HALO SERIES 3 - MORE Images/ First Thoughts

Woohoo! Series 3 is on the way, with another micro rundown here courtesy of advance review samples from McFarlane (thank you!) Again, FULL review and a gazillion new images to come later (next week), but for now, here's the good, the bad and the ugly... but mostly the good:) Feel free to ask questions and scroll on for a quick look at the 6 figures I received. NOTE: All feature 10 Halo Points now.

*MASTER CHIEF v.3

PROS: Finally a reason to buy the MC again: SNIPER RIFLE and SPIKE GRENADE!!! Both look killer and are extremely welcome weapons. Also, right hand has TRIGGER FINGER!!!

CONS: Sniper Rifle is FRAGILE. Scope popped right off when removing, but nothing a dab 'o Super glue won't fix. Ditto for small bi-pod legs...they swivel, but they also come right off. Recommend: Find spot ya want them in and glue away. Includes 1 peg.

Spike Grenade also does NOT include peg or peg hole so no way to stow it on back. Another easy fix (glue peg to grenade handle).

*ELITE COMBAT

PROS: At last, a TRUE Elite! While Arbiter was a must make, this is were the real action is at. GREAT armor design and construction. Duel Plasma Rifles are another all-new weapon in the line and look awesome. Look forward to new armor classes here.

CONS: Not much bad about this fella. My main beef is with the dully painted Plasma Rifles, both an extremely dark and flat purple. Recommend: Quick repaint with glossy, shiny purple. 2 pegs are included.

* ROGUE SPARTAN [OLIVE]

PROS: A sweet new Spartan armor permutation. Love the color too. Especially dig the BRUTE SHOT!!!

CONS: The Brute Shot:( Has ONE handle to grasp it by - that little, fragile thing on top. Mine snapped right away trying to get it in his hands. Glue to the rescue... There is NO place for his other firing hand to grasp. It just kinda sits next to it. VERY ODD. No peg or peg hole on weapon.

*JACKAL MAJOR (the Ugly!)

PROS:Yes! An energy shield! Snaps on wrist easily and stays put. GREAT closed mouth head sculpt.

CONS: Balancing issues like first Jackal. Recommend: A DISPLAY STAND.

*BRUTE WAR CHIEFTAIN

PROS: Another hulking Brute fig. HUGE. Includes awesome Fuel Rod Cannon. Awesome armor design.

CONS: Cannon is a PAIN to get in hand. Can not, save the life of me, get his other hand to grasp the bottom of weapon... big bummer. Arm articulation does not allow it. No peg or peg hole on weapon.

*FLOOD COMBAT FORM [human]

PROS: Nice to see the Flood introduced into the line- nice army builder. VERY cool twisted design. SMG is HUGE bonus - another new weapon! Plan on taking his SMG and the one from my pre-order and giving them to a MC for dual-wielding action. Floods will get those SMALL BRs from Series 2:) Shocked that a Flood Carrier Form is not being introduced in Series 4, or even better, a regular 'ol UNSC Soldier!!! MUST HAVE....MANY. Combat Form includes a plain black display stand due to his top heaviness. It's welcome... wish Jackal had one too.

CONS: Limited articulation. Points include: swivels joints at HANDS, ELBOWS, WAIST, UPPER THIGHS and ANKLES. It isn't much - certainly not Spartan level - but you can still get some cool poses.

Alas, no Hayabusa, but my Series 3 pre-order should remedy that:) Anywho, there's my rapid fire first impressions. Some small quibbles this time around, nothing that can't be fixed. Overall I am just excited to see all-new figures, weapons and races being introduced. Best series YET. Fire away with questions after the pictures....

