I remember when Halo was about to come out and I was anti-Xbox that I looked at a bit on it and laughed it off as a joke. Then one day I played it and haven't really put it down for any majorly extended period. The universe has significant potential for the same type of EU vibe that helps drive SW.
The story, though panned by many, actually has some deep plot points that could be delved into in future installments be they prequels or sequels and it has its own Clone Wars type of event that could be exploited.
And the scary thing is that it's not even a movie. This all comes from a video game. I think that if it could be turned into a film, it could be fairly successful. The Dark Knight successful? IDK. But it would be nice to see it turned into a gritty R rated film even though I know they'd PG-13 it and tone down some of the dark stuff.
Though... if they did it as a FF Sprits Within or FFVII: AC type of animation I'd probably be just as happy.

I think Avi sums it up very good....
I feel that Halo is becoming the Star Wars of the game universe and if it crosses the realm into film and done right.... Oh watch out! This could become a major phenomenon!
Halo is here to stay....:)
And for the record... I love SW too! ;)

I agree that Halo will never be bigger than Star Wars WAS at it's peak, but I think we can all agree that Star Wars is over the hill and on the decline. I have always been, and still am a HUGE Star Wars fan, but it's time is waning.
Halo is awesome, and they continue to add to the monster with great books, comics and now toys. If the new Halo Chronicles with Peter Jackson and Halo: Wars are as good as they are supposed to be, Halo will the only serious contender to the Star Wars crown.

I didn't say it was dead, just not what it used to be. Lets all be honest, the Clone Wars movie was fun, but the voice acting was terrible. I will watch every episode, but it just doesn't have the same punch it used to. I will reserve judgement on the live-action movie when we get some real info. A Boba Fett TV series could really change my opinion, but I don't think that is where they are going with it.

Yeah, as soon as the Clone Wars gets going, Lucas is supposed to start production on a live-action TV show based on side characters between episodes 3 and 4. Most fans are hoping for Boba Fett, but last time I heard there was no definitive answer. Should air in 2010.

It's just too bad that George Lucas has been raping his own creation for the past 6-7 years, to such an extent that the question must be asked; will Star Wars ever be the same after George Lucas is done turning his own property into one long toy commercial with no soul?
The reason I ask this question is that it's obvious Halo has more heart and soul just as a video game than all three of the recent episodes (and the recent animated movie) have combined. Moreover, I'd love to see what Halo could do as movie property. Star Wars, your days are unfortunately numbered.

Of course Halo won't be as big as Star Wars.......
The only thing that might compare is Star Trek, and that's because of years of TV, Movies, Games, etc.....
But Halo is definitly a hot topic now. A good movie from a good director can start to make a bigger comunity.......so far they have the game, figures and other stuff.....

on the decline? It has been 30 strong years, Halo will be done in a few years.
My kids 7, 9 love Star Wars, too young for Halo. Halo targets mostly males, age teen - early 30's. Nothing wrong with that, just that Star Wars has been around forever, and probably will be, so long as they continue to make movies, cartoons, figures, etc. and attract young audiences as well as old.
Just my opinion.

Actually, i would really like more Legacy of Kain games... there so sweet.... Though i have to say, Halo could be Star Wars Big, but not all the way, I'm expressing Huge interest in the Halo: Fall of Reach Movie supposedly planned, which would be great for me. But im not into Star Wars as i used to, the Clone Wars movie killed any intention of me watching the series, seeing as i cant stand the way they did the dialogue, which was nonstop, no pauses like there's supposed to be, just a straight skip to the answer. Im more interested in Halo right now. Its really the first thing i actually liked without someone telling me id like it. Halo wont die in my heart, even if it does for the millions of posers who only play Halo 3.

First off, I was the first person to mention Halo would be the next Star Wars.
Second off, I'm a big Halo fan boy, through and through, I bleed Green for MC.
And now on to my points.
Halo is the SW of our generation. Star Wars will stand the test of time for at least another 10-20 years to come. But it will never have it's ginormous glory it did way back when. It will probebly never be toppled as the longest, biggest, baddest saga EVER. But, Halo will give it a run for it's money no doubt. Halo's already been around close to 6-7 years (forget when the first one was released), with plans of a movie, more games all the way through to 2011, and figure planned at least till the end of 09, more then likely longer. Halo, even when dying down, will still be big with all us people who have been there from the beginning (and I'm sad to say I wasn't one of THOSE, but I have been around for a while). So Halo vs. Star Wars, Star Wars wins, but Halo will be a good close second. And it will be the Star Wars of our era.
As for Star Trek, some people have no idea how big the fan base was. ST is probebly the second most popular legacy under SW to this day. Too many action figures to count, at least 5 series, and a cartoon (although short lived), and I lost count of all the movies. I think they're close to or above 10, with another along the way, planned for the end of the year-summer of next year. So don't shoot Star Trek down. It's just not as big as Star Wars was either. But really, can anything ever beat that behemoth? I doubt it. And it wasn't bad. I personally liked it, with Voyager being my faveorite series.
Will Halo beat Star Trek? Maybe... but it'll be a while.

