I've been registered at CallOfDuty.com for a while, and I just got an e-mail with a redemtion code to download the World at War Multiplayer Beta over X-Box Live! Its downloading now. Check your e-mail!

As for the gameplay. It plays exactly like COD 4, from the control setup to the class set up, exactly the same. Even the Russian voice announcer was taken straight out of COD 4. Most of the old perks make a come back, including the dreadful martyrdom perk. There are many more new perks as well as a new perk class for vehicles. the weapon set ups are the same as COD 4 weapon set ups, including attachments. The radar is in and exactly like COD 4. At first I did not like it, but it was explained that there are recon planes giving away enemy's positions, so I'll let that slide. Beside the game would not be fun if I were to have a hard time looking for enemies, because they are hard to find to begin with.
Three kills, the recon plane reveals enemy's positions. Five kills, you get artillery. Seven kills, you'll have to see that yourself, it's a nice surprise. ;)
The only vehicles so far are the tanks and I hope it's just the tanks, because they are simple enough and they make the game interesting.
The maps are very nice and beautiful, especially the Japanese maps.
The sound effects are incredible. The guns don't sound like hollywood guns, but more like the real thing.
The graphic is incredible. When your player's model gets hit by an explosion, body parts flies off. So it's pretty gruesome.
You may complain that it's yet another WW II game, but you will miss out a lot, especially multiplayer. While it does play exactly like COD 4, it is an improved version of it with neat additions.

Yeah, well said man. I played it way too much last night. I kind of wish you could start with the old Garand, and M1A1 along with the Thompson, but oh well.
Oh yeah and the best part about multiplayer? On the American team, you have a Kiefer Sutherland sound a-like voiceover screaming at you. I wonder if it really him and if it is, I want him in a war movie, screaming out commands at his teams.

Haha, yeah I noticed that. The German voice gets annoying REALLY fast though.

Yep. In fact, it is much brutally gruesome than BiA. Now you'll not be able to stop and see the details in the middle of a gunfight, but you'll see it when your guy gets blown up. This may be a different case in Single player where you can stop and exam the bodies.
A few more things to add.
The last stand perk has a new addition. You can heal other teammates who also has last stand and fallen to it.
Martyrdom is back, but it cannot be unlocked in the betam so I don't know if any new improvement have been made to it.
The flamethrower, also cannot be unlocked in the beta, is in a perk category rather than a weapon category.
There are three grenade types now rather than just the frag grenade and they are : Frag, Anti Tank Sticky grenade in the shape of an apple on a stick, it can also stick to enemy players. Molotov ****tail.
The special grenades are : Poisonous grenades that stuns and blurs your vision, this is the equivalent of the stun grenade, except that it actually works for once.
Flare sticks that blinds enemies & when used at night time maps, it reveals where the enemies are. it also acts as a beacon to indicate where the enemies are. The flare is the equivalent of the flashbang grenade.
Smoke grenade. Nothing new.
The rifles has a bayonet attachment.
The rifles and semi auto rifles do not have silencers, but they have flash suppressor. Sub machine guns do have silencers. The rifles, semi auto rifles and sub machine guns all have cross hair attachment similar to the red dot attachment in COD 4, but of course with a design modification to accommodate the time period.
When you are killed in the water, your body sinks first and then floats back up.
I noticed that not one spot of the map is not wasted, meaning that players will be in every nooks and crannies. For example in COD 4, in pipeline. There are more areas behind where the british starts at the hill and as well as the back of the train yard where the russians starts and yet most of the time nobody goes there while these spots served no purpose. Here in WaW, I found myself and other team members using the edges of a map to take advantage of for cover and for flanking.

I officially love the sticky bomb. And being able to carry bazookas to take down tanks is sooo cool.

