With all due respect to the person who owns this message board, and runs our favorite hobby, I just think this is very funny.... Chase signatures... Wow...

http://www.spawn.com/news/mcfarlaneupdate/images/ecommheader.gif Hello from McFarlane Toys,

We just wanted to keep in touch with you and let you know that our first Spawn Resin Statue: Issue 138 is currently in production. We will have a solid ship date by the first of the year, as of now the date is tentatively set for late January/ early February. We will email you to let you know what the exact date will be. You will also receive follow up emails to remind you as we are getting closer to the actual release of the Statue.

As a little side note I wanted to let everyone know that Todd has signed the plates and he decided to do a little something with the signatures as chase items. For most of the plates he signed as T. McFarlane, but a total of 20 plates are signed as Todd McFarlane. All of the plates have been packed and sealed in closed packing envelopes and have been shipped back to the factory. All the plates will be fastened to the statue with out any specification or knowledge of the chase signatures being separated, so these are guaranteed to be completely random chase signatures. Once they are boxed in final packaging, the only way to know if you have the chase plate is to open it and see. Good luck in getting a chase signature and please feel free to let us know here at McFarlane Toys or on the message boards if you receive the chase signature.

Here is what the signatures look like.

Guys this isn't for sports figures, it's for the Spawn statue. Seeing as he is the creator of Spawn, I don't see what the problem is. I think it's pretty cool for the comic collectors.

The only difference between the two signatures is "odd" .... I know, bad joke..

I agree. If I were a Spawn collector I'd love that!

I can't believe they didn't go to the lenghts of mentioning what a Todd McFarlane signed figure goes for on ebay (like they had the nerve to list the secondary market going price of a #13 Selanne in a news story) .... oh I guess that's because no one cares

I agree- like getting Stan Lee's sig, or Jack Kirby's, on one of their characters. I'd think getting "Stan Lee" would be cooler than "S Lee."

Agreed.

But hey, it's been a while since the last time people on here had something to complain about and put in their 2-cents.

I guess this is directed towards me , since I started the thread. I am NOT complaining... I am just saying that I dont see the lure and I happen to think it funny that a T.McFarlane vs Todd McFarlane item is being sold.

I, for one, cannot wait for the M Weber and B Vance special edition NFL resin statues in 2010. :)

don't you mean
M Web and B Van as they need to save money by cutting down on signature strokes

You guys just like to complain. Anyone that collect autographs knows that a full signature is more valuable than an initialed signature. And, as others have said, since these are spawn figures, and Todd is the creator of spawn, I don't see the problem.

If you were to buy an autographed Tom Seaver baseball, would you prefer it to be signed "T. Seaver" or "Tom Seaver" ?

I have to agree. It is definitely more appropriate on a nameplate for a Spawn statue than having Todd sign clamshells of NHL figures for random insertion like they did. That to me was lame, but I don't see the problem here at all. I personally have no interest in Todd's auto, but there are plenty of people, even on this board (see the toy board or some of the old ToddCast threads) that worship him and would wet their pantaloons over it.

The difference on the actual auto to me is just like how some sports cards have auto variations, with a handful having some type of nickname or something.

But he should of at least made a small sketch of spawn, then that would have been sweet.
