I have some news. Big?:D Shocking? Sad?:( Probably not.

I finally graduated from NT in December with a major in Emergency Management and a minor in Business Foundations. I pretty much immediately started/continued to sulk around for openings in the area. The few that popped up wanted at least 2 years of experience, and wouldn't even call me in so I could practice. But a former coworker sent me a job posting that was okay with fresh-off-the-stage levels of experience. I jumped on it and after waiting like 2 months after the original closing date I had an interview. I thought I blew it, or didn't know enough to be considered, but 3 days after it they called to see if I was interested in the position. I now work for the Texas Department of Public Safety- Governor's Division of Emergency Management- State Administrative Agency as an Audit Compliance Specialist. I pretty much go around to various jurisdictions and make sure they spent grant funds as they said they were going to. While I was excited about having a job, it required that I relocate.

To Austin.

A city that wears the worst shade of orange all the time. There's even a team store full of UT clothing in the Walmart up the road from me. I'm just a tiny drop of green puttering around.

Even though I'm not in the Metroplex anymore, it's still my home, so I'm still going to help out you guys first if I can. I guess this just gives us more stores to search. I've actually lucked out at the TRU over the past few weeks, snagging a white Sheffield and a blue/red Sandberg, and a Josh Hamilton at one of the Walmarts in the area. I hunt fairly often, so if anyone needs anything let me know and I'll take a gander.

Oh, and don't count me out of the gatherings. I'm only 3 hours away, and it's a straight shot up 35.

Thanks, guys. I've been down here a few weeks now, and it's alright. Work is a bit too slow for my tastes, but my apartment is pretty nice and it's in a good area. The best thing is that the Ikea is but 10 minutes up the road!

not yet...it's still on the market(with a new realtor)...we show it a few times a week but no real solid hits yet. we're still hoping to have something in motion before baby #2 gets here (late july/early august) but that's wishful thinking at this point.

Dear Jerry,

No one is going to follow the Desperados to your new megalith stadium. No one would follow them back to the AAC, either. Clint Dolezel sucks glans at calling his own plays, has bad aim, then gets exasperated with his receivers. The DBs are supposed to have potential, but crap coaching and poor schemes don't tap into it.

**** this ****,

Bryan

Hey, are any of you going to Wizard World Con in November? I've never been to a big con of any kind (other than that small one in Richardson that kinda sucked ass) and was wanting to go with some other boardies if possible. I'm wondering if I should get a 1 day pass, 3 day regular pass, or 3 day VIP pass of some kind. Anyways, let me know if you guys or any other people you know of are going. Thanks.

depending on the guest list, i might just go on saturday. it seems that the wizard shows can only book wrasslers these days and that's too much coin to meet some wrasslers...

that's a tough call...i've always done a 3 day pass, but it seems like this con is getting progressively worse every year. they used to get big stars and big movies...sean astin one year...blade trinity panel with ryan reynolds, jennifer biel and david goyer another year...ron pearlman was there once. it's unfair for me to say since i went to SDCC last year, so our cons here seem pretty weak when you're comparing them to SDCC. if you really want to take it all in, then get the 3 day pass. saturday is going to be packed, so it's not a bad idea to hit it on friday and sunday when it's less crazy. plus, the dealers give pretty good deals on sunday.

Me and a friend are going up to Arlington this weekend and he said he heard about a place called Twin Peaks, which after a web search, appears to be akin to a Hooters restaurant.

We are driving up from the Houston area, and I see there are locations in Lewisville, Plano, and Mesquite.

We will not be in a hurry, so if we stopped at one of the locations, it'd be no big deal, even though it would be out of the way.

Where does this place stack up against Hooters? ;) Better? Worse? About the same? If it is worth a try, which location has the best looking ahh, personnel? Also, are there similar alternatives to Hooters or Twin Peaks that are not actual strip clubs?

Thanks!

Kerr's Winghouse is apparently a similar style place. There is one near The Ballpark in Arlington. Kerr's is a big advertiser on the local sports radio stations. I have never been to Kerr's or Twin Peaks so I can't speak to the quality of food or other 'amenities.'

Just got back from the Arlington TRU and they had all the UD Fottball figs and the 12" LT about 4 or 5 of them and several of the new NBA legends as well. Champs in the mall had tons of Romo's 2 or 3 were clean and about 8 dirtly SP's and a Addai Dirty the package was torn and 3 reg Moss. And it looks like KB's is comming back to Parks Mall where the Sharper Image used to be we went in but they were still putting stuff on the shelves (asked for SP's but guy said they were getting in more stuff on Friday) only Halo McFarlanes were on the shelves

Food.

