If you were a big Caps fan and were especially fond of Sergei Fedorov, one thing you might have done to celebrate his becoming the NHL's all-time leading Russian goal scorer would be to pump your fist. Possibly you could have stood up off your coach and raised your arms in the air. Maybe you might have downed a sip or two or red Gatorade to mark the occasion.
Another option would be to send 475 red carnations to Fedorov, one for each of Fedorov's goals, care of the Caps. Because that wouldn't be weird at all. The floral excess arrived yesterday, in all its rocking-the-red glory, although Fedorov went out and got hurt (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/2008/11/fedorov_hurt_too.html) that night. Maybe next time roses would be better. I'm told that Fedorov was very appreciative of the gesture, if a bit taken aback. And since it's hard for one man to handle 475 flowers at once, he gave many of them to the team's office staff. So everybody wins. Except the Hurricanes.

What a nice gesture. I've always been a fan of Sergei myself, it's been hard watching him be misused by the Ducks/Jackets....

Yes, he has been an absolute treat to watch here in DC. I'm glad we are at least going to see him for a year and a couple of monthes play here. He played his whole career in the Western Conference prior to DC, mostly before NHL was readidly available on TV so I did not see him that much. I can only imagine how good he was in Detroit, winning all the Cups and awards on a star studded team. I and a lot of people are giving a lot of credit to Sergie for the development and maturation of Semin. It started as soon as we got Fedorov. I think any casusal fan outside of DC can see the new Semin. Very few dump stick infraction penatlities now, playing resposnsibly in the defensive zone, bringing his "A" game almost every night instead of one in three, playing the penality kill now for the first time. I can go on, but basically a different player sense Feds arrived. I'd put Semins skill leavel up against any of his peers but his maturity stopped him from reaching his full potential.Feds took care of that.
