Yeah, so I finally got around to making one. I mean, if these other areas can have one, why can't one of the more heavily board-populated areas have one?

My goal is that this can become anything from a local flea market to a chatroom to a sightings thread to a gathering-planning thread.. Can this work? Yes, if you want it to.

So from west of Ft. Worth to east of Dallas, and all the way up here to my thriving metropolis of Denton, let's post away!

Only 1 rule, though: LEAVE YOUR POLITICS AND SHOES AT THE DOOR.

Anyways, allow me to introduce myself. My name, as I suspect you already know, is Bryan. I'm about to start my 4th year at the University of North Texas and I'm majoring in Marketing. And be warned: I'm very proud of my school and I let it show. I also work at the TRU in Lewisville, so I can chime in on sightings/SKNs and whatnot, but I'm not going to raid the back or rape cases for you. If I can't do it, I'm not doing it for others. However, if you want me to hold a video game for you when it comes in, I'll be happy to. Double standard? Maybe, but ask me if I care.

Anyways, I hope to meet more of you on here, since it seems that our numbers have blossomed recently. And with all the new faces since last fall, we really need another Gathering!

I guess I'm the first one to post on the "official" DFW thread. About myself, My name is Steven, I'm about to start my 2nd year of college at Texas A&M Commerce, and I live in Rowlett. I work at a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market (no sportpicks:(). And you can tell by my signature and my sign-on that I love Led Zeppelin and the White Stripes. That's pretty much the basics about me. Let's hear from some more DFW people!

Guess you all recognize me too. I'm the other one (besides dharrismavs) who gets out and about hitting all your stores across DFW! :D

Probably one of the older guys around here (36) and have been involved in this hobby since the SLU days - over 10 years. From the Midwest originally so my favorite teams aren't in Dallas but I still follow the local teams anyways.

bryan316, good idea to have our own thread; I was getting really jealous of the Houston thread. :p

Hey all,

I think I am the senior raking SP freak of the group. Checking in at age 44, living in Carrollton. And yes, a card carrying member of the Steve Moore fan club. I have attending four of our get togethers so far and even though Mike showed up. I still had a lot of fun. :D

Do we need to put the next person to get the party started to a vote? We are long over due.

Any one need any NFL 8's?

Current extras laying around pissing off the wife are:

Mcnair
Lewis
Green
Holt

TCU home schedule (& possible conflicts):
Sept 2 -- Northwestern (Labor Day Weekend)
Sept 11 -- SMU (The Ticket's Football All the Way)
Sept 25 -- USF (Yom Kippur)
Oct 23 -- Houston
Nov 20 -- Southern Miss
Nov 27 -- Tulane (Thanksgiving Weekend)

Perhaps the best Course of action is to pick a game; have each person be responsible for purchasinf their own ticket; and, meet up in the north end zone. I do not know when TCU's homecoming is scheduled; that might be a date to avoid.

Any suggestions on a date? As one of the "old fogies," I'll make sure my walker is in greased up, my Depends are fresh, and I'll try not to beat the group down with 'good old days' syndrom.;) :D ;)

Yes, the band I manage is playing there in late September
I've seen it, but I have not been there. My wife's office is not far from there. Is it a club, restaurant, both? When is the band playing? Would the date fit with a TCU football date?

Wow, this thing might actually work...

If the next gathering is watching the Horny Toads barely edging out some lowly Florida team, I'll have to miss that. I'll be in Waco watching the owners of 3/4 of the state's conference championships stomping the :spawnskul out of Baylor. 52-14 last year, so I'm thinking more of the same. And those 14 points were against our backups. But with a new linebacker corps, who knows how we'll be. However, our offense will once again be the dominating force in the Sun Belt.

Has anyone seen a 12" red Vick lately? I keep hitting the 3 good ones up here and haven't found a damn thing. Though I did score a Pats Bledsoe and a white Lewis last night in HC. But yeah, if you find a 12" red Vick, keep me in mind.

