View Full Version : Question about pre-ordering...

So maybe I'm stupid or something, but are these pre-orders set up so you have to both pre-prder and then order?
If this is the case, what the heck is the point of even pre-ordering? Every other pre-order I've ever heard of simply requires one order--the pre-order.
If this is indeed the case, then, even though I pre-ordered the first Spawn resin statue, I missed it because I didn't order it--again?...so I'm screwed I guess. This seems stupid.

are you asking about the spawn statue order?

Basically, yes.

well, TMP is doing a version of what Sideshow already does. They gauge the demand by the number of preorders and produce, most-likely, slightly more. The only difference I see is that TMP doesn't really hold you accountable to purchase. They give you a window to purchase if you showed intention to buy and you can buy it then. If you don't they'll sell it to the general public.
It seems a little odd, but I sort of dig it.

Oh, well that seems stupid. I pre-ordered with every intention to buy--just like I do with Sideshow, but Sideshow sends me my pre-orders when I place a one-time order--imagine that.
Why would I not want the same from TMP? Guess I'll be paying scalper prices and my pre-order was a waste of time.

Which makes sense, but they already announced the production numbers.... so are they likely to change the #'s based on demand, or lack of ? or are they just curious to see how many folks liked it ( ego rub ) ?

Did McF send you an email saying "you pre-ordered.. come on over & order it for real now" ? or are we suposed to keep track, and try to be home the day it goes live and hope the server doesn't crash on us?

Exactly. So my pre-order, which was apparently useless, went to some person who didn't pre-order. Why do they even bother with a pre-order "service"? If I had understood that pre-ordering didn't mean a darn thing, I wouldn't have done it and I would have been more vigilant about the release date because I wouldn't have been under the assumption that my statue was already secured and I would not be in the predicament in which I've currently found myself.
Not happy .

I think that's exactly what we're supposed to do, unless I'm missing something. This is the first exclusive I've missed and, ironically, the first one I've not worried about due to my so-called pre-order.

Which sucks, since I likely won't be anywhere near a computer when it does go up... so I likely won't get it after all.
Well.... I won't be buying one second hand that's for sure... if it's sold out when I get home then screw it.
Really makes you wonder if Todds been replaced by a Skrull... :(
I much prefer the websites where I pre-order 3, 4, 5 months in advance, then when it shows up there, they bill my card and send it to me... no hassle at all.

That's how they seem to be doing things.

You should.
Since you guys didn't preorder the Active Cammo EVAs, here's how the preorders seem to work. You preorder the figure from your collecter club username w/e thing, and then when they become available, instead of sending it to you outright, they email you and let you know that they're in stock, and you have a limited amount of time to purchase yours from the website. For the EVA it was 30 days. You can only buy them if you preorderd them though, so yours is technically secure, until the cut off date. At which time, they make them available to the general public to buy the rest. If you try to buy it without preordering it, they won't let you check out, and you'll get some kind of messege to the effect of "there are items in your cart you did not preorder, you must remove these before checking out".
I think they make it so the people who changed their name can choose not to buy them if they don't want to. I think it's kinda dumb too, cause you could just cancel the preorder, but maybe they think people have bad memories or something. I don't know why it's like that, just that's how it went for the EVA and I'm assuming they're gonna do it for the other preorders as well. They sent me an email a week before the EVA was available to buy.

That makes a lot more sense.
I'd still rather skip the re-order step.... people need to learn to make a decision and stick to it ... but it's not as bad as the whole "pre-order means nothing, they go live & it's a free for all" picture I got from other peoples perspectives.

Nah, that would be an easy downfall for any company. TMP isn't stupid. Well, that stupid...
It helps the people that didn't preorder it though, I think they were trying to help everyone. It leaves it for the people that didn't want it anymore don't have to buy it and then someone else who missed the preorder cut off date or didn't even know it existed can get the one said other person doesn't want anymore. That and it can also help if you don't have the funds to cover it right away you can wait a little while till later. Also you will know when the money comes out, instead of you checking your bank 4 days after they took the money out and then you be in the whole cause you expected that money to be in there and went and bought something else, or just didn't have enough in to cover it.