They are the same as the other 2 assortments... lighting my friend, lighting. Elite has some sheen to em though, sparkly :) But yeah, they are pretty much the same, I shot em in the dark and ya wouldn't see them:)

I've also changed my tune a tad on the Flood (mini-review above HAS BEEN CHANGED). After fiddling with him some more (I literally just got these a few hours ago) you can get some really contorted poses (mainly with the two arms). Having no ball-joints hurts him, but it would have hurt the sculpt. I'm sure with your customizing prowlness Jin, ya could get him hyper-articulated:)

You guys are killing me:) But that is a good question. Let me see...YES...but EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Telling ya, that Brute Shot handle on top is FRAGILE. Snap-o-roni delicate. And there is NO PLACE for the other hand to grasp. So at the risk of breaking it again, I managed to gently squeeze it into the Brute's grasp. Because of his articulation, however, kinda hard to get his other arm/hand around to "pretend" like it's holding it at the body. See below. Still not tooooo bad. That's good, cuz he is keeping it now:)

Cool! Thanks for the review & pics, Gonzo22. Its a bummer that some of the figure's weapons are fragile (especially the Brute shot), I'd better watch out for that.

Out of ALL of them? Humm, kinda partial to the Brute Stalker. CQB and ODST Spartans are close seconds. Gotta love those cute lil Grunts, so I'll rank them third. Really need more of them. Love 'em all really... haven't been this addicted to collecting a toy line in YEARS.

Slowly planning this HUGE diorama (talking pool table size) I'm gonna build to hold them all fighting. Mostly an open field dealio - rocky terrain, a hillside, sand, etc, with some barbed wire, broken down concrete bunker, etc defending this Forerunner communications tower dealio. Getting the pieces together now, but taking my time to do it right. That BELIEVE diorama really got me inspired (and taken aback). Won't be nearly that cool, but it will be cool:) Lil mini battles all over - on the hill, Flood coming out of a door in the hill base, bunker raid, tower, behind it. Got it all planned out.

Yes and yes, though the SMG is a tad loose in his hands. No problemo on the Spikers.

nice pics and reviews.. does that little circular thing in the middle of the Brute shot swivel or anything? That's where the one had is supposed to hold onto.. but from the looks, there doesn't seem to be a spot, maybe it swivels sideways? I'm gonna check the game real quick, see if I can get a snapshot of a brute holding it in-game.

Here ya go.. the best I could do.. I'm guessing the fingers just go in those small little circular areas in the middle of that circle thing.. That's why that Spartan has that newly sculpted "open handed pimp slapin' action" hand.. do the fingers wedge in those little circle things like the picture above?

Not really... the ruts are not very deep. His "pimp slappin" hand just kinda rests on it. Holds it OK (most of the weight is supported by fragile top handle hand), just kinda surprised there isn't some sort of handle.

Very Nice Pics, I can't wait for the Full Review on Figures.Com (I persume you blog on that site considering The Font and Background and what not are the same as the Figures.Com Page)

My only real complaint is the fact the Elite has no Pupils in his eyes, I hope that its just a mispaint like your Jackal. I also bummed that the only wep the Rogue can really hold is the Brute Shot, but meh its no crysis.

Now whether to get Castle Crashers or the rest Series 3 (I'm already getting the Elite as soon as i see it in the Shops.)

wow, I can't say I'm too pleased that the Elite is that much bigger than Arby. It's not just the armor. The body itself is thicker. Look at the thickness in the arms alone.

it doesnt bother me too much because they fit in the spartans hand and it just shows the true sixe of the elites and brutes

Size of the figure doesn't matter, if they're going for in-scale figures the weapons should all be in scale too. There's no way that the Spiker and PR is that big in H3.

the spaiker grenades are huge in the game they are like 3 ft tall. oh and have you watched the live action films they are big in that also

if the made the weapons for spartans they would be smaller likes the br is smaller for the odst and the plasma pistol is smaller for the drone

yeah the weapons in halo 3 vary in size depending who is holding them, I once put at spartan holding a rocket launcher beside a rocket launcher I was holding as a monitor in Forge... the one I was holding as a monitor was much larger than the one the spartan was holding. Crazy huh?

Bungie already said before H3 shipped that the weapons on the ground are a tad bigger than the ones you're holding, they did this on purpose so you can see them better.

Thanks for the post and replies! The Brute Shot and Sniper Rifle aren't sounding so cool anymore. A little better QA work, McFarlane? And those Plasma Rifles definitely need luster.
