Well, I just talked to someone in Oxnard, Calif., site of Cowboys training training camp, and Smith's name has already come up in conversations. But something tells me we won't see this discussion on HBO's "Hard Knocks" on Wednesday.
Yeah because it never happened.
The Cowboys do not have the cap room to pull this off even it was true.

well I dont know what I can say, but I have noticed that the Cowboys sign players to long contracts like 6 or 7 years which makes it easy to spread the money out. We have also been cutting people or trading other for draft picks.

It won't happen. The Panthers are gonna ask for a king's ransom for him.
Guys, face it, we aren't getting Smith, we aren't getting Boldin, we aren't getting Chad, and we aren't getting Roy Williams. TO, Crayton, and Hurd are our recievers, and quite frankly I'm confident with that.

Except, Randy Moss was chasing a ring on a team that had a very good chance of winning one, not an organization that hasn't won a playoff game in 12 years.

blah blah, The Panthers are going down...Cowboys are going up ^^^ Also the Panthers dont even know how there QB is going to do now after his injury and they dont want to be messing with the actions of steve smith. Now if Smith wants money then he wont be on the Cowboys radar. But if he wants a ring and changes his contract then why not?

The Cowboys had to redo Hamlin's measly $4.5M franchise price to $2M just to free up space to sign draft picks. Mid July they were $10M under the cap w/ 6 draft picks unsigned.

Eagles can afford him.
I don't get it. You have one elite receiver and you're grabbing at another one. The Cowboys are taking two pieces of cake instead of one. Teams like the Eagles need a piece of cake, or a receiver for that matter.

do we need to be literal on this website all the time. You know what I mean by the statement. Everyone is just shooting it down because it is not going to happen. But what I'm trying to say is it is possible for the cowboys to land him if they wanted. Everyone forgetting that we just release Glenn? who we had signed through the 2010 season? That gives them a little cap space. Also you honestly think the Panthers wont want some type of player in return??? Which coult possibly free up more cap space.

What are you going to trade a high priced player from a different position to get a another player at a position you are already stacked at. Doesn't make much sense.
Player for Player trades rarely happen in the NFL. Hardly ever one w/ High salary players like Smith. Carolina doesn't have a first round draft pick next season, so "IF" they were going to trade him, which they're not, thats most likely what they would want, at least.

The scenario that is more likely to happen is this:
Javon Walker decides he IS going to retire and give his signing bonus back to the Raiders. The Raiders then use the signing bonus $$ and cap room to sign Steve Smith.:p

Yes, Vegas placed them as having the 2nd best odds to win the Super Bowl because in fact, they do NOT have a very good chance of winning one. Vegas is always tricky like that...swapping favorites for underdogs just to keep bettors on their toes!
Seeing as though almost the entire roster has turned over from 4 seasons ago, I don't see what your comment has to do with much of anything, but that's not too surprising considering the source.
sigep001

Obviously this trade isn't going to happen because I agree with whomever said the Panthers have more reasons to keep Smith than trade him, but since when does cap room keep NFL deals/trades from getting worked out.
Players restructure their contracts all the time (converting salary into bonus money) so that the cap hit is spread out over multiple years. It's not that hard to find cap room if you dig hard enough.
Still, Smith is a Panther...not really worth talking about.

Right, that's why you should compare a team with a puppet coach, a quarterback who folds like a cheap tent in a storm come playoff time and a defense prone to the big play to a franchise coming off of multiple Super Bowl victories, with a star QB who performs in clutch situations, a coach who (cheating or not) is a proven winner and a defense that has won them their fair share of games.
But no, Vegas says that this situation is EXACTLY like Randy Moss playing for the dynastic Pats.

1. Who the hell cares about the coach? This team is too good for even Jim Zorn to screw up.
2. Romo the holder screwed up the 1st game. He's not the holder anymore. The 2nd playoff game was a team effort in choking (Crayton is the one who stands out in my mind for his drops and for quitting on his route running).
3. The defense was upgraded pretty significantly - healthy Greg Ellis, Zach Thomas over Akin Ayodele, Pacman Jones over Jacques Reeves, Michael Jenkins over Nate Jones, etc.
I wasn't saying anything about the Moss situation. I was saying that a Redskins fan acting like the Cowboys are in complete shambles doesn't surprise me. I was just pointing out that acting like the Cowboys are not the favorites in the NFC because some Cowboys teams over 5 years ago weren't successful in the playoffs is simply ******ed logic. Why stop at 12 years then? Only because it serves your purpose. If everyone (or anyone) on the Cowboys had been on all of those teams going back 12 years, it would make more sense.

In a word, No. The Panthers aren't stupid enough to trade Steve Smith. This is likely another result of rampant journalistic speculation and nothing more.

there is no way Dallas could buy Steve Smith. He won't restructure his asking price and Dallas would be over cap by adding the high profile receiver. Its possible Smith could be with a new team this season...if that being the case, Carolina will rank 32nd in total offense this season. But I doubt Smith leaves the Cats this season

Typical ESPN staffer, trying to drum up a story, out of another story, and all it really is, is nothing more than a bona fide rumor.
The guy's an ESPN BLOGGER for crying out loud. He's a NOBODY. But all people will remember is....."I just read on ESPN.com that the Cowboys are going after Steve Smith."
Chalk this up to yet ANOTHER reason why I hate ESPN.
Not just ESPN, Yahoo is also reporting a similar story just minus the Cowboys.

Actually now that I read a little closer it looks like Yahoo is just referencing the same ESPN Blog.

I for one would hate this trade if it ever happened!!! We don't need anymore drama on this team!!!! Just wait until next year and make a play for R.Williams from Detroit.

That's what I like about Cowboy haters. They start out with "Stop living in the past" and then immediately go to "Haven't won a playoff game in 12 years". Sorry haters, you can't have it both ways. You want to talk about 12 years ago then we will talk about 13 years ago (and 15 and 16 and so on....)
