I did it. I chocked up my pride, and bought the WM exclusives off Ebay. $56 for the both of them. ****ing ****** bags. I swear, scalpers suck monkey nuts. I'm so pissed at myself right now, but I know if I don't buy em now they'll go up after their gone from stores. God this sucks.

Ah.. the old scalper argument, eh?
Think of this before you condemn scalpers...
The ones you bought off ebay... is the seller in your city? (propably not)
What are the odd he bought them from a store near you? (slim to none)
Can you find anyone selling them on ebay who is from your city? (not likely, but possible...)
If the answer to the above 3 were "no", then either your local walmart didn't get them, or "real collectors" bought them for themselves....
If the "scalper" you bought them off of didn't buy them to put on ebay, then you still would be without. (since he likely didn't buy them from a store anywhere near you, so if he left them on the shelf, you wouldn't be the one to get them)
The "scalper" is giving you a chance to get some figures you otherwise wouldn't be able to get.
Are their prices high? sure... but you're not being forced to pay them... it's just an option you otherwise wouldn't have.
Trunks3540

It was an ebay store...
And I know they're coming in eventually. My WMs had 16 on order for 2 months, still nothing. So they will be here, but I might miss them. I just feel horrible, cause I'm supporting the scalpers.
Would you guys be pissed if I found a bunch, and bought them for boardies, but charged like $15 or a little more per figure just to get my money back? I mean, I'm not saying I will or w/e, but I just wanna know what you guys think.

You could charge whatever you like... nobody is forced to buy them from you.
You might not get a lot of sales, since the spawn store will be selling them soon for $10 each..... but you're entitled to put a $150 price on them if you like.

Or you could never see them locally, and not get on in time to buy them from the spawn store....
Either way, if you've changed your mind about buying them, simply don't pay..... sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore, so screw it.

This store, said
"This store requires imidiate payment. If you do not pay immediately, your items may be bought by another customer."
They had like over 600 posative feedback though, so it wasn't like they were a bad place. Basically I already paid. BTW those were the CHEAPEST ones on Ebay. I'll be happy when they come, but right now I feel like crap. Thanks guys, figured I'd get your opinions.

that righgt there is a HUGE red flag.
When the auction is over, it's over... are they listing the same thing multiple times or something?
Trunks3540
08-21-2008, 01:31 AM
Nope, they only had one up. And the store had over 600 posative feedback, so they're not prone to screw people over. After I saw that pay now thing I checked. It was 97.something % posative out of over 600 feedback. I won't buy under 95%. And like I said, it was a Store, not a guy by himself. And if I get screwed, I'm out $60 lol. But I can always go back to claims, and I save all my ebay reciepts till I get my stuff in the mail. I'm real paranoid bout buying stuff online, and this didn't give me any bad feelings. But I've been wrong before. Not like I can do anything about it now anyway.

Anyone who goes to the store before a lazy person decides to get up around noon or 3pm-ish and go, and buys the last one of what the lazy person wanted is... by the deffinition most used by whinners... a scalper. after all... that person MUST HAVE bought ALL of them.
A secondary example of a "scalper" is when a store doesn't get something in at all, "scalpers" must have gotten them all.
Basically, whenever you can't find what you want blame a "scalper". (even if it's a really high "in demand" item, and you decide to wait 3 or 4 days after release and then go in the middle of the afternoon only to find them... sold out  )

3rd definition is a person who buys all the hard to find exclusive items that they buy and then sell at more then what they paid for it, and buy them ALL so no one else can get them at regular price, and usually have to resort to buying them, from said person who bought them all, or someone like them.
Unless that was the 1st definition, cause I didn't understand it lol.
And I know it wasn't a scalper at my WM, they just haven't been in yet. But I know of a few scalpers around here, so they will most likely get them before I would anyway.
Ebay right now, cheapest sets for 1 of each WM exclusives cheapest was what I paid. Some bid wars went over $100 a figure. The person selling them paid $10+ tax. And bought every one of them on the shelves to sell, not leaving any for other people. Hence the animosity.