1. Bone Daddy's (Grapevine and Richardson locations)
2. Twin Peaks
3. Hooters

I think Bone Daddy's has the best food out of all 3, its BBQ type stuff. Twin Peaks has decent food. I don't go to Hooter's much anymore because I'm tired of the food.

"Staff"

1. Bone Daddy's has the pretty cheerleaders of whichever highschool that is near by that they just graduated from.

2. Twin Peaks has the girls that you might not take home to mom, but lots of different variety.

3. Hooters, girls next door not all are that great depends on the night and the location.

All 3 places keep their clothes on so no worries there.

LOL, thanks boardies. My wife could care less about where me and my friends go, as long as it is not a strip club outside of bachelor parties. Besides, I'm a clean freak, so the only time I've been to one (The Clubhouse in Dallas for my best friends bachelor party) was enough for me. The girls weren't much to look at, anyway. I thought a gym membership was a requirement to work in a strip joint. Guess not at the clubhouse:rolleyes:

I'll look up the other establishments that you mentioned. Any reputable steakhouses (non Outback/Texas Roadhouse)?

Don't mind too much. My friend is picking up the hotel tab (2 nights), so I'm covering food & gas. Out of curiosity, how much $$$ are we talking about? $50-ish per person?

LOL! Your description of "doughy" is right on the money. I think the Clubhouse is owned in part by members of Pantera. I think Margaret Cho was moonlighting at the Clubhouse the night of the bachelor party:eek:

There does appear to be a $40 donation for a football, but he apparently will sign one of your items if you make the donation for the football.

Thx for the info, cassus, cowtown and never. We were gonna blow it off because we didn't have anything to get signed, but as we were out shopping we found ourselves at Ridgmar at lunchtime. We walked by the store and the line wasn't too long. Witten had been signing for awhile and was taking a break. Then we found out they had pix for sale to get signed for $5. So we hemmed and hawed for awhile and finally decided to get one, since my bride is a big Cowboys fan. We bought the ticket and she went thru the line, got it signed and I even took a photo (cell phone) of them together. He was very, very friendly with everyone, chatting with them and posing for pix. Just exactly what you hope a star player would be like with his fans. I'll post the photo below - it really sux because it's just a cell phone picture, but it's something anyway.

Thx again!

I went today and was very disappointed with T.O. We caught wind in the back of the line that he was only signing "TO81". So I got to him and put my hand out for a handshake and said, "Hey Mr. Owens. How are you doing?" With no expression, he put his limp pointer, index, and middle finger in my hand for a "shake". I than asked him if he would do me a favor and sign his full signature. He didn't even look at me when he said, "can't do it." Than I said, "Mr. Owens, I'll donate the $40 to the charity for a full signature," to which he said, again with no expression, "nah bro not today...not today." So i walked away pretty upset that T.O. was such an arse and am very glad I went with a F/S helmet instead of an authentic. He signed small enough so I can still get Romo, Witten, Barber, and the rest of the guys.

well i thought i was gonna leave work early at 2, but ended up waking up late and called in and went straight there. it arrived at about 10:45 and was about #15 in line. i had a 16 x 20 of his first touchdown as a cowboy that also had a piece of used jersey and football. its a limited edition of 81. I also bought the $40 white panel football which had a cowboys star on one panel, and super bowl champions stuff on another panel. on the white panel ball, T.O. signed TO81, but on the 16x20 i got his full signature plus 81. if you went, you DID NOT have to buy the $40 football, you were allowed one personal item for FREE. The line moved fast and T.O. seemed to be in a pissy mood.

Long time no post. Anyone having any luck finding the Target Barbers SP? The Target by my house was on the list to get them but nothing so far. There isn't even an area set up for McFarlane products?

Hope everyone is having a good new year so far. I still have a job so it's all good on this end.

We take the back roads to get to I20 now with all the construction on McCart, so I pass your place a couple of times a week. Good luck to you guys. I'm sure he'll be accepted where ever he wants to attend.

lol the prices were pretty crazy. Signs for players names that went over the lockers went for $100 each - they were doing auctions on player lockers. Cowboy flags that few over the stadium were going for $300 each. Little star shaped pieces of turf were priced at $25 and they sold out almost immediately.

They had lots of crap on sale - why someone would want a bathroom sign I don't know, but they were for sale.

We got to meet Mel Renfro, Everson Walls, Eugene Lockhart . . . Michael Downs was also there but didn't meet him. I'll put up pix later today.

That's not terrible i guess. Probably the best priced thing there.

