Quick question for those who know.....I am trying to install a ceiling fan and want to make sure I am doing this right. The room is already pre-wired for a ceiling fan. There are four wires that run down from the ceiling, a black, red, white and a bare wire (ground). There is also a bare wire that is attached to the metal mounting bracket with a screw, so I assume this is another ground. So do I need to connect both of the bare wires to the ground wire on the ceiling fan? Or do I just pick one of the grounds from the ceiling to connect to the ground on the fan? (As you can tell, I am an amature)

So I just went to put them all together and realized there are 4 grounds. one on the fan motor, one on the mounting plate, one with the wires coming from the ceiling and one screwed to the mount in the ceiling. Just connect them all together?

One for light, one for fan -- usually white is hot.

I mean just for the grounds. Do I just hook all grounds together?

Yes, the grounds should all be spliced together. With one grounding the electrical box.

Then the Red/Black are your hots, one for the ceiling fan and one likely for a light with the fan. then the white is your neutral.