Ok, ok I'll be nice. The 7 kill streak is......a pack of attack dogs. They change the way the game is played. If you and your team members are very coordinating, you will all stop focusing on the enemies, group up in a small room to watch each others backs as you hear the barks get closer and closer, getting ready to kill or be kill. Of course this is the opportunity for the enemies to take you out when you are most vunerable. If you and your team however do not coordinates or if you are stuck with idiots, the dogs will surpirse you when you least expect it. When the dogs are out, it forces the players to use up the nooks and crannies in the map i mentioned early, making that particular area useful rather than useless.
The best part however about the dogs when you have them on your team, with extreme condition, you can follow them as they sniff out for enemies and take them out yourself. I racked up about 8 kills by following one of my team's dog and "stole their kills" ;). I found an enemy sniper hiding away in a hut on the far end of the map using this method.
There is a way to get away from the dogs if you cannot escape or kill them and that is by jumping into the water. they can't get there.
One of the map I played on was a night Japanese camp ground with water and wooden walkways all around. You can hide out in the water and the plants, combined with the darkness, you will be practically invisible. Also if you happen to stand underneath a wooden walkway, feel free to shoot from underneath if someone is above you. :)
The tanks are great and easy to handle. With a good team, you can own the whole map with the tank and not die at all or at least not lose the tank too quickly. the tank can be easily beaten with a good anti tank set up class.
Oh and it is indeed Kiefer Sutherland's voice in the American team's voice command. Awesome. i just can't help but picture Jack Bauer screaming instead of a US military officer.:D
The only two issues I have with the game are the sniper rifles and the bazooka. The sniper rifles are practically useless at first because you do not start off with a scope attachtment, which is stupid because you cannot get a decent shot without one.
The bazooka design are all the same for all the national teams. The Germans should be using a pazershreck, not an american bazooka. Same goes to the Russian and the Japanese.
So anyway, those are my issues, but they don't take away the funs from the game. You will see it's silly for a japanese soldier to be holding an MP40 sub machine gun or a russian gun, but in the end, it's just a game and the funs are not taken away or effected by these issues.
Tonight I had a great game with a 32 kill, 4 death. I started out with an MP40 sight attachment on the japanese side. I got off a good start with 10 kills, but I was shot down and fell into a last stand. I was healed by a team mate after an intense firefight was over in the area I was shot down. I got right back up and started to kick some more asses until I ran out of ammos, I grabbed whatever guns I could find on the floor and I did. A 20 streak kills until I was dead. The rest of the game just got chaotic as I gunned down whoever stood in front of my sight and my dogs mauling everyone down.
Oh yes and the artillery strikes? Commanding a strike works just like airstrike. Now the artillery are not accurate, you would get maybe 1-3 kills if you ordered a strike three separate occasions. That's ok though because they are not suppose to be accurate and their real job is to shake up the enemies , forcing them to hole up somewhere for safety. The artillery strikes last much longer than the airstrike did. I think it went on for 30 seconds or more. Remember in COD 2 as the American in single player, when you took over a german bunker at the top of a steep hill and the german counter attacked you by hitting your position with artillery? That's how intense the strikes are in multiplayer. It is so bad that it will do its' job to **** up you concentrations and shake you up real bad, forcing you to stay in one place for too long.

I got around to using a bayonet. Dear god this game gets awesome by the minutes. I love sneaking up on unsuspecting enemies and bayonetting them or waiting around a corner, listening for footsteps to get ready to bayonet someone running in front of me, with no chance for them to react. The bayonet is now the best weapon I have used so far in the demo. November can't come soon enough.

I've managed to unlock the 50 round drum clip and aperture for the Thompson. It kind sucks you can't have both attached at the same time, but they both rock separately too. Also managed to unlock the bi-pod for the BAR, but I have no idea how to "deploy" it. I've laid prone, but nothing happens with it. I'll have to check the istructions I guess. Still trying to get used to the scope on the Springfield, non-camping sniping has gotten so hard since COD2.
The whole system still kind of pisses me off sometimes. If I shoot you in the chest at close range with a BAR 3 times, you're dead. I don't care if you have Juggernaught on or what, you're dead. And in some 1 on 1 shootouts the outcome often seems to be pretty random. If we both have BARs, and I shoot you 3 times in the chest, and you end up shooting me 3 times in the chest, why is it that I died? Neither of us got a headshot, so its a random decision who lives, and that gets REALLY annoying after a while.

