Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

So about a week ago I bought my first Turtle, Donatello, from the new N..A line I said it before that I hated that company, but these figures are just awesome! I really LOVE my Donatello, I carry it around in my shirt pocket, I play with it, yeah I really PLAY with it, I take him with me to work, it's in front of my computer now facing me, and as I'm writing this I realize that it might be 'cause of my childhood, see as a kid I was a HUGE fan of the turtles back in the early 90´s who the hell didn´t love ninja turtles?, now today that I'm 24 I find myself laying on the floor playing with it like a kid.
Don't know what happened to my old turtles figure collection (I had the technodrome!) I really miss them now.
Am I the only one here that does that? hmm... I think so :)

I HAVE been watching TMNT stuff on the Bay a lot more now that I picked up the NECA boxed set. I'm considering picking up bits and pieces of my old collection again. Pretty much just the basics tho (the main characters, and possibly a Turtle Lair).

What I really want to do is find the 4 carded NECA turtles, and put them on display with my copy of the TMNT #1 comic book!

I switched the Leo and Dons head too. The closed mouth Turtle head looks better on Leo imo. Ive been thinking of painting those bandannas too. :)

I think I had over 100 turtle figures as a kid, the only one I still have is Leatherback. I dont think he was in the comic, but him and The Rat King would make some cool figures.

Most people will look at it that way, and so much the better. If it sells some extra Foot Soldiers, it's a successful marketing ploy.

But for clarity's sake, that's actually an Utrom, an aquatic alien race from the TMNT comics that had a hand in the turtle's origin. They were benevolent, and became allies to the Turtles over the course of the series (returning in the current Vol 4, where they migrate to Earth and live peacefully with humanity).

Krang's design was developed based on these creatures, but was called a disembodied brain. Like I said, most people will assume it's supposed to be Krang. But officially, it won't be.

According to original comics, they were all red. They were only distinguished by the weapons they used. It wasn't until the cartoon made its appearance when they decided to give them different colors.

Yeah, I'm 25 and was a MAJOR Turtle fan myself. I think I went as a Turtle (RaphaeI) for Halloween like 3 years in a row. I still have all my old TMNT in storage, the Technodrome, the Sewer Lair playset, The Partywagon, the Blimp, all of it. Its nice to see it come back again. Now if we could get some good Ghostbusters stuff, I'f be set.

Leatherhead was a pet alligator, flushed down the toilet (so goes the Urban Myth), who happened to wander passed the turtles as they crawled around in the ooze. Mutated like them, but not taken in by Splinter, he was found and raised by the Utroms during their stay on Earth. Somewhat mentally unstable, he was accidentally left behind when the Utroms transported themselves back home.

The turtles discovered him in the sewers sometime later, and after an initial scuffle, they try to help him build a Transmat device to join the Utroms. Eventually he took up residence in their old lair, and his mental instability caused him to turn on them. later

So yeah, he's an ally of sorts, when they do what he needs them to. But when they screw up, he's mercilessly cruel in his misguided "revenge".

How can I hate NECA? well man because I began collecting with McF (seriously collecting) and then out of the blue this new company gets all the licenses that todd should have, to me McF is still the BEST toy company 'cause they care for detail just look at the military line or the sports figures, it's not a perfect company but is the best, while neca is more "lazy" not too much detail and a bunch of innecessary accesories with each figure
I know it's an important company BUT I will not forgive them for kratos NEVER!!!, medusa´s head looks like a decapitated sex doll, the tattoo paint is terrible, the articulation looks so bad,also the devil's rejects figures are crap (only tiny looks decent), 300 (leonidas!!), Grindhouse, Kill Bill (the bride omg), Sin City and now they got the watchmen license!!!
C'mon!!! these licenses belong in the McF territory, these licenses demand detail, ya know that's why I hate neca.

If the line lasts long enough, I certainly see that happening down the line. After April, Casey and Splinter, there aren't many other characters from the early days. A wave with a Triceraton, Leatherhead and a full-bodied Utrom would pretty much finish off all the big characters from the first 10 issues.

Unless Neca manages to wrest a Cerebus license off of Dave Sim... then I want Renet the Timemistress and Savanti Romero!

lets not forget one little thing about TMP and licenses - either he didn't care enough to get hte licenses you wanted, or the licensors didn't care enough about him making them. N took what M didn't care for, and made great stuff out of it. How many licenses has M bothered to get in the last few years? Their focus was more on in-house. And now realizing their mistakes, they are trying to get back into licenses. Halo is a great grab for them. Let's see how many more they can nab.

Worms, not bugs... but yeah. TMNT has the (probably) unique distinction of offing their lead badguy in the first issue. Then, they had to try and retcon that so they could use their awesome villian again. But after one issue with Shredder having returned, Eastman and Laird decided to stop doing the book together, leaving that very large mystery unsolved.