Eh, my take on it is that eventually the people who grew up with it in the 70s and 80s were inundated, but the kids of this generation aren't going to get that same slackjawed feeling from it, and so eventually the fandom is going to die out-granted, it'll be when most of us are dead or have grey hairs on their head. Something will replace it. Might be Halo, might be something we don't even know about right now.

I don';t think Halo will even be close to Star Wars. Star Wars videos lasted forever, because the DVD sets only started coming out a few years ago. So parents passed the love of Star Wars onto their children, who then passed it on to their children. That won't happen with Halo because the X-Box is already null and void, and how long until the 360 is null and void? Video games always have a new fad coming out every few years or so, but classic movies last much much longer. Thats why Halo is not Star Wars

My grandma has been passing Star Wars VHs's down the line forever, my family is a HUGE collection fo Star Wars, Star Trek, and Halo ( for the 20 year olds and below) were just a couple of geeks, my great Grandma (82 now) has EVERY SINGLE release of Star Wars on VHS and DVD, All Star Trek Movies, all of Star Trek , some of Generation (none after that) adn a crap load of star gate, Battlestar Galatica, etc vhs's adn dvds... god i love her.... But my point, everyone will and does know what Star Wars is, same with Stark Trek, Halo isnt at that point jsut yet, as most parents see a game their kids play, they dont look at the storyline, the books(got my grandma to read them, she likes the story alot). With the movie of Fall to Reach, if it makes it past development, and turns out good, will probably shine the light onto what is Halo. And most of the devoted fans are from the original days(happy to say i am), not the new kids, we will be the fans who create vast conventions jsut for it.... and as said before, it wont pass Star Wars in its Prime.

How can Halo be the SW of our generation when SW is still out?
Define ginormous glory and way back when. Do you mean since 1999 or the 70s. The PT movies pulled in over $1 billion domestically since 1999.
Halo figures planned until 2009, Hasbro will still be making SW until 2018.

MC is the posterboy for Microsoft. They anounced there will always be a Halo game, of some shape and form, on the XBox consoles. Just like Nintendo has Mario, and Sega had Sonic, so Master Chief is to XBox. It has been confirmed in multiple interviews, both printed in Game Informer and posted on other gaming website. Most of these interviews started over the rumors of Halo 4.

Doesn't matter how much money the new films made. It was bigger in the 80's and 90's then in the 2000's. Remember, ticket prices as well as video/dvd prices have gone up tremendously since the original SW. And SW is more of an older generation saga. Anything new coming from SW that's gonna be big is gonna be directed more towards the kids, who most of will eventually grow out of it. The new "movie" (pilot for the new series) flopped, for lack of a better word. It didn't do as horrible as some flops, but for the die hard fans, it was lacking in alot of different ways. So now they direct it at the children, the little children. Most people between the ages of 14-25 know Halo, and when the movie comes out, it'll be even bigger.
I never said Halo would beat Star Wars, that's impossible. But it most likely will take a good second or third place behind it. Which, with everything coming out today, is gonna be pretty damn good (Batman anyone?)
And McFarlane only showed us the figures till 09. They'll probebly be making them for a long time after, especially if there's a movie, and more games. They will find a way to keep revamping the stuff, JUST LIKE Hasbro does with Star Wars. The only reason they made so many figures and its lasted as long as it has, is because they have a bunch of different outfits for each character, for the different ones they had in the movies, more characters to work with, and a much bigger EU to work with. Plus they are redoing the OLD outfits they already made, just with new poseability, which will make all the die hard collecters buy the same person, basically the same figure, again, with new joints. And I know army building is a big thing as well. You wanna ***** about buying repainted figures over and over? Look at the clone troopers.
I'm a huge SW fan, don't get me wrong. I love the stuff. And I have a ton of the figures, and buy more as they come out. But it has gone downhill, especially since RotS came out. That was supposed to be the end. That was supposed to be the completion of the saga. Now Lucas is trying to milk it even further, and it's starting to backfire. If he woulda left it alone, where it was, still making the figures, still allowing the comics and games and figures, no new "movie", no CGI show, it would be doing much better. If he keeps going he might kill it himself, by making some piece of crap that totally destroys the entire foundation he has built. And don't get me started on the inconcistencies that already exist in their universe...

