) above are really well done and fun. The current "Robot Heroes" line shows that non-transforming representations of TFs can sell and even this past year's movie PVC figures were nicely done as well. From about 2003-06 the "Heroes of Cybertron" line did quite well too with small 2-3" representations of popular G1 characters. This line was recently given a limited re-release in specialty shops.

Unless if it was Mcfarlane's Transformers then that would be different.

I'm all for it the Action Master were the best of G1 IMO. By not Transforming the toys looked more like their cartoon counterparts. I still have all of the US Action Master the UK ver are a pain in the neck to find and can be very pricey.

Note: They came out in 1990 not 1987. The Headmaster came out in 1987 not the Action Masters)

Those of you who have no idea what the Actionmasters are look them up on Wikipedia. The Marvel comic story was pretty cool and Grimlock took center stage in the storyline as a pose to Megatron who was the focus of the toyline story.