Oh, hit your TRUs if you want any older video games or accessories. Our green tag 50% sale is active, even if it's not signed. There are some good deals out there. I'm not real sure what figures are tagworthy, especially after there was a second email with like 250+ items that were accidentally marked down and are now not valid. I know MLB8 isn't, and neither is NHL7.:(

And yeah, Frogwife is hella hot!;)

I want to go see Sayers, tooGot home about 30 minutes ago from Texas Stadium. Perfect weather for this event--a cool August day!!! Cowtown Jr. & I went for Gale Sayers, but we also got Paul Hornung and Mel Renfro. We passed on Charles Haley and Drew Pearson. Lines weren't too bad, 300 autograph tickets per signer. Easy to get autograph tickets for Hornung and Renfro. The 300 spots in line for Sayers were taken up by about 2:30 to 3:00 (30 to 60 minutes before tickets were distributed). Pearson's and Renfro's autogrpah lines moved very slowly; they were very personable and posed for pictures when asked. Sayers was polite but very business-like, posing for pictures not an option.

Cowtown Jr. enjoyed the Locker Room tour and running around on the Texas Stadium turf.

Overall, a good event.

Bryan316
09-07-2004, 11:13 PM
So yeah, it's 9:35, we're closing, and it's now ok for employees to buy stuff. I know we have NFL9 in the back, so I run back and grab a case. Now, I know that it's "whole case or no case" and that the few that I'm not getting can certainly fit. All I want is my set, minus the Plummer. I also grabbed a Cable and Juggernaut from ML6 before I clocked in, so those were on the pegs for most of the day. So I have my 9 figures (2+6+1) in the case, as I plan to use it to store some of my extras in. The closing manager asks me how long I've had them on hold, and I go back and forth about how we've had this series on the pegs, and the rest of the case could fit and blah blah blah. So apparently we're not allowed to put out a case because we want stuff from it, because it's like it's being "sold from the dock." I'm not real sure *** that means. Then I'm told that it has to be on the pegs 24 hours before we can buy it. So I asked, "So, what, I should just order from an online dealer?" "Yeah, that would be easier." What the hell. So what, my money isn't good? Or isn't good enough? Sure, it'll sell to whoever, but you're telling me that INSTEAD OF SUPPORTING MY ****ING STORE, I SHOULD SUPPORT THE COMPETITION?!! "People comlain to Corporate, and then they call us wondering why we're selling from the dock." So yeah, **** that. If I walk in and check the pegs and see something I need, I'm grabbing it. My money sure as hell is as good as someone else's, though I know that someone that reads this will complain about me like a little *****. I didn't cherry pick 4 cases and buy all of the chase figures and short packs, nor am I buying for the sole purpose of scalping. However, each of the cases was already cut open, though no figures were missing. I thought there couldn't be open cases in the back. But whatever. I played by the rules as far as I understood them. So yeah, if any of the other managers talks to me about it, it's on.

Anyways, I'm a bit heated about that right now. I'll calm down by Thursday.

Frogman

09-08-2004, 10:15 PM
Bryan maybe you and others can help me with this. There is this 15-17 yearold kid ,has black hair and this time it was bleached on the top, that comes into my TRU right when each series comes out. Usually he times it to the day, luckily NFL 9 snuck into the metroplex. Each time he always returns figures from prior series to get store credit. Like tonight he returned a Mulder, Finley, and Pujols. Before he has returned NBA 3, and NFL 6. NFL 6 was when NFL 8 came out. Anyways, if anyone knows who this kid is or if he even reads the boards, tell him to stop. Its quite rude and only clogs the pegs, especially for me as an employee. I don't have a problem with returning stuff to stores, but return something that we don't already have 10 of like the Mulder. Plus don't do it everytime a new series comes out. Don't buy it unless you can actually pay for it.

There is one time we told him that we had NBA 6 in the back, and he waited for 3 hours for us to tell him we didn't have it really.

Anyone else getting the 12" Rice? It goes a lot faster if you have other things to work on, or other sites to browse.

And if anyone sees an ML6 Deadpool and Phoenix, think of me, ok?

Bryan which Phoenix are you looking for? Does anyone have an extra Rice they would like to trade or sell?

I've got a damaged Falcons Favre with no handwarmer that I'll t/s to someone cheap.

About 2 weeks ago I looked in the system for the Holmes/McNair 12" figures and the wearhouse in Midlothian was scheduled to get them. The other wearhouses were scheduled to get them this week. Bryan next time you are working time in OPNSKN into asgard and then the skn number for the Holmes 12" it will list it. I'm not sure why we wouldn't get them, hopefully its changed though, I'll look again the next time I'm in.

Met up with bigdom tonight to pass off the 12" Urlacher and what does he do? Straps it into his child's carseat in his truck. Only a true Sportspick collector would strap their figures into babyseat.

Nice meeting you Dom. Hopefully Bryan and I can hook up soon.

