Just wondering because I am. I only have one credit card, but I do owe a good amount on it. It is mostly from buying toys and video games. Anyway I don't know if this has been asked before.

Nope, I only buy things that I can afford to. I treat it as a hobby, not a compulsion.

I buy all of my "unnecessary" hobbies(toys, video games, etc.) straight cash. IMO credit cards are to be used only for emergencies or for food.

It kind of hard for me as I am quite obsessed. I need to get my buying under control before I max out my credit card. I buy online mostly so it is kind of hard to pay cash when using paypal. I use mainly debit and credit as a form of payment.

If I want something and can't afford it, then I save up for it and earn it. A little money put back every week adds up in time.

I can afford some of it, but I just overdo it sometimes. I end up buying more than I can afford. I always make my credit card payments so I can afford it to some degree.

It would've just came straight off your debit card same as cash in hand. Credit cards are nothing but trouble in my book.

Yeah I agree that credit cards are evil. I do use my debit card as well as my credit card to buy stuff. Let's say I buy a video game for $60 I can afford to pay for that with my credit card. It is just I end up buying much more than I can afford.

How much less? Maybe if you wait two months to buy a game not two weeks. Usually the newest games out are between $50 and $60 with shipping. They are even more in stores.

I'm in debt because of car payments, mortgage, wife, kids etc. I was collecting most of the series pretty heavly but made a decision to just collect Steelers figs, and the others I have are put away. I don't really even remember what's down there. A lot of Alien and Predator, some later Spawn series, some CC exclusives...aw hell I should just sale em. Oh, and how's the quality of the current series nowadays? The SP's are pretty crappy, especially the NFL wave 2 that just came out. Just check out the sports forum and you'll see a lot of people complaining about them.

If you are in debt due to your hobby, you should consider finding a new one which doesn't involve spending money;) I'm sorry, but it's just a lack of responsibility and priorities on behalf of anybody who is debt over their uncontrollable behavior.

That doesn't factor in the times you want an exclusive or something that is only available online, and the site only accepts credit cards.....

Cases like that, having the cash in hand doesn't do you a damn bit of good. ;)

You're the guy that posted the topics about his mom whining about you buying toys, right? No offense or anything, but if you're actually in debt because of this hobby I'll side with her...

Anyway, I know how much my bills are each month, so I'll make sure I have that amount on my account, plus an additional €100 just in case. Plus I have a second account with some spare money, that I never really touch. So no, I'm not in debt, and even if I were it certainly wouldn't be because of this hobby.

No way will I allow this hobby to put me in debt. I do use a credit card to pay for a lot of stuff, but that is only because of the convenience of it. Plus, I get a certain percentage back in rewards and all that fun stuff. But I still make sure I have enough money in the bank to mirror the credit card so the whole balance gets paid off every month. There is no way I will ever pay any interest to a credit card company.

I am not in debt because I don't own a credit card but a debit card. I am broke and I have no job at the moment, but I do have some cash in the bank. I live with my parents and I learned to prioritized myself by not using money at all. I have just enough money to buy all the toys I want, but I won't do it. Know why? Because I really don't have a lot of money and I need it for importance situations. I don't want to look bad by being a 22 years irresponsible child and I don't want to be a leech to my parents either. It's bad enough that I am living under their roof and eating their foods, and so by not having a job, I make it up for being a part time college student and helping my parents around the house and being a gentleman to them, listening to them and following their rules.

What make you think I want to be a 30 something years old guy with my mother onto me all the time, nagging me while I put myself into debt? I want to be out by the time I am 30 and I don't expect myself to leech on them. And if I still happen to be living with them in the next ten years and I do hold a job, I damn well better make sure I won't throw all my money away on toys and games and instead use my money to contribute to the house.

No I don't have a credit card so i can't really go in debt. I'm also putting myself through school right now (at 19) so I have to bust my ass during the summer to even have spending money at all during the winter. Am I still buying toys? Yes, because I have enough money to buy food first. Food, then toys. That's how I roll

When money started to get tight, I stopped buying crap because basically thats what toys are. Just more useless crap. I've even cut way back on comic books and only spend about 10 bucks a week at the most on them.

So even though times are lean right now I'm not in debt at all. Graduationg in 3 semesters and then I should have plenty of money again... so it's just a temporary setback.

Partially on my part.Having a credit card bill does not show a sign of irresponsibility like many people make it out to be, if used responsibly it just extends your purchasing power. If i see a good deal for a hard to find or grail piece I take advantage of it.

A majority of my bills aren't just from the hobby though, and the portion that is wasn't spent on 37 different Halo variants. The hobby is more than just the toys themselves, for me it goes into furniture for displaying and my big trip to SDCC every year (which probably makes up a bulk of the hobby's spending when you take into consideration all the non-toy purchasing i.e. food, gas, hotel, parking and let alone adding in the potential income you may be loosing by taking time off from work).

So a little debt doesn't bother me, Im young , working, getting an education and am helping pay a mortgage, I dont mind spoiling myself a little.