Scalpers are also known as flippers. They buy figures with the express intent of flipping them for a short-term profit and engage in a behavior pattern where they try to make a moderate to premium profit through selling a portfolio of items. They may lose money on each deal, they may take home 300% it's ultimately up to the buyers, however scalpers are able to somewhat influence behavior by creating artificial shortages which lead to irrational behavior on the part of buyers because of how it can play on perception.
Some scalpers have regular routines and times they hit up a store (7am when the store opens, 1am when they pull out the pallets, etc.) while others just hit a toy aisle on a whim. Some scalpers are your stereotypical fat, greasy guy who's trolling for T-Hunts while others are white collar guys who pick an item here and an item there and then go home to flip them on eBay. it's hard to spot a scalper in a store in the middle of the day, but if you know your local flea markets and toy shows and you know who is and isn't a dealer then it becomes a bit easier.
MM likes to defend the behavior and trivialize the situation by trying to portray them as a faceless and imaginary boogeyman. He, along with Hydraspawn feel that those who aren't willing to beat a scalper at their own game are "lazy" folk who don't wake up until noon who "whine" that they can't find the one item they're looking for because without scalping. they also like to defend those who scalp stuff they don't even collect because it "helps pay for their hobby" or because "it helps people out who live elsewhere and don't have access to the stock, as long as they have the money"
according to them, if you're not there when those cases hit the floor, you're either "lazy" or you "don't want it bad enough"

The simple fact is that scalpers are scum of the earth who anticipate and watch out for popular figures to be able to buy up every single figure through various stockboy contacts before any hard working nine to five collector has had the time to get to his nearest store to find them on the pegs so the scalper is then able to put them on eBay as soon as shortages arise so he can charge people what he wants because true collectors simply want that item, sure they can choose to not buy it but you can also choose to stop using toiletpaper because it got more expensive and use newspapers instead.

And by your first post I quoted, to a lesser extent in favor of it, even if your not involved, since it's his money to spend on whatever the hell he likes....
All I have to do now is get you to admit that scalpers help people locate stock they normally wouldn't be ale to ( ie: store exclusive for a store nowhere near them, and nobody on the boards seems to have for sale) and you'll have the exact same opinions as the rest of us "pro-scalper" folks. ;)

how is it based on weak logic. Do you know anything at all about outsourcing and how it has changed our economy over the years. It is a personal choice to try to stimulate our economy. Michigans economy has been destroyed by outsourcing, so maybe you just might want to think how states are affected differently by different situations. Walmart has helped to close probably 70% of our small stores in every area from groceries to clothes. So I might have a different view of them as a store than you. I don't assume to know about Texas. Does that make what I say wrong, I don't think it does.
Here is some info. If you would like more read some of the published books. They have helped hurt our economy by outsourcing for the cheapest products.

You are applying this to buying scalped figures on Ebay that came from if not China, Asia (I know they are not the same) via Walmart. This is where your logic falters. If the seller bought the item from WM then by proxy your money is going to China via WM!!! I don't need to understand your whole thing here to know that you are missing the point, ok? And my answer to you is pretty simply encapsulated in Penn and Teller's Walmart episode. It's on iTunes, but your probably anti-Apple too.

I dont sell figs, so dont point the scalper finger at me ... but is it scalping if you start your item out at a low price, around or lower then the retail value and it escalates to an obscene amount in bids?
I think that's hard to determine. Most scalpers will buy the item and put the starting bid at the price they bought it, or slightly lower, knowing full well the bid war wil go far over what they paid. And Ebay sadly, is mainly 2 types of people selling on there, Scalpers to make money, or people who just want to get rid of some old stuff.
I'm not sayin that's ALL of ebay, but aroud 90% or so of the people on there are in those catagories.
I really didn't post for the criticism, more of a redemption thing, cause I felt like crap supporting the scalpers of the world, so I just wanted some ressurance that it wasn't like I killed someone, cause that's what it felt like, sadly. But I'm kinda over it now, I just think it's kinda funny the direction the topic took, so I'ma sit here and watch it go on lol.

So you're in favor of scalping, in theory, as long as you're the one doing scalping.
And by your first post I quoted, to a lesser extent in favor of it, even if your not involved, since it's his money to spend on whatever the hell he likes....
All I have to do now is get you to admit that scalpers help people locate stock they normally wouldn't be ale to ( ie: store exclusive for a store nowhere near them, and nobody on the boards seems to have for sale) and you'll have the exact same opinions as the rest of us "pro-scalper" folks. ;)
No, still hate scalpers. I never scalped a toy in my life and don't ever plan on doing so. I'm a business man with a real business. I don't get up at the crack of dawn and hoarde toys at the local stores. Like I said, if they want to help a fellow collector, then they would charge only what they purchased the item for.;)
well i had 1 of each and i was going to keep them and open them then i had some bills come up toy pay with no $$ to do it so i had to put mine on the bay!