A year or so later they did "Return to New York", where the Turtles (for no real reason) decide it's time to get revenge on the Foot, attack the compound, and kill the Shredder clone. The other prototype clones included one with lobster-claw arms, one with 4 arms, and one small-fry.

Those three clones would make a nice set, along with Lawson-based turtles from Issues 19-21 (The Return to New York arc). But after we get the big names from the Eastman and Laird era.

I'd also add Renet and Savanti Romero, from the time-travel stories (Issues #8, 46, 47 and Tales #7). But if you wanna get obscure, there's anynumber of interesting characters. Chote (lizard-thing from Fuedal Japan), Complete Carnage and Radical (Mirage's resident Supervillian, and opposing superheroine), The Justice Force (Stainless Steel Steve, Metalhead, Zippy, Joey Elastic, Battling Bernice, and Dr. Dome), The Shredder Clones, Casey Jones could come with a little Shadow (his adopted daughter).

Really, a *lot* of options, not all that would sell well.

The Shredder looks great, but there's something wrong about his helmet.
The cutout for his eyes is too small and should have a more angular shape like a "V".

Blast 'em with a hair dryer for a minute and pop those suckers off. Then wait for the necks to cool off, soften the heads again with the hair dryer, and shove 'em back on.

Nice, how'd you avoid painting over the black lines?
And can Game's Workshop paints be mixed to make different colors? It'd be quite expensive to buy every single color, heh.

i remember when i used to watch the videos they had of the show at my video store, and i just loved them, I used to have these exact figures, all of them, some miniture ones with robot things, etc, but when your a kid, you dont realize and important childhood toy until after its gone eh? Hehe, i probnably threw it away after my old dog chewd it up or something, cause most toys i still have from my childhood, including some batman figures, about 100 pounds of lego adn K'nex, etc. And who here hates the newer cartoon version? the original was the greatest.

Well, I used Games Workshop paints and they went on so smoothly, you barely even needed a second coat!

I just painted carefully enough to leave the black lines that were already present on the bandanas. It takes a steady hand. You don't have to do it that way, though. You might get some better help from someone else about the type of brush to use.

I'm certainly no artist, either, but I like the way they look.

Hopefully someone else can help you more than I did. Good luck, though!

I broke down and bought a set, but not the set with the bases. :( I couldn't find that one anywhere so I bought Turtles in Tubes, heh.

custom colored the bandannas and light post.

I used acrylic paints. First thing I did was cover the eyes with tiny bit of gum but I HIGHLY recommend you use some sort of puddy instead:o. I then very carefully painted over all the red on the bandannas (even covering the black lines). Once it dried I would add a second coat, only Michelangelo needed three coats. Once it was totally dry I took the gum(puddy) off and drew in the black lines using a very thin artist inking pen. All I did was fill the creases of the bandanna to help me draw the lines. I then used a fat permanent marker to finish the outlines on the tails of the bandannas. Lamp post I just painted over everything but not sure If I'll attempt the lines that were drawn on there before, the lamp itself I just painted the sections yellow that was easy.

Oh yeah, I also switched heads to make Ralph and Leo be the tough ones with snarls.

Really cool to see how everyone does this. I used Folk art acrylics Painted over the whole mask, very steady hand and very slowly. Michaelangelo needed about three coats the others not so much. Instead of drawing the lines back on I drybrushed LIGHTLY black onto the masks.

i really love this COMIC turtle line, kinda a shame everyone feels the need to do bandana repaints on their sets. What im really hoping i see is a figure of Raph from the Bodycount series, doesnt get much cooler than this imo

I dont think repaints would necesarily fall out of the realm of the comic licence becuse its still using the same likeness. they can easily just say its a variant or something, and by the way we've been getting Wolf Predator variants every 3 months I wouldnt be suprised if they ended up doing so

Neca's been mum since the summer. Word around the TMNT boards (Technodrome.com, among others) is that Playmates got it's panties in a wad over a second company releasing TMNT toys, even though the target markets are completely different, and Playmates hasn't really put out a legitimate toyline sine the Movie.

All rumors and speculation, at this point, but Neca's silence since showing us the second wave prototypes (which were supposedly rejected by Mirage because of their paint schemes) is probably not a good sign.

The ones included do work but it would be cool if Leo could actually point his swords infront of him, Mikey could hold both 'chuck sticks in one hand, and Raph could hold the sai's between his fingers without it looking silly.

And I downloaded/youtubed some of the 2003 series, I'm digging it. I'd buy season 1 and 2 for cheap if I run into a good price. I remember watching a few episodes years ago but not most episodes, I enjoy the slightly darker tone it has. That solo episode where Raph helps that kid out with the mobsters is simply awesome.
