Documentaries are by far my favorite movies, but I was just wondering if anyone can recommend some.
I've seen
Fahrenheit 9/11
Bowling for Columbine
Supersize Me
Baghdad High
and others that I cant recall as of right now.
I've heard "My kid can paint that" is good, I'll have to check that out.
So can anyone recommend some other good ones?

I don't watch many, but I won a contest for the book and the DVD a while back of Ewan MacGregor's "Long Way Round". He and Charley Boorman ride motorcycles around the world. Pretty good.
And I watched some horribly depressing HBO doc that followed two junkie couples around the streets of NYC. Scummy, sad, sick and corrupted people. Interesting, but I felt greasy and ill afterwards.

Docu-fiction? A documentary is by definition a film "emphasizing or expressing things as perceived without distortion of personal feelings, insertion of fictional matter, or interpretation" Michael Moore's films tend to be sensationalized. While he gets most of it right, he has a lot of innaccuracies and misrepresentations thrown into the mix as well. I've always felt that he's just out to cause controversy and gain attention for himself rather than actually bring real issues to the public's attention.

How can you be biased about the columbine shooting?
sometimes its the factors depicted that are misleading. for example, moore liked to show viewers you could just "go in" and buy a rifle. When a documentary called "Michael Moore Hates America", showed that moore actually manipulated that scene to have him just walk out with the gun. it really doesnt work like that.
and he also HEAVILY manipulated heston's speech, since it had nothing to do with columbine
EDIT: Scratch that, it was the free gun with bank account.
Free gun for opening a bank account
In March 2003, John Fund reported in a Wall Street Journal diary page that the bank employee who handled Moore's account, Jan Jacobson, said that Moore had arranged the transaction weeks in advance, and that customers have "a week to 10 days waiting period" before collecting their guns.[8]
Moore later responded to these criticisms, writing, "Nothing was done out of the ordinary other than to phone ahead and ask permission to let me bring a camera in to film me opening up my account." He also states that the background check took less than ten minutes and he was handed the rifle five minutes later. Moore posted a compilation of outtakes from the documentary to support his version of events. This video shows Jacobson explaining the process to Moore, including that the rifles are held in the bank's vault.[9] The footage in which an employee states that the guns are stored in the bank's vault appears in televised broadcasts of the film.

You can be biased about the NRA and gun control. For instance, in his Bowling for Columbine film he showed events out of sequence and out of context to meet his agenda.

just be sure to not swallow it up like propaganda. Because that is what it essentially is, I wouldnt call it a documentary. its claims on religion are blatantly false, all you need to do is do some quick google searches yourself to prove it wrong.
but it has a nice look and overall hypnotic presentation, so natuarlly people will believe it.

Most film critics and real doc filmmakers call Moore's "docs" mocumentaries because of his gross stretching of the truth, use of timelines proven to be false, splicing together different events to make them appear to be happening at the same time, etc.
my list:
The Devil and Daniel Johnston(best doc I've ever seen)
The King of Kong(about beating the high score on donkey kong)
The High Coat of Low Prices(more reason to hate wal-mart)

I was watching a show on conspiracy theories about 9/11 yesterday and it interviewed the guys who made "Loose Change," the popular doc/propaganda against 9/11. And I think it's funny that people still believe what those guys put in their movies even though they themselves say they are currently making a third version of the film because they need to take out their theories that have already been debunked.

"The Fog of War" is a pretty brilliant film about Robert McNamarara by Errol Morris, with an original score by Philip Glass. Well worth watching more than once.
"In the Realms of the Unreal" is a great documentary by Jessica Yu about the life and art of Henry Darger. You'll never look at a janitor the same way again.

Let's see, as a Christian since I was a kid, Jesus Camp scared the living **** out of me. Also check out "Hell House"
Bowling for Columbine is BS. Moore is an idiot and a liar (he didn't used to be) and it's totally offensive to tie the NRA to the KKK when one reason the NRA was founded in order to arm freed slaves to fight the KKK.
I saw enough of the Walmart documentary on Penn & Teller's BS when they shredded it.
If you're at all interested in WWII check out Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State. Disturbing and very informative.
I've been watching a lot more documentaries since I started streaming Netflix.

Also, is anyone has ever seen Blue Vinyl, it is total BS! It was filmed mostly where I live and the woman did not have her **** straight. Calling Lake Charles nothing but a trailer trash pollution plant. What a ***** *****. And when she was asked questions in interviews, she would play narrations over all of her answers cause she had no clue what she was talking about. She mostly used studies done 30-40 years ago to base her "modern facts." It's people like her and Michael Moore that need to rethink their careers.
