I'm awaiting a package from the US (I'm in Canada) and it's being sent via UPS. The seller gave me a tracking number and said it should arrive on Friday. I went to check the status a while ago and it updated itself at 12:30am EST with this:

WINDSOR,
ON, CA 21/08/2008 0:30 THE RECEIVER HAS AGREED TO ACCEPT THE DELIVERY CHARGES

Receiver has agreed to accept the delivery charges? Does that mean when I receive this package, I have to pay an additional fee on top of shipping?!

It either means that when the guy shipped it, instead of them paying the shipping, they told UPS that you would pay it, or it's a brokers fee.....

So it's not an additional charge to me when it arrives?

Both possibilities are additional charges to you.

Either you're paying a brokers fee....

or you were ripped off for the cost of shipping, and get to pay it again. (and possibly the brokers fee on top of it)

He's in Canada.. and yes, in Canada you have to pay a a customs brokerage fee to get your package from UPS... I don't remember if you get a slip and have to pick it up, or if they bring the package to you and you have to pay them at the door.

That's why a lot of Canadian's hate the spawn store... ;)

The brokers fee is a coin toss if they charge it or not ( usually do with ups & fedex... not that often via post office)

They bring it to your door.

And yes, we do hate the spawn store... ups cross boarder shipping is obscene, regardless of the broker fee ( which McF pays for )

Crap ... I had the package sent to my friend's house. Now she's gonna have to pay that on my behalf.

Call UPS and see if you can straighten out what's what, and get a total due... then just give her the money to pay it.

Ya I'm gonna try and do that ASAP. What are the possibilities I won't get charged?

I've ordered from the spawn store several times and never had to pay customs/brokerage fees.

Was this package from the spawn store though?

slim to none if they said you'd pay the shipping

If it's the brokers fee, I think there used to be a way to get a refund, but I'm not sure if they still do that.

UPS has a brokers fee chart...
http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html

Which is crap, since I was charged a $30 fee for a declared $10 fig...

Methinks they misread a decimal point on that value...

It was an AUTOart car I won off eBay. I already paid for shipping and the seller knows it.

I've never seen that, but I remember that it's incredibly hard to ship something COD.....from what I remember the sender has to actually still put some deposit of some sorts to cover the expenses of the shipping company just in case. Something like that....?!?
I think what you're seeing there is the original shipper might have used some 3rd party company to do their shipping & it's that broker that assumes all cost of shipping this item to you in behalf of whoever's sending it.

McF dealt with this after several years of basically US only CC exclusives..
No longer any brokerage or taxes...
That is why my 1 set of SDCC Halo only costed me $23.92 to get to me

Yes you have to pay, both Shipping and Brokers\Customs fee's....what UPS also does is overvalue the item so you pay more in Brokers\Customs fee's....there slimes and what they are doing is illegal. This has been an ongoing issue with UPS shipments into Canada for a while. What you can do is tell them not to clear it, go to the terminal and clear it yourself...I have done this before and while it's a 2-4 hour ordeal it usually ends up costing you nothing. UPS is the worst and have stopped using them.

So much for Free Trade and shipments between our countries.....

That's supposed to apply only to products made in Canada or the States.

You guys got your figures so soon! I ordered on the 12th and 15th....have yet to see either of them.