Well, I don't really like sales figures for determining the decency of a movie. Attack of the Clones has a top 20 box office rating, and it was absolute trash. I believe that Halo is the Star Wars of this generation. THE REAL STAR WARS, NOT THIS PT TRASH, AND NOT THE ANIMATED TRASH.
If we do want to go by sales, consider that Halo 2 and 3 had bigger opening days than any of the Star Wars movies. I don't though, because movies like The House Bunny beat out movies like Traitor every day in sales. The screaming masses have no taste, and they just watch what they are told. When it comes to Halo, that same affect happens. Let me explain my view on it:
Both Star Wars and Halo have a fair share of people who just watch the movie/buy the game because they are sheep, with Halo probably benefiting more from it. If you ask a gamer if they like Halo, chances are that they will say yes. (There are of course PC exclusive gamers and PS3 fanboys, but think of them as the Star Trek Fans).
I will be daring and say that the video gamer is the new age Sci-Fi nerd. I don't really see many younger "Nerds" who don't play video games, my self included. The fan base behind Halo is big. Big enough to rock these forums just because of a simple action figure release. There are many people MORE devoted to Halo than Star Wars, thanks to the failure in the recent decade. People like myself, who grew up watching the movies (and are still fans) have kind of lost hope that anything of even decent artistic quality will emerge from that franchise in the coming years (save maybe a good story or two from things like KOTOR, or a EU novel).
Halo is my Sci Fi trilogy now, and Star Wars is just a set of DVDs on my shelf.
I know that the idea of this rubs people the wrong way, because many of us have been collecting and supporting Star Wars for years (including myself...Star Wars Miniatures anyone?). I hate to see it "dethroned" from the top of the mountain, but lets face it, everything that is being released from Lucas anymore is just a commercial product. It is like the people making it have no love for it, and are trying to find a way to sell more toys/merchandise, instead of movie tickets.
Thanks, that was my $.02.

Nice commentaries on this topic by both Trunks3540 and Mongerty! After reading the both of them, I simply wanted to sit back and clap! Very well written! I agree with what you both are saying!
I too grew up on SW and now obsessed with Halo! I guess I was a nerd back then and a nerd now (just a little grayer). I admit it... And I'm not afraid to show it since I own alot of Halo swag! Hell, I even wear a Halo watch to work!
Halo is this decades SW! And I don't foresee it going away anytime soon. With my Halo collection growing by leaps and bounds, just imagine what it'll look like in another 5-10 years. Especially if, er, "when" the movie gets made and its really good!

I never jumped in the figure collection those days......and I liked the first three SW movies......
In fact, the only figures I have now are some Unleashed and a revamped of the first big Stormtrooper.....

I like Star Wars, like I said. And I'll prolly watch the new show, and buy the CG movie when it hits DVD. But I'm not bending over backwards to get the new figures, or see the new movies, or even buy the new games. I am doing so much right now to get my Halo collection soildified. I've made so many friends at TRU, WM, comic shops, on here, just to get the exclusives. Something I'd never do for SW.

I have some anime stuff, but I don't like it as much. I'm sticking to the Legacy stuff, and comic packs. Maybe some of the Evo packs.

First off, the first clone wars show was anime to me. And the second clone wars (the new one) I don't feel like spelling out animated lol. So it'd anime to me too. I'll refer to it as SW anime 9 times out of 10.

I think they call it "Clone Wars: Animated". I may be thinking of Transformers... But anywho, I'll keep calling it anime SW.

now THAT'S a rant I wanna hear :D
I don't wanna get into that. The blantently obvious one stems from RotJ and RotS, when Luke asks Leia bout her mom, and Leia says she remembers her a lil bit, but she died when she was young. Then Lucas kills her before Leia can even make a coherent thought... The list is too long, and I haven't read enough of the EU to make a good long rant about it. That's just the beginning from what I hear...