All right I checked the system this morning and here is what I found:
12" Holmes/McNair should be in the stores late October, probably around the 23rd or so.
NHL Legends should be hitting stores early November.

Sadly I have yet to find an NFL 10 SKN or UPC number. I looked for about 30 minutes this morning. So I'm not sure what the ETA is on those.

Hope that helps everyone.

And Bryan, what is the deal with your Screamin Eagles? 0-3 is just pitiful. I wonder if Baylor could get a bowl game.

Bryan316
09-26-2004, 04:42 PM
That game sucked as much *** as our team does. We have NO defense. No pass rush, no linebackers, and we play a Cover 3 that looks like a Cover 0. Our offensive line has problems against lowly teams but can run block against Colorado where we ran for 247 yards. Our QB doesn't seem to be what we need. And our coach apparently has no intention of playing to win. Our coaches have not instilled a sense of discipline with this team and show no signs of doing so. We lost 7 players to academic probation over the summer, 1 died in auto accident when his blood alcohol level was .13 and he had weed in his system, and 1 was arrested for writing hot checks. I will forever support my team, but I cannot support the coaches. Watch for us to make ESPN's Bottom 10, and rightfully so.

Sic 'em Bears.:D

Baylor in a Bowl? I don't think so; there are not many possible wins left on Baylor's schedule.

I hate how they just have to have a signature. I think today is the final delivery day, since I was heading for Waco Saturday and was in school yesterday when they tried to deliver. Finally got mine yesterday. Good thing I just left the sig slip on the door. Man, this thing is beautiful! Also grabbed a Manning Bros. 2-pack at the L'ville TRU. Now I'm wondering why I spent $20 for a whiny brat backup and custom fodder. And I had to fix Eli's facemask with a box cutter. As much as I hate to admit it, I have very "sheepish" tendencies...

Oh, what happened to mikedanger? Haven't seen him around lately.

YES!! First win of the season, and it was sweet! 19 straight conference wins! The temperature was nice, perfect for football. And we actually spread out the offense! I still feel that our D gave up more than it should, but the pass rush decided to finally show up, and that played a big part.

Bryan316
10-18-2004, 01:40 PM
I think there were a few left in the overstock. I can't get mine to look like the pics, so I'm experimenting with who else can fit. I wanted to put a white Ahman Green getting hit by Urlacher 2, but I can't get Urlacher's shoulder to look like it's hitting Green in the chest. I might just wait and put a white Roy Williams in one hole and a black Chad Johnson in the other, like Johnson's about to get jacked in the back.

Bryan316

No receipt = no video game returns. With the high rate of shrinkage in that area in general, we don't want you to steal the game then return it for store credit and get free money, so we treat everyone the same and don't do it. It may suck, but that's just the way it is.

If you're not doing anything Saturday night and want to see what it's all about. And I just had to highight a few things...

Mean Green Football Returns To Action On Saturday Night

This will be the last scheduled meeting between North Texas (2-4,2-0) and New Mexico State (2-4, 2-1), ending the Mean Green’s second-longest rivalry for the foreseeable future. The two teams will meet at Fouts Field in Denton, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT. The game will be broadcast by ESPN Regional and shown live in the Dallas/Fort Worth market on KFWD Channel 52 with Sam Smtih and Jack Lengyel calling the action. It can also be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) and KNTU (88.1 FM) in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Both North Texas and New Mexico State were idle Saturday after recording Sun Belt Conference wins Oct. 9. North Texas extended its winning streak over league opponents to 20 games with a victory at Utah State while New Mexico State defeated UL-Lafayette in Las Cruces. North Texas has not lost a conference game since Oct. 6, 2001 when it lost its first-ever Sun Belt game at UL-Monroe 19-17. New Mexico State is in its last year as a member of the Sun Belt after deciding to join the WAC beginning with the 2005 football season.

This has been one of the most highly-contested series over the years despite North Texas’ 21-9-2 all-time advantage. The last three meetings have all been decided late in the game and have all had championship and bowl berth implications. The Mean Green has won five straight games against the Aggies and has won nine straight in Denton. No current North Texas player was born yet when New Mexico State last won in Denton in 1972.

I keep checking the SuperTarget's around here, and nothing. I'm not sure where this Stocking Stuffer aisle is, as the only one with anything remotely related to toys is the aisle with the cheap ornaments and such. Maybe there's an aisle in Toys with this stuff on it. Or maybe I'm crazy.