2) I agree. It's bullcrap when I am using the springfield with stopping power and bullet penetration and it takes three or more shots to kill someone. Yet if I have the scope attachment, they'll drop in one shot. the BAR is the worse weapon so far for me, they are inaccurate and sway all over the place and they do not do enough damage. That why I like the other machine gun with the ammo clip on the top. Which is why it is important to let Treyware about this issue before the game ships out. If all else fails, that's what hardcore mode is for. :)

Since it's the company that put out COD3...I'm curious because I hated that game. Yet COD4 (from another maker) rocked.

The control set up is EXACTLY like COD 4. The class set up are also exactly like COD 4, along with new perks or some changes to the old perks. This is pretty much an improved COD 4 with World war 2 in it.

Oh, okay great. Thanks man. I tried everything and just could not get it to work.
2) Yeah, there's just no justification for it. A Springfield would take you down pretty hard, scope or no scope. My favorite instance is being killed in 2 shots by a Thompson, while hitting him with 3-4 shots in the chest from my Thompson, and then looking at the replay from his perspective and seeing that he's shooting at my legs. Thats just bull****, I don't care what anyone says.
And yeah, the BAR is pretty inaccurate, but in some of the close-quarters maps, especially the one with the water under the structures (forget the name) its really useful. Especially shooting up through floors at camping snipers and stuff like that. Its powerful, so a few hits SHOULD take most anyone down.
When's the actual release date?

Be aware of a glitch exploitation on the night japanese map, Makin. On the far northern eastern side of the map is a small shack. A door is close and a curtain is draped over an open window. You cannot get in there normally, but you can shoot through the curtain. now the glitch is to climb up a small box next to the draped window, lay down on the box and crawl into the shack to your left. You can get in but you cannot get out unless you can kill yourself or die in some other ways. I had a whole group of enemy team all gathering up inside this shack and I was confused at first why there was clump of red dots in this shack and I couldn't figure out how to get in there until I caught one of the enemy getting in.
So be careful if some ass is trying to ruin the game this way by exploiting a flaw.

Finally unlocked the bayonet for the Springfield. I had one more kill left to get it, so I was sneaking around the level, which wasn't really a sniping level, and I found this guy who was standing on a barrel trying to snipe through a window. So walked right up next to him, basically put the end of the barrel into his side, and fired point blank. He turned a knifed me.
Point blank in the side with .30 caliber round, and he lives. Unreal.
Then I got knifed by a guy on last stand, lying on the ground. That match kinda sucked.

Sounds pretty good from what you all are saying barring from the cheap deaths. Hopefully they'll clean it up before the official release. I'm a huge COD4 online player, would you guys recommend it so far from what you've played?

It's almost exactly the same except for the weapons and a few vehicles. If you liked part 4, you'll like part 5. I still think those stupid dogs are overpowered and cheap.

I like the hounds, they are basically just like the helicopter. Once you hear they're out, it's time to take up a defensive stance.
I especially enjoy the revive feature!

Helicopters were a pain in the ass because they constantly moved around everytime you tried to get a shot at them or tried to get a shot off with RPG. Then if you are using RPG it always miss this hunk of a chopper by a hair. God forbid a pixel of your character's model peeks through a tiny hole in a building, you are automatically sniped by the copter.
As for the dogs, don't under estimate their real life abilities. They are tough and they will and can pull you down to the ground, which they are trained to do. With their canine carnivore sharp teeth, they can also go for the major arteries either in your throat or on your legs. Once those large arteries starts to bleed, you are dead for sure. How did you think wild dogs survived over time on their own? Especially Rottweilers & German Shepard, they can put the big hurt on you.

What I think should be done is that you should be able to do the mini game like in COD 4 single player, wrestling with the dog after one attacks you more than two times. If more than one dogs comes at you at the same time, then you should be dead.

At least they go away after 60 seconds. Unlike the helicopter wiping out your whole team through out the whole match because every single person on your team are too stupid to take a few potshot at the copter or because the copter constantly evades you if you dare to look at it with your own eyes before even getting the chance to move the cross hair for even a pixel length.