Some of the things weren't too ridiculous. They had posters from the last game that were $5. They had these 3 foot tall football helmet halves for other teams that were $300. They looked kinda old so that was cool.

It was very cool to meet someone like Mel Renfro. Hall of Famer, Superbowl champ, Ring of Honor member, and it only cost $25 for a signed photo from him (including the photo). He was really nice - signed and personalized a photo for my wife. Everson Walls was great, just extremely nice. Eugene Lockhart was not as outgoing but was nice. Both of them were $25 for a signed photo. Michael Downs I didn't get to talk to but I think his pix were $20.

Rowdy was free - he was really funny. He busted my balls pretty good for wearing a Jaguars hat. LOL He posed for a picture with my wife and was tickling her while I was shooting the shot.

The crowds weren't bad at all. No more than a five minute wait for any autos. The DJ in the tent was crqnking the music WAY too loud.

neverfinished94
02-21-2009, 01:32 PM
were there any other Cowboys players there? Roy Williams (WR) was there yesterday. i'm not really planning on buying anything just to grab some autos. thanks for the feedback

sibelius
02-21-2009, 01:39 PM
no other cowboys were there at the time I was there. I saw a blog that said this: Former players expected to be in attendance include Mel Renfro, Eugene Lockhart, Everson Walls, Michael Downs and Drew Pearson. Current players scheduled to make an appearance include wide receiver Roy Williams and linebacker Bradie James.

This is worth going to - it's free, the crowds aren't bad. You can look at all the stuff they're selling even if you don't buy it. I asked Everson Walls and he thought he'd be back tomorrow after church. He was just really nice to chat with.

They're having a big sale there right now. You can get any of the stuff at the Cowboys trailer for 40% off (except signed stuff).

They also have that mobile Cowboys exhibit there with the five Lombardi trophies on display. I'll put up some pix in a little bit.

forgot to mention - if you go to the fest for autographs, take cash. The players don't take credit cards and there are no ATMs left at the stadium.

If you watch channel 8 news tonite you will see a news story on the event . . . both my wife and I are pictured in the story LOL. I'm the big Santa-looking guy with the camera and the Jaguars hat on backwards.

no kidding...i feel bad enough paying $43 per ticket, but i'll get enough free ones throughout the year to make up for it. the only reason i'm paying for these is that this will be sabrina's 3rd straight opening day and addy's 1st. i really want to make it a yearly tradition as long as the TAKS test doesn't screw it all up in a few years.

I wanted to extend an invitation to y'all to hear my son perform as the featured soloist with the Greater Fort Worth Community Band this Sunday, 19 April, at 3:00 PM, Texas Wesleyan University (Nicholas Martin Performance Hall).

The past few years the GFWB has featured a top HS senior. Matthew earned the honor this year. He will perform "Song & Dance" (for E Flat Alto Saxophone) by Urban F. Carvalo (b. 1939). The concert is free and open to the public.

Matthew will be attending the University of Northern Colorado on scholarship to study saxophone performance and music education in the fall. (Yes, the same kid who chased stray pucks and the prize blimp at our first DFW outing to the FW Brahmas several years ago.) Time goes by too quickly.

the game was close for a while, but once the rain picked up the frogs started playing better. they got some great kick returns which set up pretty good field position most of the night, so that helped and the defense held smu to -16 yards rushing. plus it rained from early in the 2nd quarter on.....we got soaked, but those games are kind of fun! :)

Gameday Connexion has three good signings coming up - here's what they sent in their newsletter:

Gameday Connexion would like to announce our next three upcoming in-store signings! We have scheduled autograph signings for each of the remaining Dallas Cowboys home games. They will all be held at our Grapevine Mills Mall location.

Saturday, November 21st - 2 p.m.
DON PERKINS - Ring of Honor Member
$25 Any Item
This is an extremely rare appearance in the DFW area for Mr. Perkins. Don was the second player ever inducted into the prestigious Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. He retired as the Cowboys all-time leading rusher and has only been passed by Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith.

Saturday, November 28th - 2 p.m.
RANDY WHITE - Hall of Famer
$29 Basics & $49 Premiums

Saturday, December 12th - Time T.B.D.
JASON WITTEN
$59 Basics $69 Interm. $79 Prem.

We do suggest you reserve your autographs early. We have a limited number of autograph tickets, so it may sell out! You can do this by stopping by either store or by credit card by calling us at 817.732.7777 or 972.691.1715.

I was thinking of getting a Witten figure signed. Sherri went there the last time Witten was signing and he was just about the nicest athlete I've ever met at one of these things. Tashard Choice was also very friendly.
