I saw toywiz.com have this concept art up for the marine fig in the halo line.

Now, if I remember correctly, someone was asking about why the ODST trooper was significantly smaller than the spartans. one response was that the spartans are bigger than humans.

ah, here we go

im assuming this will be the same case?

It's true, in the opening scene of Halo 3, the Chief stands about 2 feet taller than the average marine.

Where it's just him or ALL spartans is beyond me.

Since the multiplayer figures are bigger too, I'm thinking it's all Spartans. Although, since they are human, they should be different heights somewhat. But I was told that because of their genetic enhancments they are taller and bulier, and their armor also adds a little to it as well.

Odds are the Marines are gonna be the same size as the ODST. I hope they make a couple different faces too, kinda how the paint scheme is different on most Brute Stalker heads.

Ever noticed that the Cyan ODST is also one of the tallest ones now. Line him up and see.

In the books, etc... The Master Chief is 7' tall in full armor. The Spartans did vary in size but were all larger/better than normal humans.

Therefore, the ODST is in scale appropriately with the Master Chief/Spartans, so expect to see the human soldiers to be about the same size as the ODST. ;)

Well seeing as Spartan James isnt here to be your Halopedia, the Spartans ar bigger due to genetic enhancements. First there were 72 I think, children in the Spartan II program all age 8 or so, only 30 or so survived the augmentation process, which included various treatments to upgrade the human body. Growth hormones, bone grafts which had some metal added to the bone structure to strengthen bones ala wolverine, also drugs used to inhance reaction time. The MJOLNIR armor is a powered suit that if worn by a normal human can kill them due to the raw power of the suit, as movement is sped up through a neural link in the brain to the suit. Basically the suit moves before you move based on thought. In the book when a scientist had the suit on to test its movement he moved his arm and it shattered his arm because it moved so fast. Anyway, to answer your question yes spartans are all bigger, think of Vinnie Jones (Juggernaut in X-Men 3) next to a normal sized person. And ODST's which there are two versions of, the regular seen in campaign is a marine odst, while the spartan is the same type of soldier only a spartan armor that wasn't used except in testing. So the marine figure may be a hair smaller than the regular ODST, thats the one from campaign.

Hope that helps.

That's just some old Halo 3 concept art for the Marines in the game, nothing to do with the figure.
And yeah, you don't need to read the block of text up above, just play the game and you can pretty clearly see that Spartans tower over normal humans. How else would they be able to fight those nasty 9 foot tall apes?

glad my photo is getting some use

Master Chief is only in the 6'10" but in armor he's 7 foot tall. Arby could be a smidge bigger as a figure. The other SPARTAN-II's did have some height variance but are supposedly all giants like Chief ;)

Regular Marines, in helmet should be exactly as tall as the ODST

so the final product will look a lot different? i looked around and that seems to be the standard UNSC marine uniform

Spartan soldiers are all taller than your average person, because of the armor, and the genetic engineering. The marine will have to stand the same hieght as the ODST, because the ODST soldiers havn't been through any sort of genetic enhancements, nor do they have MJOLNR armor.

I wonder if there'll be marine variants or if they'll all look exactly the same?

That is a great question. I really hope they have Marines of all races so it'll be easier for army building.

If my memory serves me right, didn't the Marines in the first Halo CE look alot like the Marines from the Aliens franchise? At least I thought anyway. And didn't they later get a mask like the ODST in Halo3, or something like that?

Maybe you're thinking of the hornet pilots?

The H3 marines look pretty much like that concept art:

edit: I found a pic of a pilot.

No, in halo 3 the Marine pilots had a mask. But, the normal ones just had the standard helmets.

EDIT: Woops, sanghelli beat me

I'm not saying you're wrong. But why, is MC, Spartan 117, if there weren't even 100 Spartans? I thought there was something like 170 Spartans in the program, not 70 something. Just curious. Why go higher then 72 for numbers if there weren't that many to begin with?

Trunks3540
10-23-2008, 06:07 PM
Oh yea, and I want them to make Michelle Rodriguez as a Marine. She was in the game. Doubt me? Check the voice actors in the back of the Halo 2 book. ;)

God I love those Hornets....

McFarlane is really missing out on a lot of revenue by not making vehicles.

In a way, you're both right. There was 150 candidates, but they only used half of them because the program was reduced due to budget issues.

That makes alot more sense to me.

BTW, anyone know the numbers of the Hellspartans? I don't remember if they were on the backcards or not. Just curious.

It was on the back cards. Can't remember how many though. I want to say 7 for some reason, but that might just be because Bungie loves that number...

only 2 survived

Trunks3540
10-23-2008, 06:43 PM
I thought it was 5 picked, 2 survived. But I meant their designation number. MC is 117. I wondered if they ever said what the Hellspartans were.

*update* Yea the backcard says 5 trained, only 2 survived but there was no designation number.

SteelSpartan

I just hope the Marines don't come with a separate scale of weapons and that they have articulation similar to the Spartans. With the Mongoose and possibly other vehicles coming out, I'd like my Marines and ODST's (probably needs a revision) to be able to come along for the ride.

Trunks3540
10-23-2008, 06:51 PM
The weapons will be Human scaled. 99% sure of that. Odds are the articulation will be the same as the ODST, but hopefully it is better. And if the Spartans can fit in a vehicle, then the humans definintly can. The ODSTs can sit down, so the Marines should be able to as well.

Sanghelli
10-23-2008, 06:56 PM
I can deal with the ODST type articulation. At least that way they'll be in scale. My main worry is that they'll try to change it and mess something up..

They aren't part of Halo lore if that was the reason you were looking for a designation number. They're just McFarlane's creation. Just like how Jin makes up his backstory for his Halo customs.

Trunks3540
10-23-2008, 07:01 PM
I don't like the ODST arms. They don't hold the BRs well enough for battle poses, at least the 2 I have don't. They need to lengthen the arms or change the elbow joints just slightly. And neither of them hold the Human Shotgun well.

FOR NOW!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Seriously though, they might make them part of it, like how GL lets all the EU stuff be part of the SW Universe and calls it canon. I'd like that for the Hellspartans.

But that is a good reason lol.

I heard off some webstie *whos name escapes me* that McF is making a odst #2 in november,it was listed as
"odst captain, 13 points of articulation"
so i am taking IF IT'S TRUE that means it going to have red shoulders and better arcticulation.??

there's a swivel joint on the crotch which are the hips and another at the top of the thigh armor. the hips/crotch allow for front to back motion and is hindered by the armor, the thigh armor rotates 360 degrees
